Luecke, for her mother, Mrs. Carl Christen, Sunday afternoon at 2:00, after which all that was mortal of this grand old mother of Israel who tenderly conveyed to our Silent City, where, by the side of a devoted husband she now rests in peace. The deceased was the mother of a large and gifted family, many of whom have "silver threads among the gold" as a reminder that they, too, are nearing life's sunset. None ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine hospitality so characteristic of the people of her ancestry. Disease did not destroy the charm of a kind indulgent disposition, nor old age diminish her unselfish solicitude for her friends and loved ones. She was born in Germany Aug. 12th, 1843, her maiden name being Caroline Singbush. In 1867 she was married to Mr. Carl Christen. In 1873 they immigrated to America locating in Chicago where they resided for 2 years, then moving to Kenosha living there 5 years, they then moved to the town of Maple Grove, Shawano County, where they resided until 6 years ago, when they moved to Bonduel, where they lived very happily together until last year when Mr. Christen passed away. As the death dew gathered on her marble brow, around her bedside gathered her 'girls" and "boys"--always girls and boys to her, though now grown to mature years with boys and girls around their own fireside. The life so long interwoven with theirs, with tearful eyes they watched as it slowly but surely passed over, which occurred on Thursday, Aug. 24th. She ran the journey of her life in 73 years and 12 days. She was the mother of 7 children and five girls, all of whom are living except the oldest, who died 15 years ago. Six children mourn her loss, namely, Mrs. Mike Smith of Mattoon, Mrs. Wm.
