ORRIN BALKE DIE'S AFTER OPERATION 

Orrin Balke, a farmer in the town of Herman, died this morning at 9100. He underwent a surgical operation July 3 from which he never recovered. Mr. Balke was born Aug. 14, 1886 in Dodge County, the son of Mr.  & Mrs. William Balke. He came to Shawano county when 6 months old and settled in the town of Pella. His marriage to Minnie Giese was solemnized at Pella in 1907. They lived in the town of Pella until 1 t years ago when they moved to the town of Herman. Mr. Balke was a member of the Leopolis Lutheran church. 

Survivors are his wife and 4 brothers, Alex of Shawano, Louis, Embarrass, Asa and Lawrence, town of Pella. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20 at 2:15 at the Leopolis Lutheran church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Leopolis.

JOSEPH CERVENY, LEOPOLIS PIONEER IS LAID TO REST 

Funeral services for Joseph Cerveny, who died Aug. 1 at his home in Leopolis were held Tuesday, Aug. 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Leopolis. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers were Joe Reminger, John Kazda, John Paiser, Jake Klement, George Hoffman and Joe Stodola. Mr. Cerveny was 86 years old at the time of his death.

Born in Bohemia Feb. 17, 1861 he came to this country at the age of 9 and settled on a farm at Leopolis. When a young man he was married to Pauline Wanish of Kellnersville and settled on the farm which is now the old homestead, operated by his oldest son, John. Mr. Cerveny was one of the oldest pioneer farmers, interested in church affairs, being one of the members to haul logs with oxen for the first St. Mary's church. His wife preceded him in death 16 years ago and a daughter, Anna, Mrs. Joe Stodola, died a year ago. Survivors are John, on the home farm; Edward, Minneapolis; Mrs. Mary Fara, Wausau; and Emma, Mrs. Fred W. Brown, Shawano. There are 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
