NOTE: According to the book, "John Bostick of South Carolina" by A. Max Bostic, John Bostick was born in Virginia between the years 1735 and 1740. He moved from Buckingham County, Virginia to the Ninety Six District, South Carolina before 1779 as seen from the 1779 Census records. He died in South Carolina on August 6, 1796, leaving a will found in 1983 in Abbeville County which named his wife and children. Wife's name was "Jane" and children mentioned in will are: Davis, Littleberry and John Bostick Jr.

NOTE: This is whom I believe to be Zachariah W. Arnold's parents. This Wm. Arnold has two sons under the age of 10 which fits with Zachariah's known age and that of his younger brother, William Arnold Jr. This man also was a slave owner, it is known that Zachariah W. Arnold was born into a family who believed in slavery and the Gray family, whom he married into, had slaves.
The property that Wm. and Mary Arnold purchased from the Widow Wright in 1795 was given to their son Zachariah in 1799 as his birth right. This property sat on the Beaverdam Branch of the Reedy River in Laurens County on the Abbeville County line.

NOTE: According to this census, this John Arnold was born between 1755-1774 thus making him the right age to be the John Arnold who married Barbara Pettus. I believe this is that John Arnold who is said to have moved to Laurens County with his parents, William Arnold and Mary Davenport. They settled approximately twenty miles north on the north side of Saluda River, but by the time of John's death, they had moved to Abbeville County with John's family.

NOTE: This Zachariah Arnold was a minister and he married a woman by the name of Mary. Children of Zachariah and Mary Arnold are: William Anthony Arnold; Mary Arnold West; Rebecca Arnold Flynn and Sarah Arnold Savage. Most of the children left South Carolina about 1840 and moved to Monroe County, Mississippi where they lived out their lives.
The parents of this Zachariah Arnold are believed to be William and Mary Arnold. Siblings would be: William Jr. b. abt. 1770 m. Ann; Samuel, b. abt 1772; Reuben, b. Dec. 13, 1773 d. June 28, 1847 St. Clair County, Alabama m. Elizabeth Boskins Moore.
This Zachariah Arnold did not believe in slavery nor did his children. In every census that he or his family are on, there is never any mention of slaves. It easy to find is family on tax records and census records because they all own very little land and never claim much on their taxes. He lived a modest lifestyle, practicing what he preached.

NOTE: On the census for 1800 Laurens County, this Nancy Arnold was living alone with 3 minor children, no husband. I believe this to be the Nancy Mitchum, widow of John Arnold who was dead by 1800. It is a known fact that John and Nancy's daughter, Lucy B. Arnold married Jonathan Crook. Here we have "Jonathan Crook" as one of the heirs (acting for his wife) to the John Arnold estate. Even though she lived in Laurens County, she inherited the property in Spartanburg County after her husband's death. Here she is giving it to her children before her death.
John's brother was Absolum Arnold and he migrated to Tippah County, Mississippi with Lucy, the daughter of John and Nancy Mithcum Arnold and her husband where they are buried.
