Clarence and Maggie came to Texas in 1884 from Tuscola, Illinois. They moved from Milam County to "old" Tuscola, west of present day Tuscola, in 1900. Lillian M. Branton (better known as Babe to everyone) was born on Aug 16, 1900. The second set of twins Cyrus Allen Branton and Allene Branton were born about 1902. Charley retired from farming in 1911 and moved the family to "new" Tuscola in 1911.They lived in the 200 block of Brown Street in a one story frame house. As of 2002 the house was still standing. Charley worked for the Post Office in Tuscola until his death Feb 5, 1934. He was taking the mail from the Post Office to the Santa Fe Depot in a two wheeled cart on the day he died. He is buried in the family plot in the Tuscola Cemetery. Maggie died in 1940 and is buried beside Charley in the family plot. |
