Amanda Molvina Carpenter was born Ephrata Township, Lancaster County. The 
eldest daughter of a millwright, Giles Carpenter (1800-1857) and Jane 
McClintock (1809-1879). On 4 April 1854, in Ephrata Township, Amanda married 
Solomon H. Weaver (ca 1827- 1865), with Rev. J. J. Strine presiding. The couple 
moved first of Seneca County, Ohio, and then, in 1862, settled in New Paris, 
Elkhart County, Indiana. In 1864 Solomon joined as a substitute, Company K, 
35th Indiana Volunteers; he died in Nashville, Tennessee, of Malarial typhoid 
feaver. On 9 March 1868 Amanda married Jesse L. Manahan; they were living 
appart in 1870 and divorced in 1873. In 1876, she married Nathaniel Moorehouse, 
a cooper. Amanda died in 1894 and is burried in Violett Cemetery, Elkhart 
County, Indiana. Solomon and Amanda had the following children; Lydia Ann 
Weaver (1854-1862); Hnery Albert Weaver (1856-1912); Sarah Jane Weaver (1858-
1844; Almira Rachael Weaver (1861-?); Milton A. Weaver (1862-1946; and Solomon 
Weaver (1865-1935. Amanda and Jesse Mamahan had one son Melvin Charles Manahan 
(1868-?) who is sometimes listed with the last name Weaver.
