She was born in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Marcus and Hattie 
Barclay Anderson.

She is survived by one son, Dale Devor of Belpre; two daughters, 
Connie Gates of Vincent and Dorothy Russell of Hilton Head, SC; three 
stepsons, Dave Abbott, Ronald Abbott and Gordon Abbott; one 
stepdaughter, Lois Abbott Schwendeman; several grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dolpha 
Anderson of Fleming, OH; and one sister, Helen Cunningham of Barlow.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lester Devore and Leonard 
Abbott; one infant son; one stepson, Ralph Abbott; and four brothers, 
Dallas Anderson, Raymond Anderson, Carlton Anderson, and Clifton 
Anderson.

Services will be at 1pm Monday at McClure-Shafer Funeral Home, 
Marietta.  Burial will be in the Barlow Cemetery.

Ben F. Abicht, 74, of Belmont died Wednesday at his residence.

Abicht was a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II, was admiral in 
the Cherry River Navy and was a charter member of Grant-Jefferson 
Lions Club.  He was a member of St. Marys Lodge 41 AF&AM, Scottish 
Rite Bodies of Parkersburg and Wheeling, Nemesis Temple of the 
Shrine, Paden City American Legion Post 86, St Marys Elks Lodge 1701 
BPOE, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Eureka.

He as born in Newport, a son of the late Earl T. And Gertrude B. Eddy 
Abicht.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pearle DeLong Abicht; two 
daughters, Gloria Cox of St. Marys and Lou Darling of Lancaster, OH; 
one son, J.B. Abicht of Belmont; and four grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the 
family with Rev. Paul VanHorn officiating.  Burial will be in East 
Lawn Memorial Park, Reno.

Bernice Abicht, 86, former resident of Elyria, OH, died Jan. 18 in 
Heartland of Marietta.

She was born in Deucher, Washington County, a daughter of the late 
Oliver F. And Clara Tice Dixon.  She attended Ludlow Township and 
Marietta schools.  She was a member of the Muskingum Valley Baptist 
Church and had been a member of the Daughters of America for more 
than 50 years.  After moving to Elyria she managed the Koplin Drug 
Store.  She was a resident of Heartland for the past 10 years.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Abicht of Marietta; two daughter, 
Mrs. Lester (Jean) Schau of Elyria, with whom she made her home for 
five years, and Clara Montagnese of Elyria; six grandchildren; and 
eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Campbell of Lowell, 
OH, Alva Bradley of Phoenix, AZ, and Ray Sanner of Amherst, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Abicht; five 
sisters and three brothers.

Services were held Sunday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral home, 
Marietta.  Burial was in the Muskingum Valley Cemetery.

Alberta "Honey" Adams, 86, of Belmont, died Feb. 29, 1992, at St. 
Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.

She was born in Pleasants County, the daughter of the late Charles 
and Cora Owens Russell.  She was a member of the Belmont United 
Methodist Church, the Belmont Women's Club and the Rebekah Lodge, 
where she had served as Noble Grand.  She was retired from the Colin 
Anderson Center.

She is survived by one sister, Louise Ruckman of Odessa, TX; one 
sister-in-law, Mary Russell of Vienna; one niece, Debra Perry of 
Belmont; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Adams; two sisters, 
Garnet Owens and Fonda Worstell; three brothers, Charles A. Russell, 
Jr., Merle K. Russell and Owen Kenneth Russell; and one nephew.

Services will be at 1pm Tuesday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home in 
St. Marys, with the Rev. Gene Kerby officiating.  Burial will be in 
Willow Island Cemetery.

Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Ritchie County, a son of the late Charles W. And 
Frances Hendrickson Adams.  He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, 
and a member of Masonic Lodge #169 and South Parkersburg United 
Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Enid Dotson Adams; one son, 
Carman Adams of Parkersburg; one daughter, Claudia Adams of 
Parkersburg; one brother, Harman "Bob" Adams of Dallas, TX; and one 
sister, Gertrude Doak of San Angelo, TX.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Services 2pm Monday, Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, 
the Rev. Peggy Scharff officiating.  Burial Mount Olivet Cemetery 
with Masonic graveside rites.

Adams retired from American Electric Power Co. And belonged to the

She was born in St. Marys, a daughter of the later Lewis J. And Susie 
Roby Johnson.

She is survived by one daughter, Angela A. Diehl of Parkersburg; one 
son, Michael H. Adams of Parkersburg; one sister, Helen Pickens of 
Belmont; two brothers, Dale B. Johnson of Belmont and Robert Johnson 
of Germany; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Harvey Adams; and two 
brothers, Ralph Johnson and Virgil Johnson.

The funeral will be at 1pm Wednesday at Vaughan Funeral Home, 
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Mark Wilding officiating.  Burial will be

She is survived by four daughters, Freda Riser of Waverly, Mary Hart 
of Parkersburg, Ida Bailey of Ellenboro, and Sylvia Bennett of 
Wellsburg, WV; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Adams; a son, Ernest 
Adams, eight brothers; a sister; two grandchildren; and a great-
grandchild.

The funeral will be 1pm Saturday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home with 
the Rev. Laird Webb officiating.  Burial will be in Willow Island

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Iola) Brammer of 
Parkersburg, Mrs. Eula (Fern) Carse of Friendly and Mrs. 
Ronald(Marilyn) Brown of Eaton, OH; two sons, Orie Adams, Jr. And Joe 
Adams, both of Weirton; two brothers, Emmett Mott and Virgil Mott, 
both of Weirton; one sister, Mrs. Lester (Ethel) Dearth of Friendly; 
13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orie, and one son, Gerald 
Adams.

Services were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Eckles Funeral Home in 
Sistersville, with the Rev. Frank Lambert officiating.  Burial was in 
the Adams Cemetery in Pleasants County.

Administration Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born in St. Marys, a son of the late Austin and Maria Bailey 
Adams.  He was a salesman, a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a 
former member of the St. Marys Athletic Boosters.

He is survived by his wife, Bette Adams; three sons, including twin 
sons Rick of Belmont and Mike of St. Marys, and Ted Adams of 
Charleston; a daughter, Janie, at home; a brother, Don Adams of 
Belmont; two sisters, Mable Wagner of St. Clairsville, OH, and Mary 
Sayre of Gallipolis, OH, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

The funeral was held at 11am Wednesday at the Ruttencutter Funeral 
Home in St. Marys, with William Renner officiating.  Burial was in 
the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery.

She is survived by two sisters, Lulu Smith and Margaret Taylor, both 
of Newport; a nephew and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Adams; two brothers; 
and a sister.

Services were held Saturday at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with

Herbert C. Adams, 80, of Ravenswood, former editor of "The 
Parkersburg News," died last Wednesday at the Jackson General 
Hospital, Ripley, following an extended illness.

Adams was editor of "The News" in the 1930's and also had worked on 
newspapers in Wheeling and Morgantown and retired from "The Jackson 
Herald," Ripley.

He was born at Eureka, a son of the late Lewis H. and Mary J. 
Congleton Adams.  He attended the First Presbyterian Church at Ripley 
and the First United Methodist Church at Ravenswood.

Surviving are a son, Ronald Adams of Ravenswood; a daughter, Nancy 
White of Deerfield Beach, FL., and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Adams in 1978.

Services were held Saturday at the Straight-Tucker Funeral Home in 
Ravenswood with Dr. James Cushman officiating.  Burial was in the 
Ravenswood Cemetery.

Marietta Metal Products.  He was a member of the Apostolic Faith 
Church in St. Marys and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Lucille Turner Adams; four sons, 
G.S. Adams of Raven Rock, Lloyd Adams Jr. Of Newport, OH, James R. 
Adams of Shawnee and Denver C. Adams of Belmont; seven daughters, 
Sharon June Winland of Belmont, Doreen Lee Freeman of Okeechobee, FL, 
Judith Lynn Adams of Belmont, Mada Jean Adams of St. Marys, Crystal 
Dawn Barnes of Belmont, Rebecca Louise Adams of St. Marys and

following an extended illness.

Adams had served in the U.S. Air Force.  He had been employed in the 
trucking industry and was a member of the Teamster's Union and the 
Belmont Baptist Church.

He was born in St. Marys, a son of the late Fred E. And Dorothy 
Shingleton Adams Bills.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Westbrook Adams; two daughters, 
Julie Adams of Long Beach CA; two stepchildren, Deanna Westbrook and 
Jason Westbrook, both of the home; five brothers, Mike Adams and Rick 
Adams, both of Belmont and Mike Bills, Roger Bills and Steve Bills, 
all of St. Marys; four sisters, Sally Wright of Eureka, Linda Fiore 
of Veto Lake, Cheryl Satterfield of Arville and Janie Wise of St. 
Marys; and his stepmother, Betty Adams of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Max.

Graveside services will be held 11:00am Thursday at IOOF Cemetery, 
St. Marys, with the Rev. Brian Weber officiating.

Tessie Mae Adams, 84, a resident of Ashland, OH,  for the past 38 
years, died Friday morning in Ashland Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 26, 1905, in Ritchie County, WV, to Daniel Webster 
nd Shellie Morrison Satterfield.  

She was a former owner/operator of a restaurant in St. Marys, WV, and 
a former cook in several private homes in Ashland and West Virginia.

Surviving are three daughters, Sylvia Hickman, Betty Kane and Dorothy 
Tovey, all of Ashland; a son, Fred of Oneca, FL; seven grandchildren; 
two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Bostic of Charleston, 
WV,  and Aletha Satterfield of Pennsboro, WV; and four brothers, 
Lawrence Satterfield of Ashland, Orval Satterfield of Cairo, WV, 
Sterling Satterfield of St. Marys, WV, and Don Satterfield of Canton.

She was preceded in death in 1940 by her husband, Arthur Edgar Sr., 
whom she married in 1924; and two sons, Orval Gayle and Arthur Edgar 
Jr.

Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Martinsville.

She is survived by one son, Jerome Adamson of Norfolk, VA; one 
daughter, Mary Frances Lowe of Wilmington, DE; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. "Jerry" Adamson, 
in 1967; and two sisters.

Services were held 11am Monday at First United Methodist Church, New 
Martinsville, with the Rev. Samuel Moore and the Rev. Fletcher Lowe 
officiating.  Burial was in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.

Marietta Memorial Hospital Saturday of congenital heart failure.

He was born in Marietta, a son of Richard and Virginia Flagg 
Addlesburger.  He was in the fourth grade at Washington Elementary 
School.

He is survived by his father, Richard Addlesburger of New Matamoras; 
his mother, Virginia Addlesburger of Marietta; two sisters, Melinda 
and Michelle Lemley, both of Marietta; three brothers, Richard Jr., 
Bruce, and Shane Addlesburger, all of New Matamoras; his paternal 
grandmother, Lucille Addlesburger of New Matamoras; his maternal 
grandfather, John Flagg, Sr. Of Lithia, FL; his maternal grandmother, 
Pauline Flagg of Marietta; and several aunts and uncles.

Services were held Monday at the Hadley Funeral Home, Marietta, with 
burial in the Valley Cemetery.

Run Community and had been employed by the Interstate Pipeline Co. 
And the McGraw Co.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Farnsworth of Canton and Eugene 
Addlesburger of New Matamoras; three daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Clara) 
Williams of Parkersburg, Rose Starcher of St. Marys, and Mrs. Herman 
(Alice) Adams of New Matamoras; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-
grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; 
and three sisters, Carrie Burnside of Lower Salem, Myrtle Gilbert of 
Tuscon, AZ, and Mable McFarren of Apple Creek, OH.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Addlesburger; three great-
grandchildren; one sister, Mary Addlesburger.

Force in Tampa, FL; a stepson, Robert Adkins, and a stepdaughter, 
Margaret Stanley of St. Marys; a sister, Mary Sanders of Memphis, MO; 
and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elgin Adkins.

The funeral will be at 1pm Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in St. 
Marys.  Burial will be in Newport, OH Cemetery.

ALVIN ADKINS

Alvin Adkins, 73, life long resident of Newport, died at his home at 
9:30 Monday night, following an extended illness with complications 
incident to advanced years.  The deceased was a prominent farmer and 
highly esteemed citizen of the Newport district.

Mr. Adkins was born in Newport in the house in which he died, October 
9, 1853, the son of the late Issac K. And Sarah Jane Adkins.  He was 
a member of the Baptist church and active in the welfare of the 
community.

Surviving the death are his wife, three children, Elgin and Eleanor 
at home, and Homer, a chemistry professor at Wisconsin University,

evening at the Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born in St. Marys, daughter of the late William and Mary 
Varner Clovis.  She was a retired accountant for Clovis Motors and 
Marietta Memorial Hospital and a secretary and treasurer of the 
Marietta Woman's Club.  She was a member of the Sixth and Washington 
Streets Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Adkins Sr.; a son Joseph Adkins, 
Jr., of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 
three sisters, Mrs. J.E. (Madge) (unreadable).

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Crawford; and a 
brother George A. Clovis.

Services were held at 1:30pm Wednesday at the Hadley Funeral Home 
with Don Craighead and Terry Varner officiating.  Burial was in the 
IOOF Cemetery in St. Marys.

letter carrier for 38 years, and a member of the National Association 
of Letter Carriers.

He is survived by one son, Joseph B. Adkins, Jr., Evansville; seven

St. Marys; and three sisters, Doris Hart and Evelyn Clovis, both of

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Clovis; and one daughter, 
Angela Crawford.

Services will be 10am Tuesday at the Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta 
with Roger A. Rush officiating.  Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery

Sterling Oil Division.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Maurice E. Adams; one 
step-son, the Rev. Gene Adkins of Parkersburg; five step-
grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Lee Hammett in 1967 
and William Hammett in 1994; and two sisters, Madonna Groves in 1971 
and Sylvia Richards in 1991.

Robert Elgin Adkins, 84, of St. Marys, died Sept. 2 at The Inn at 
Marietta.

He was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Marietta to the late Elgin and Dorothea 
Holdren Adkins.  He received his bachelor's degree from Salem College 
and his master's degree from West Virginia University.  He was a U.S. 
Army veteran of World War II.

He taught two years at Newport High School and then taught for 37 
years at St. Marys High School.

He was a 50-year member of St. Marys Lodge 41 AF&AM, a member of 
Bedouin Shrine Temple in Oklahoma, a life member of the Masonic 
Temple in Muskogee, OK, and the Marietta Shrine Club.  He was a 
member of Grace Episcopal Church in St. Marys, where he had served as 
trustee and senior warden.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gaynell Poston Adkins; one 
sister Margaret Stanley; two nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lt. Col. John B. Adkins.

Services were Sunday at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack 
Neilson, Hayward Perkey and Richard Kellogg officiating.  Burial was 
in Newport Cemetery.

Frank F. Agnew, aged 79 years, died at his home in Wheeling Saturday 
afternoon following an extended illness.

Mr. Agnew was born in St. Marys, January 30, 1868, the only son of 
the late J.K.M. And Lydia Cohagen Agnew.

He moved to Wheeling sixty years ago and for thirty-five years was an 
employee of the Peninsula plant of the Continental Foundry and 
Machine Corporation, retiring on December 1, 1946.

He was united in marriage with Miss Louise Schauwecker of St. Marys.  
She survives with four daughters, Mrs. Robert Steigner and Mrs. J.D. 
Jeavons of Wheeling; Mrs. Glenn Triplett and Mrs. Henry Sarber of St. 
Marys; one son Julius Agnew of Wheeling.  A son, Robert, preceded him 
in death.

Funeral services were held in the Kepner Funeral Chapel at 10:30am 
Tuesday.  The Rev. J. Reed Miller, pastor of the United Presbyterian 
Church officiated.  Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery.

Nelson E. "Nick" Alderman, 76, of St. Marys, died Wednesday at St. 
Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born in Upshur County April 1, 1912, the son of the late 
Louise Alderman Beane, who preceded him in death.  He was a member of 
the First Baptist church of St. Marys and an ironworker with 
membership in Local 549, Wheeling Ironworkers.

He is survived by his wife, Wyoma Wykert Alderman; one daughter, Mrs. 
Sandra Hall of St. Marys; two sons, Danny Alderman of Sardis, OH, and 
Donald D. Alderman of St. Marys; a half-brother, Milam Beane of St. 
Marys; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Pauline O'Hara of Royal Oak, MI, 
and Millicent Beatty of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren and one 
great-grandchild.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a half-
brother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Ruttencutter Funeral 
Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. William Stout officiating.  Burial 
will be in the Willow island Cemetery.

Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.
He was born March 8, 1916, in Vadis to the late John and Bertha Hurst 
alfred and was a utility man for consolidated Natural Gas Co. For 32 
years.  He was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church at Linn, and a 
U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served with the SeaBees.

He is survived by his wife, Marvell Bailey Alfred, whom he married 
Oct. 23, 1936; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Wayne Somerville 
of Buckhannon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Vickey Alfred 
of Waynesburg, PA, and Gary and Kathryn Alfred of Belmont; 8 
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Brannon, and one 
brother, James Alfred.

Services will be at 1:30pm Saturday at Floyd Funeral Home in Weston 
with the Rev. Kenneth Fisher officiating.  Burial will be in Rock 
Grove Cemetery at Linn.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris P. Jones Allen, in 
1957, and by his second wife, the former Martha Ankrom Lute, who died 
in 1985.

In 1975 he retired from Valley Mould and Iron Corporation at Hubbard, 
where he was a crane operator for 39 years.

He had lived in Courtland since 1979, having formerly resided in 
Brookfield, OH, and Wick, WV.

Survivors include tow sons, Clarence R. Of Phoenix, AZ, and Thomas D. 
Of Hubbard, PA; one daughter, patricia Hareskal of Steubenville, OH;

25 great-grandchildren.

time with Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born in Williamstown July 24, 1913.  He lived most of his life 
in West Virginia, moving to Clearwater, FL in 1946 where he taught in 
schools for exceptional children.  He was a graduate of Salem High 
School and Salem College.  He received his master's degree from 
Boston College in Boston, MA.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bond Alley, whom he married in 1937.  
He is also survived by two sons, Lawrence Alley, III and Dr. Joseph 
B. Alley, both of Boston, MA; and a daughter, Eleanor Lynn Alley of 
clearwater; a grandson and two granddaughters.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor A. Bell of Stuart, 
FL, and Mrs. Naomi A. Sellers of St. Marys.

DAVID L. AMBLER, SR.

David L. Ambler, Sr., 78, of Red House, died Saturday, Nov. 13, in 
Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Pleasants County, a son of Lutellis and Ella Rebecca 
Wells Ambler, and was educated in Pleasants County schools.

He grew up in his family's farm and was married to Miss Lora Ethel 
Riggs of St. Marys.  They moved to Blue Creek in 1914, later moving 
to Nitro, where he was an employee of the Nitro Powder plant during 
World War I.  He was founder of Southern Supply Lumber Company at 
Nitro, residing there until he was elected Sheriff of Putnam County 
in 1932.  He served his term as sheriff, was an automobile salesman 
for a short period, and then assumed the position of Putnam County 
Road Supervisor for the State Road Commission, a position he held for 
14 years.

During World War II, he served on the Putnam county Selective 
Services Board as Chief Clerk.

He was a member of the Poca Methodist Men's Club, a member of the St. 
Albans Masonic Lodge, a member of the Commandery, and a member of the 
Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston.

Surviving are his wife Mrs. Lora Ethel Riggs Ambler; two sons, David 
Ambler, Jr., of Hurricane, and Dr. John E. Ambler of Beltsville, MD., 
two granddaughters, Mrs. Cookie Ambler Allen of Charleston and Miss 
Dale Lynn Ambler of Beltsville; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Rable of St. 
Marys; and several nieces and nephews.  Two daughters, Mrs. May 
Candiff and Mrs. Ruth Spence preceded him in death.  He was a brother 
of the late Dr. Charles H. Ambler, noted historian and writer of 
Morgantown.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at St. Marys United Methodist 
Church with the Rev. George McCune officiating.  Burial was in the 
IOOF Cemetery at St. Marys with graveside rites conducted by the 
Masonic Lodge of St. Marys.

Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Sistersville Oct. 8, 1895, a daughter of George P. 
And Samantha Riggs.  She graduated from St. Marys High School and 
West Virginia State College.  She worked in the Putnam County 
Sheriff's office from 1932 till 1936, at which time her husband D.L. 
Ambler Sr. Served in that office.  She was postmistress at Red House 
for many years and taught school in the Putnam County School system.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Sep. 13, at Allen Funeral 
Home in Hurricane, with the Rev. O. Russell Withrow officiating.  
Burial was held at the IOOF Cemetery in St. Marys.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Amos; one daughter, Mrs. 
Yvonne Mossor of Rt. 39, St. Marys; one son, Rick Amos of Rt. 39, St. 
Marys; one brother, Ronald Booher of Newell; eight grandchildren and 
five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Services were held at 1:00pm Sunday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home 
in St. Marys, with the Rev. Ted Ball officiating.  Burial was in the 
Victory Cemetery in Tyler County.

Lodge 475, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 261 and Matamoras Senior 
Citizens.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Albert "Skip" Salome of Newark, OH, 
and Deanna McDaniel of Middletown, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Amos, in 1971; one 
daughter, Betty Davis.

Services were held Wednesday at the Hadley Funeral Home, New 
Matamoras, with burial in the Matamoras Cemetery.

was a retired operating engineer and a member of the IUOE Local No. 
132 for 45 years.

He was born in St. Marys to the late Marcus and Hattie Barclay 
Anderson.  He spent his early life in Illinois and lived most of his 
life in the Fleming community, where he owned Fleming Lumber Co.  He 
has also been engaged in farming.  He attended the Warren Chapel 
United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Eldon (Bud) Anderson of Belpre, Allen 
Anderson and Vernon Anderson, both of Fleming; two daughters, Barbara 
Huffman and Ruth Ann Swick, both of Fleming; 16 grandchildren; nine 
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dolpha Anderson and (unreadable) 
Anderson, both of Fleming; and two sisters, Helen Cunningham of 
Barlow, OH, and Crystal Abbott of Vincent, OH.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Lewis Anderson and Daniel

Church of Christ.  She had been employed by C&P Telephone Compnay and 
later by C&P Cable Company.

She is survived by a sistger, Katherine Robinson of Williamstown, 
with whom she resided for the past three months; a nephew samuel Lee 
Coen of Chesterton, IN; and two nieces, Florence Barth of Reno, OH, 
and Sue Coen of Chesterton, IN.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Narell Anderson in 
1981, and two brothers, Homer and Wilbert Lee Coen.

Warren Chapel Methodist Church and was a member of the Labor Union 
NO. 639 of Marietta.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Flora Mercer Anderson; three

Anderson of Marietta; two daughters, Eileen Sprague of Fleming and

She was born in Parkersburg a daughter of the late Cisco and Lola

of Camden, WV; three daughters, Brenda Taylor Fulton of Williamstown,

31 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Trinity Episcopal 
Church, Parkersburg.

She was born in Marietta, a daughter of the late Hugh and Bertha 
Theodosia Rogers Northrop.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sally and Lloyd 
Morgan and Mickey Holmes, all of Vienna; and one nephew, Gary

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Albert 
Anderson; one son, James William Anderson; and one sister, Faun 
Underwood.

Thomas A. Anderson, 81, of Vienna, a retired chairman of the board of 
directors of Quaker State Oil Refining Crop., died Tuesday at Camden-
Clark Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Anderson, a native of Smethport, PA, began his 43 years of employment 
with Quaker State in 1932 as an engineer at the corporation's Farmers 
Valley, PA refinery.  In 1935, he was promoted to assistant plant 
manager of the St. Marys refinery and in 1944 become plant manager.

chairman until 1982.  In 1971 he was chosen West Virginia Oil and Gas 
Man of the Year.

He was born in Bradford, PA, a son of the late Anthony Michael Anton 
Anderson and Edna Thomas Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Mildred Northrop 
of Vienna; and children, Mickey Holmes of Vienna and Sally and Lloyd 
Morgan of Allison Park, PA.

He was preceded in death by an infant son.

The funeral will be 11am Friday at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Marys, 
with the Rev. Rodgers T. Wood assisted by the Rev. Nathan E. Williams

War II and was employed by the Ben Tom Corp.

Surviving are his wife, Lola Gray Andrew of St. Marys; five sons,

all of Pennsboro, Lee Thomas Andrew of St. Marys and Andy Joseph

She was born July 30, 1894, in Grandview Twp., a daughter of the late

On Aug. 26, 1955, she was married to Clarmont Angus, who survives.  
She was a member of Newport Church of Christ, and had taught a 
children's Sunday School class 25 years.

Her first husband, George Ira Williamson, died in 1954.

One son and four daughters survive; Bernard Williamson and Mrs. Buena 
Story, both of Cincinnati, OH, Mrs. Lawrence Rouse, Newport; Mrs.

William H. "Dick" Ansel, Jr., 74, of Springfield, died Dec. 13 at 
Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, MD.

Born Jan. 23, 1914, at Springfield, Ansel was a son of the late 
William H. and Catherine (Fields) Ansel.

Mr. Ansel was a graduate of Potomac State College, Shepherd College 
and the West Virginia University College of Law.  He was admitted to 
the bar in 1948.  He was a former Hampshire County school teacher who 
was elected as a state delegate from 1942-48.

He was assistant state attorney general in 1948 and was the state 
treasurer from 1950 to 1957 when he established a law practice in 
Romney.  Ansel was a director of the board of the Bank of Romney and 
was named in Who's Who in American Law Journal, Who's Who in America 
and an Outstanding West Virginian.  In 1985 he was dubbed a Knight of 
Olde Hampshire.

Mr. Ansel was a member of the American, West Virginia South Branch 
Bar Associations and the Springfield United Methodist Church.

He was author of "Frontier Forts Along the Potomac and Its 
Tributaries."

Surviving are his widow, Helen (Kauffman) Ansel; three daughters, 
Connie Jean Keaton, Romney; Barbara Ann Carl, St. Marys; and Vickie 
Jo Milleson, Springfield; three brothers, Willard M. Ansel, 
Charleston; Dr. Thomas L.  Ansel, Keyser; and Michael C. Ansel, San 
Francisco, CA; two sisters, Virginia Allen, Springfield; and Betty 
Catherine Lewis, Wadsworth, OH; eight grandchildren, and one great-
granddaughter.

Services were conducted Friday by the Rev. Sumner Sawyers and the 
Rev. Elinor Mosser.  Interment was in the Springfield Hill Cemetery.

Nina C. Anthony, 83, of St. Marys, died Wednesday at Charleston Area 
Medical Center.

Anthony was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church, Order of the 
Eastern Star Chapter 31, and the Rebekah Lodge in St. Marys and a 
foster grandparent at the Colin Anderson Center.

She was born in Pleasants County, a daughter of the late Hayes and 
Martha Dotson Hall.

She is survived by two brothers, Clyde V. Hall of Frankfurt Springs, 
PA, and Crandall Hall of Williamstown; three sisters, Lula Snyder, 
Lola Hall and Bari Lynn Brake, all of St. Marys; and several nieces 
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Anthony; four 
sisters; and two brothers.

The funeral will be 1pm Saturday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home in 
St. Marys, with the William Stout officiating.  Burial will be in St. 
Marys IOOF Cemetery.

She was born in Brownsville, a daughter of Frederick Peter and Rose 
Brown Schultheis.  She was a Methodist by faith.  She was a member of 
Matamoras Order of Eastern Star 261, Grandview Rebekah Lodge 475 and 
the Mary Martha Circle of the church.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Archbold of Phoenix, AZ, and 
William Archbold of Woodbridge, VA; one stepson, Emerson Archbold of 
Barnesville.

Services were held Wednesday at the Hadley Funeral Home, Matamoras, 
with the Rev. Jim Gibbons officiating.  Burial was in the Matamoras 
Cemetery.

General Hospital.

She was born in Attwood, WV to the late Simon and Ruth Earlewine 
West.  She was a member of the Mount Olive Community Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Hess of Kent, OH, Sara 
Longwell of New Martinsville, and Louise Slaughter of Sistersville; 
four sons, Roy Gene Archer of Charleston, Chauncey Archer of 
Sistersville, Richard Barrett of Dayton, OH, and Paul Barrett of St. 
Marys; two brothers, Lloyd West and Joseph West, both of 
Middlebourne; and one sister, Dessie Reed of Middlebourne; 20 
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alva Barrett, and her 
second husband, Chauncey Archer, in 1973.

Services were Thursday at Eckels Funeral Home in Sistersville, Burial 
was in Archer's Chapel Cemetery in Tyler County.

James R. Archer, 74, of Marietta, died Oct. 25 at his residence.

The noted Marietta businessman and civic leader was born in Marietta 
to the late Walter H. Archer, Sr. And Genevieve Reid Archer.  He was 
a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He retired as owner of Archer 
Auto Parts in Marietta.  He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's 
Catholic Church where he served as acolyte since his youth.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Cochran Archer of Marietta; four sons, 
Dave Archer of Lowell, OH, Bob Archer of Mentor, OH, Jim Archer of 
Marietta and Con Archer of St. Marys; two brothers, John Archer of 
Lowell and Walter Archer Jr. Of Marietta; one sister, Carolyn Armor 
of Marietta; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10am Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with 
the Rev. Chester Pabin officiating.  Burial will be in New St. Mary's 
Cemetery with full military rites.

Roy G. Arnott, 66, Route 7, Whitehall Community, Fairmont, died 
Saturday, March 3, in Wishing Well Health Center, Fairmont.

He was born in Spencer, a son of the late (unreadable) and Blanch 
Gilpin Arnott.  He had worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture 
and the Farmers Home Administration, where he retired after 32 years 
of government service.  He was member of the First United Methodist 
Church and the Whitehall Lions Club.

II.

He is survived by his wife, Betty West Arnott; two sons, Randall

of Cross Lanes, and Roma T. Arnott of Spencer; four sisters, Thelma

Parkersburg, and Evelyn Myers of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; four 
grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Kristian, and Gregory Arnott.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Omar, Harlan, and Ray 
Arnott.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Carpenter & Ford Funeral 
Home, Fairmont.  Burial was in Rest Have Memorial Gardens.

Otha C. "Bob" Arthur, Sr., 60, of Mineral Wells, died Monday evening 
in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Creston, a son of Amy E. Davis Arthur of Barberton, 
OH, and the late Otha C. Arthur.  He was a member of the Apostolic 
Hour of Faith Church, Parkersburg, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the 
Korean Conflict.  He was a 20-year employee of Elkem Metal, Marietta, 
where he was a welder.

He is also survived by his wife of 37 years, Emma Ruth Arthur; two 
sons, Otha C. Arthur Jr. Of Lubeck and Rick Arthur of St. Marys; one 
daughter, Cheryl Null of Mineral Wells; one brother, Harold Arthur, 
and one sister, Oma Ruth North, both of Barberton; one half-brother, 
Otha M. Arthur of Parkersburg; two half-sisters, Joyce Loan of Lubeck 
and Ruth Jackson of Parkersburg.

The funeral will be at 1pm Thursday, at the Leavitt Funeral Home, 
Parkersburg, with the Rev. Joe Nelson officiating.  Burial will be in 
Sunset Memory Gardens.

Belva M. Ash, 102, retired Wood County teacher, died Tuesday in 
Parkview Health Care Center.

Ash taught in Wood County for 36 years, retiring from McKinley 
School.  She also taught in McDowell, Harrison, and Marshall County 
schools with a total of 46 years of teaching.

Ash was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Dorcas 
Circle, Wood County Retired Teachers Association, and the West 
Virginia Retired Teachers Association.

She was born in Tyler County, daughter of the late James and Sarah 
Lucena Smith Ash.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews 
including W.E. Lawson of Parkersburg, Mary Michael of St. Marys, 
Dessie Amrick of Orlando, FL, Sarah Hann of Columbus, and Leon Ash of 
Charleston; a great niece, Sarah Wilson of Parkersburg.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

The funeral will be 11am Friday at Vaughan Funeral Home with the Rev. 
Maurice A. Miller officiating.  Burial will be in the Friendly 
Cemetery.

Frederica Reed Ferrell.  She was a member of the St. Marys United 
Methodist Church and had been employed at the former marble firm, 
Marble King, Inc., for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Ash, Magnolia Manor, 
Sistersville; two sisters, Betty Cooper of St. Marys and Geraldine 
Bailey of Vienna; and two nephews, Robert Cooper of St. Marys and 
Stephen Bailey of Centerville, OH.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ferrell, in June

She was a 50-year member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethany 
Chapter 4 of Parkersburg, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist 
Church, Parkersburg.

She was born in Davisville, a daughter of the late Benjamin F. And 
Clara Fought Ross.

She is survived by one step-daughter, Janet Twinam of Santa Fe, NM; 
three sisters, Elizabeth Cornell of Cairo, Eleanor Hill of 
Parkersburg and Nina Bafile of Warren, MI; and several step-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ashby; first

Atkinson, 73, was also associate pastor of St. Paul's United 
Methodist Church in Parkersburg and had served at St. Marys United 
Methodist Church.

He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late George E. And Eva 
Bibbee Atkinson.

He was a graduate of Morris Harvey College in Charleston, was a 
Mason, and former chaplain of the West Virginia State Police.  He was 
a 50-year member of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United 
Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Holbert Atkinson; two sons, Stephen 
E. Atkinson and Richard A. Atkinson, both of South Charleston; one 
daughter, Nancy Taylor of Houston, TX; two brothers, Ira W. Atkinson 
of Parkersburg and George E. Atkinson of Erie, PA; three sisters, 
Frances Taylor, Mary Purvis and Georgia Hupp, all of Parkersburg; 14 
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

B. Dunn Auberle.  He was veteran of the Army Air Force in World War 
II and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.  He retired 
in 1980 after 44 years with Monongahela Power Co.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Quinn Auberle; a son William M. 
Auberle of Barlow, OH; a daughter, Shirley Lowe of Cincinnati, OH; 
two sisters, Wilma Daugherty of Parkersburg and Lousie Dulin of 
Denver, CO; and four grandchildren, Matthew Auberle, Gregory Auberle, 
Jeff Lowe and Julie Lowe.

John L. Ault, 61, Rt. 3, St. Marys, died Sunday afternoon at Camden-
Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born in Wood County, son of the late Edward and Florida Pride 
Ault.  He was a member of the Naish Springs Church of Christ and 
worked in the maintenance department at Ohio Valley College.  He was 
a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Davis Ault; four daughters, Louella 
Ault of Waverly, Patricia Farson, Cheryl Miller, and Tonya Jenkins, 
all of St. Marys; one son, Johnny Ault, also of St. Marys; two 
brothers, Herman Ault of Florida, and Edward Ault of Weston; six 
sisters, Ruby Riffle of Belpre, OH, Sylvia Hall of Amherst, OH, 
Emogene Reynolds of Lorain, OH, Mary Ault and Thelma King, both of 
Vermillion, OH; his stepfather, Harry Stump of Vermillion; and 11 
grandchildren.

Services were held at 1:00pm Wednesday at the Ruttencutter Funeral 
Home in St. Marys, with Evang. Stephen Smith officiating.  Burial was 
in the Kanawha Baptist Cemetery in Leachtown.

Pauline "Polly" Austin, 61, of Paden City, died Friday in the Wetzel 
County Hospital, New Martinsville.

She was born in Tennessee.  She was a Protestant and an employee of 
Colin Anderson Center in St. Marys.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Austin of Albuquerque, NM, and 
Timothy Austin of Paden City; a daughter, Tamara Beverlin of New 
Martinsville; a half-brother, Dewey Purkey of Athens, TN; and three 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Austin, in 
1978.

The Mowery-Towbridge Funeral Home in Paden City was in charge of 
arrangements.

Bethel Auville, 89, of St. Marys, died Friday morning in St. Joseph's 
Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born in Pleasants County, daughter of the late Joseph and 
Anne Nellis Robinson.  She was a member of the St. Marys United 
Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Jay G. Auville Jr. Of St. Marys.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay G. Auville.

Services were held at 1pm Monday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home in 
St. Marys, with the Rev. Maurice Miller officiating.  Burial was in 
Nine Mile Cemetery.

JAY G. AUVILLE, JR.

Jay G. Auville, Jr., 70, of St. Marys, died Saturday at his 
residence.

Auville was a Methodist by faith, and was retired from Union 
Carbide's Marietta Plant.  He was a Parkersburg High School graduate.

He was born in Kanawha County, a son of the late Jay G. And Bethel 
Robinson Auville.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, 
Blaine Auville.

The funeral will be (unreadable) Tuesday at the Ruttencutter Funeral 
Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Darrel Gooden officiating.  Burial 
will be in Nine Mile Cemetery.
