Knauss, J. T., Principal of United States Institute of Business and 
Finances; born in Emauus, Lehigh county, in 1837; educated at 
Freeland Seminary, Pa. came to Easton in 1873; taught school at Bath 
seven years; Principal at Nazareth Parochial School three yeses; 1873 
was one of the founders of the school of which he is now Principal, 
of the only school of purely commercial character in the county.

settled in Easton in 1843; taught school with Rev. John Vanderveer 
nearly five years; married, in 1846, to Miss Louisa Smith; commenced

to Mary Ann Bader.  Tilghman Kepler's mill was built by James Thompson in 1839.  It has been
run by Mr. Kepler for about then years.  The buildings are on stone, quarried in Palmer township.
It is five stories high, and has four run of stones.  It is situated on the Bushkill, about
tow miles from Easton, and has a large and flourising trade.  Office 324 Northampton Street, Easton.
