United Church of Christ Cemetery |
This cemetery is one of the oldest in Rockingham County. A few stones date from the mid 1700s and the names of many of the earliest settlers of the area can be found there. This work, commissioned by the church and transcribed by Sandra Huemann-Kelly, includes the entire inscription from the stones. Also, some of the stones are written in German, and she has translated those. Included is a map of the cemetery. Each listing is numbered and it corresponds to numbers on the map - so the stones can easily be located.
In order for the map to be easily read it was necessary to split it in half. Map 1 is of the older section of the cemetery and shows stones numbered 1 through 121. Map 2 shows stones 122 through 613.
