It is our sad duty to again chronicle the passing away of one of the Leopolis Pioneers, who endured the hardships and privations of that early period, a woman beloved by all, Mrs. Elizabeth Kutil, breathed her last Dec. 27. She was born in Bohemia, March 19, 1856 and was married to John Kutil in 1873, and moved to this country in July 1881 landing in Leopolis. Her husband preceded her in death about twenty-eight years ago, which threw all the responsibility of rearing a large family on her shoulders. Her son Joseph died four years ago.

There are left surviving her four sons and three daughters: Matt of Two Rivers, Gabriel of Eau Claire, Frank of Saginaw, Michigan and John of Wausau, and James who is at home. Matt the oldest is a step-son. The three daughters who reside at Leopolis are: Mrs. Albert Ashenbrenner, Mrs. Jacob Klement, and Mrs. Gabriel Kresl. The Catholic Church from where the funeral services were conducted on Dec 30th was filled with neighbors and relatives testifying there by their esteem of the deceased.

The funeral of Palmer Benson was held last Friday at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, Rev. Halvorson officiating. Those to mourn his loss are his aged parents, two brothers and two sisters, Peter of Washington D.C., Ditmar, who is now at Waco, Texas, Mrs. Bert Andahl, at home, and Mathilda at home.

LUNDS-- Messrs. Irgens, Haugen and Clarence Peterson, who are employed at Milwaukee, were here to attend the funeral of Palmer Benson.

Fred Bahrke Dies of Diphtheria

Friday evening Fred Bahrke, who lived in the first ward, died from diphtheria. He had seemed to get better, when a relapse got worse until death came.

He was twenty-seven years of age and leaves his wife and two little boys, one four years old and the other six months.

He was born near Underhill and grew up on a farm there. He went to country school there and when the war broke out, he went into the service for six months.

He married in 1918 to Miss Alma Pick who lived near Cecil in the Town of Washington. Mr. Bahrke worked for the Wolf River Paper and Fibre Company in the paper mill.

A private funeral was held Sunday afternoon, only the family and Rev. Albrecht being present. Interment was made in the Woodlawn.

His death is strikingly sad because of the two children who are left fatherless and the mother who is left a widow. The sympathy of all who know of the case goes out to the bereaved ones.
