* Private Co. A 39th Regiment 10th Pa. Reserves Corps 
* Enlisted Oct. 18, 1862 at age 24 in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Mustered in Oct. 29, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa 
* Transferred to Co. I 191st Regiment Pa. Infantry June 1, 1864 
* NOTE: does not show in 191st Regiment 
* Widow Pension: Applied Mar. 9, 1865, Application #85542, Certificate #92624
* Widow Pension lists the following: Died Nov. 3, 1864 at Camp Lawton, Georgia 
of scurvy while a prisoner of war; Widow - Mary; Maiden name of Mary was 
Shumaker born July 8, 1837; Mary was admitted to a pension of $8 per month 
commencing Nov. 3, 1864; Mary A. married Samuel P. Shale who left her without 
support on Apr. 6, 1868; Mary was granted a divorce on Dec. 20, 1902; She 
applied in 1902 to have her pension restored; On Oct. 19, 1903 Mary received a 
pension of $12 per month, note on certificate states that she is entitled to $20 
per month commencing Sept. 8, 1916; Mary A. Shale who was last paid Apr. 4, 1919 
at the rate of $25 per month was dropped from the pension roll due her death 
Apr. 12, 1919.
