Ethel E. RAY, 90, a resident at Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg,
formerly of Alexandria, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the home
following an extended illness. Born May 26, 1911, in Altoona, she was
the daughter of the late C.O. and Elizabeth S. (Leake) Laughlin. She
married Ralph W. Ray, Jan. 15, 1968. He preceded in death Feb. 9, 1975.
She is survived by three nieces and one nephew. Mrs. Ray was a member of
the Alexandria Bible Church. She was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed
gardening, flowers and her church. Funeral services will be held this
evening, April 4, at 8:00 p.m. at the William G. Bigelow II Funeral
Home, 1701 Sixth Ave., Altoona, with Pastor Robert G. Maurer
officiating. Interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona. 

Mary Jane (Kelly) CLARK, 87, a resident of William Penn Nursing Center,
Lewistown, formerly of E, Market Street, Mount Union, died at 11:20 a.m.
Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the nursing center. Born March 13, 1915, in
Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late John Irvin and Minnie Mae
(Carbaugh) Kelly. She was united in marriage to George M. Clark in 1946.
Mr. Clark preceded her in death in October 1964. She is survived by a
son, Dennis Kelly Clark of Lewistown, three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two
sisters: Clifton, Clair and Calvin Kelly, Stella Price and Olive Brock.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount
Union. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 16. She was a past
president and secretary of the Berean Sunday School Class, a member of
the administrative board of the church, a substitute teacher, a member
of the United Methodist Women and the executive board, having served as
secretary and served a number of years as secretary of program
resources. She had been a member of the Mount Union Civic Club since
1941, chairing the program committee, ways and means committee, and
helping with various projects and other committee work. She did
volunteer work for the Mount Union Red Cross bloodmobile and Cancer
Crusade fund drives. Mrs. Clark was a former director of the Juniata
Foundation for the Blind, Huntingdon Branch, serving on the eye care
committee. Working in the Mount Union Area, she was secretary of the
board, a substitute publicity chairman and a member of the board of
directors for the Lewistown Branch of the Juniata Foundation for the
Blind. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Mount Union for one year, with
help from her brother, Clifton. She served on the reunion Committee for
her high school class. She was a graduate of Mount Union
High School, Class of 1933. Mrs. Clark first worked for the Huntingdon
County Board of Assistance, Huntingdon, starting in March 1934, but was
laid off due to the WPA projects. She worked in the office of the
Federal Bureau of Business Census in 1936; the Resettlement
Administration, Huntingdon, a federal reforestation project encompassing
several counties, including a project for Penn State University; the
Pennsylvania State Employment Service (now BES), Huntingdon, where she
assisted in setting up files for the first Social Security numbers
assigned to Huntingdon County workers. She returned to the Office of
Public Assistance (Now DPW), Huntingdon, with total service of over 36
years. Mrs. Clark worked in all phases of the clerical department,
except Food Stamps program, and as executive secretary to every
executive director and the board of that office, except the Rev. Charles
H. Stong and Daniel DiSimoni. For the last five years prior to her
retirement, she did case work and interviewing as an income maintenance
worker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the
Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Davidson
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery.

Wilgus M. ENYEART, 89, of 101 W. Milford St., Mount Union, died at 10:35
p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. Born Nov. 22, 1912, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of
the late John L. and Ella Jane (Delaney) Enyeart. She was the last
surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by one
brother and four sisters: Cloyd Enyeart, Gladys Enyeart, Anna Kehn,
Agnes Oppel and Helen Enyeart. Ms. Enyeart was a member of St.
Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She graduated from Mount
Union High School, Class of 1931. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10
a.m. Saturday, April 6, at St. Catholic Church, Mount Union, with the
Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will be made in St.
Catherine's Cemetery, Shirleysburg.

David H. ROSS, 76, of Shirley Twp., Mount Union, died at 10:40 a.m.
Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
He had been in failing health for the past year. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in
Philadelphia, he was the son of Harry and Freda (MacDonald) Ross. He
married Patricia Strassacker Aug. 9, 1974, in Horsham. Mrs. Ross
survives at Home. A daughter, Mindy Wommer of Philadelphia, and two
grandsons survive. Two brothers, Harry Ross of South Carolina, and
Samuel Ross of Pennsylvania survive. Mr. Ross was educated in the
Philadelphia public school system, He was a HAM radio operator for many
years and was a member of the HCAR Club. He was also a member of the
Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post 24, Huntingdon; Moose Lodge 233,
Huntingdon; and a life member of the Huntingdon County Humane Society.
He was a teamster organizer in the Philadelphia area and worked as a
warehouseman until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Ross served in the United
States navy during World War II from February 1943 until February 1946.
He was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three stars, the American
Service Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was an avid reader and
self-taught in many areas of interest, having become an accomplished
chess player, artist and guitarist. He loved hunting, fishing and his
dogs and cats. At the request of the family, funeral services will be
private.

Anna Mary (Brindle) GRUBB, 70, of 10 West 33rd St., Huntingdon, died at
3:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona,
following a brief illness. Born Oct. 22, 1931, in Huntingdon, she was
the daughter of the late Harvey Clayton and Ethel Grace (Garner)
Brindle. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Ann (Grubb)
Lastauckas of Fleetwood, and Rhonda Cheryl (Grubb) Miller of Ephrata.
Three brothers and one sister survive: Ivajean Valle, Huntingdon;
Sheldon Brindle, York; Clair E. Brindle, Huntingdon; and C.Carl Brindle,
Rockville, Md. Mrs. Grubb was a member of the St. James Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She attended the public schools of
Huntingdon and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of
1949. She retired from Quality Control at Advanced Glassfiber Yarns, LLC
(formerly Owens-Corning Fiberglas), Huntingdon, after 51 years of
service. She enjoyed horse shows, suimming and hiking. Funeral services
will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the St. Matthews
Lutheran Church "Old Stone Church" on Route 26, James Creek, with the
Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in the Old
Stone Church Cemetery, Penn Twp., James Creek.

Crystal F. (Westover) RUPERT, 27, of Alexandria, was pronounced dead at
7:45 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, of injuries she sustained in a
vehicle accident near Huntingdon. She was born June 3, 1974, in
Huntingdon the daughter of Freddie Westover of Mount Union, and Theresa
(Palm) Westover of Kistler, Mount Union. She married Michael G. Rupert
April 24, 1995, in West Virginia. He survives at their home along with
the following children: Chellsie L. Rupert, Dalton L. Rogers and
Cheyenne M. Rupert. Also surviving is her paternal grandmother, Clara
Stever of Mount Union, and two sisters, Tami Raison of Mount Union and
Amanda Westover of Kistler, Mount Union. Mrs. Rupert was a member of the
Word of Life fellowship Church in Saulsburg. She graduated from Mount
Union Area High School and the Huntingdon County Area
Vocational-Technical School curriculum in 1992. She had been employed at
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, for three years. Mrs. Rupert
enjoyed sports and had played in the Huntingdon County Softball League
for several years. As a youth, she was a member of the Girl Scout troop
in Allenport. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7,
at the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Saulsburg, with Pastor Stephen
Watkins officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Grove Cemetery,
Petersburg.

Shirley L. PETRON, 55, of Juniata Avenue, Allenport, Mount Union, died
unexpectedly at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, at her home. She was
born May 1, 1946, in Mount Union, the daughter of Leroy and Thelma
(Jaymes) Armold. Her father preceded her in death and her mother resides
in Mount Union. She was united in marriage to Andrew "Andy" Petron Jan.
21, 1962, in Mount Union. He preceded her in death July 22, 1992.
Surviving is her companion, Edward Zeigler, who resided with her, and
her three children: Michael A Petron of Mount Union, Tammy J. Petron of
Allenport, Mount Union, and Patricia J. Mills of Kistler. There are four
grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Mrs. Paul (Darlene) Cox of Kistler
and Ann Meloni of Mount Union. She was preceded in death by an infant
sister, Sharon Ann Arnold, and a brother, Terry Lee Arnold. Mrs. Petron
was of the Presbyterian faith. She attended Mount Union schools. Mrs.
Petron enjoyed crocheting, especially making lap robes for different
charitable organizations, including the Shirley Home. The funeral
service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, at the Robert
D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Chris Heinlein and the
Rev. Elam Glick officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, Dublin Twp.

Mildred Grace (Hess) MOYER, 93, of the Oaks at Westminster Woods,
Huntingdon, formerly of 704 Oneida St., Huntingdon, and Hesston, died at
11:52 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, at Westminster Woods, following a
brief illness. She was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Hesston, the daughter of
William and Laura (Stone) Hess. Her husband, Walter J. Moyer, preceded
her in death in July 1963. She is survived by a son, Max W. Moyer of
Huntingdon; two great-grandchildren. One brother, Cheston Hess, and one
sister, Helen (Hess) Straitiff, preceded her in death. Mrs. Moyer was a
member of the Valley View Christian and Missionary Alliance Church,
Piney Ridge, Huntingdon. She attended the public schools of Hesston and
graduated from Huntingdon High School in the Class of 1928. During her
lifetime, Mrs. Moyer was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening,
flowers and sewing. A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown
Funeral Home, Huntingdon, at 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, with the Rev.
Richard J. Harter officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone
Church Cemetery, Penn Twp.

Rhonda S. WITTERS, 35, of Largo Fla., a former resident of Huntingdon,
died April 5, 2002, at the Largo Medical Center, Fla. Born Jan. 27,
1967, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Lucy McClalland of Largo,
Fla., and Ronald Witters of Cassville. In addition to her parents, she
is survived by two sisters, Trudi and Diana, Both of Florida, as well as
by numerous relatives in the Huntingdon County area. Ms. Witters had
attended the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon. She attended
the Nina Harris School for Retarded Citizens. A service was held at 11
a.m. April 8, in Largo, Fla. 

John LUCAS, 76, of Amarillo, Texas, died Friday, April 5, 2002. Born
June 9, 1925, in Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Andrew
and Mary (Benco) Lucas. He married Freda Travis in 1957 in Blythville,
Ark. Mrs. Lucas survives at home. A daughter, Teresa Lomax of Amarillo,
Texas, and a son, John Steven Lucas of Austin, Texas, survive, as well
as a granddaughter. Seven sisters and two brothers survive: Mary
Grasser, Mercersburg; Margaret Wright, Camp Hill; Anna Gracey, Susan
Gracey and Agnes Lucas, all of Robertsdale, Libby Zelanko, Broad Top;
Barbara Sodano of Saltillo; Andrew Lucas, Three Springs; and Paul Lucas,
Broad Top. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Ethel and Helen
Lucas, and Pauline Hicks. He worked for Texas Mental Health in Vernon,
Texas, until his retirement in 1987. He served in the Merchant Marines
during World War II. In the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S.
Army and then with the U.S. Air Force for 18 years as a aircraft
machinist. He was also involved in active duty during the Vietnam
Conflict.

Donald L. RUNK JR., 40, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday,
April 5, 2002, at his home. Born Dec. 5, 1961, in Huntingdon, he was the
son of Donald L. Sr. and Patsy (Strausser) Runk. His parents survive in
Huntingdon. His companion, Ellen M. (Harman) Runk, survives at home.
Four children survive: Ellen Runk, at home; Tara L. Runk, Orlando, Fla.;
Walter B. Runk and William J. Dittsworth III, at Home. Three grandsons
also survive. He is also survived by three sisters, Lerinna Runk of
Shade Gap, and Rose Wagner and Melissa Russler, both of Petersburg. Mr.
Runk was a member of the Allenport VFW Home Association. He had most
recently been employed as a fiber optic installer for Henkels and McCoy
and had previously worked in construction in various eastern states. A
funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the
Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon with Captains Robert and
Wendy Hart officiating. Interment will be made in Mountainview Cemetery
in Mill Creek.

Cindy Jo (Swan) MILLER, 31, of Alexandria, R.R. 1, Logan Twp., died at
6:45 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, near McAlevys Fort, Jackson Twp. Born
May 26, 1970, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Charles W. and
Helen M. (Hoffmaster) Swan who survive in Petersburg. Her grandmother,
Louise A. Hoffmaster, survives in Altoona. She is survived by her former
husband, Francis M. Miller of Alexandria, whom she married in 1996. A
daughter and son, Shannon M. and Zackary C. Miller, survive at the home
of their father. Two sisters, Susan M. Morningstar of Smithfield Twp.,
and Michelle L. Dick of Alexandria, survive. Ms. Miller was a member of
the Crever United Methodist Church, Petersburg. A lifetime resident of
Huntingdon County, she attended the Juniata Valley schools. She had been
employed for the past several years as a cashier at Burger King in State
College. She enjoyed collecting eagles. Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata
Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Sharon L. Landis
officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg.

Louis D. "Buster" ARCQ, 50, of 127 Creek Side Lane, Hopewell, died
Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Hopewell Twp. Death was unexpected. Born Dec.
26, 1951, in Roaring Spring, he was the son of Mary E. (Sattioux) Arcq,
who survives in Hopewell, and the late Louis Arcq. He married Tonya Reed
Jan, 23, 1971, in Hopewell. She survives at home. He is survived by
three sons, Eric Arcq of Coalmont and Toby and Jeremy Arcq, both of
Hopewell, as well as three grandchildren. A sister, Patty Hockenberry of
Everett, survives. Mr. Arcq was a member of the Hopewell United
Methodist Church. He was the treasurer of the Saxton Lions Club and had
been very active with Boy Scout Troop 94 of Hopewell where he also
served as treasurer. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and an
electrician in the mines, and had worked at New Enterprise Stone and
Lime Co. and Stoudnour Petroleum in Saxton. Funeral services will be
held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel,
Saxton. 

George Chalmer SHEARER, 91, a resident of Penn Hall Nursing Center,
Chambersburg, formerly of Blairs Mills, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, April
7, 2002, at the Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born Sept. 24, 1910, in Blairs
Mills, he was the son of the late George Doris and Maggie Blanche
(Rodgers) Shearer. He was married to the former Sara Ickes. She preceded
him in death Feb. 1, 1997. Several nieces and nephews survive. Two
sisters, Ethel Burdge and Mary Campbell, preceded him in death. Mr.
Shearer was a member of the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church,
Waterloo. He was a self-employed farmer his entire life. A funeral
service will be held Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at the John L.
Agett Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, with the Revs. Merry Hope
Maloy and Clyde R. Brown officiating. Interment will be made in the
Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Waterloo.

Yvonne A. "Peanut" HESS, 56, of Lackawanna, N.Y., died Sunday, April 7,
2002, at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, N.Y. Born Nov. 20, 1945,
in Six Mile Run. She was the daughter of George and Harriet (Steuart)
Abbott, who survive in Six Mile Run. She was married to William Hess
Sept. 12, 1971, in Saxton. Mr. Hess survives at home. She is survived by
two daughters and one son: Billie Jo Leroy, Dudley; Jody Ann Lazor and
Randy Colledge, both of Six Mile Run; and eight grandchildren. Two sons,
Kevin and Lawrence Colledge, preceded her in death. Four sisters and
three brothers survive: Linda Coy, Robertdale; Deanna Miklich,
Cleveland, Ohio; Victoria Orlando and Jeanne Abbott, both of Buffalo,
N.Y.; Kenneth Abbott, Six Mile Run; Steven Abbott, Todd; and David
Abbott of Six Mile Run. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday, April 11, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top, with
Pastor James Thomas officiating. 

Myrtle L. MCKNIGHT, 95, of Todd, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, April 8,
2002, at her home. Born Sept. 6, 1906, in Todd, she was the daughter of
the late Irvin and Nellie (Barnett) Ramsey. She was married to Robert
McKnight April 14, 1928, at Huntingdon. Mr. McKnight preceded her in
death June 14, 1962. Five daughters and two sons survive: Mrs. Ronald
(Faye) Endres, Findley, Ohio; Mrs. Oren (Grace) Lemin, Todd; Mrs.
Tolbert (Jean) Karns, Fayetteville; Mrs. Norman (Norma) Ramper,
Robertsdale; Samuel "Jack" McKnight and Mrs. Arthur (Delores) Donelson,
both of Cassville; Mrs. Robert (Joan) Fischer, Williamsport; and Fred
McKnight, Cassville. Twenty seven grandchildren and 54
great-grandchildren, and 36 great-great-grandchildren survive. A son and
a daughter, Bobby and Kay McKnight, preceded in death. Three brothers,
Ralph, Laurence and Bert Ramsey, and six sisters, Gertrude Ramsey, Alda
Hess, Hattie Cornelius, Veda Parks, Althea Ward and Velma Ramsey,
preceded in death. Mrs. McKnight was a member of the Trough Creek United
Methodist Church in Todd. She was a member of the Trough Creek Valley
Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary; Frances Rebekah Lodge, Cassville; Trough
Creek Valley Grange No. 444; 50-Plus Club, Cassville; and the Three
Springs Senior Citizens. During her life she was primarily a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the
Trough Creek United Methodist Church, Todd, with the Revs. Ronald Endres
and Donald Henderson officiating. Interment will be made in the Trough
Creek Cemetery, Todd. 

Jacob W. BAUMGARDNER, 51, of Saxton, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at his
home. Death was unexpected. Born Oct 13, 1950, in Huntingdon, he was the
son of Doris L. (Molosky) Baumgardner, who survives in Saxton, and the
late George R. Baumgardner. He married Anna R. Tedrow, Dec. 18, 1976, in
Stonerstown, with the Rev. Daniel Brumbaugh officiating. Mrs.
Baumgardner survives at their home. A grandmother, Virginia Keys of Camp
Hill, survives. Two daughters, Stayce Dawn Hawthrone of Atglen, and
Vickie Sue Harby of State College, survive, along with four
grandchildren. A son, Jason R. Baumgardner, preceded in death. Mr.
Baumgardner was a member of the Saxton Sportsmen's Club and the VFW Post
4129. He worked at General Refractories in Claysburg. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing and gun collectiong. Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel in
Saxton, with Pastor John Robinson officiating. Interment will be made in
St. Luke's Cemetery, Saxton. 

Reed A. BROWN, 70, of Great Cove Road, Fort Littleton, died at 9:05 p.m.
Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Fulton County Medical Center,
McConnellsburg. Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Dublin Twp., Fulton County, he
was the son of the late Edward and Nellie (Brown) Brown. He married
Evelyn Leidy Sept. 12, 1950. Mrs. Brown survives at their home. One son
and three daughters survive: Darlene Edmunds, Radcliff, Ky.; Steven
Brown, Burnt Cabins; Jackie Brown, Lewistown; Dian Bishop, Mercersburg.
Eight Grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by three
brothers. Mr. Brown was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the
Cromwell Lodge 572, Free and accepted Masons, Orbisonia. He retired as a
truck driver from PPG Corporation in 1985. He operated an excavating
business for the past ten years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30
a.m. Thursday, April 11, at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown,
with the Revs. Belvy White and Ted Hale officiating. Interment will be
made in Clear Ridge Cemetery, Hustontown. 

Ethel Florence HENNAMAN, 84, formerly of Silverford Heights, Mount
Union, and a resident of Huntingdon Manor, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday,
April 9, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. She had been in failing
health. Born Feb. 23, 1918, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late
Roy and Belle (Kimberly) Rhodes. She was married to Merrill W. Hennaman
Sept. 14, 1936. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1983. She is survived
by one daughter, Mr. David E. (Phyllis) Colbert, of HCR 1, Huntingdon,
four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two
great-great-granddaughters. Two brothers survive, Marion Rhodes of Sugar
Valley, McVeytown, and Guy Rhodes of McVeytown. Four brothers and two
sisters preceded in death: Dale Rhodes, Robert Rhodes, Janet Huffman,
Bertha Walton, Glen Rhodes and Lewis Rhodes. Mrs. Hennaman was a member
of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mount Union. She was a member of
the Newton-Wayne Volunteer Fire Co. and the Atkinsons Mills Senior
Citizens. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at
the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Ed Seeley
officiating. Interment will be made in the LOOF Cemetery in Mapleton. 

Herbert Allen FISHER, 81, of 11 S. Jones St. Lock Haven, died at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Lock Haven Hospital. Mr. Fisher had been
a longtime resident of Huntingdon until moving to Lock Haven a few years
ago. He was born April 14, 1920, in Yeagertown, the son of Harry and
Pearl (Moyer) Fisher. He was never married. He is survived by his
brother, A. Paul Fisher of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by the
following half-brothers and half-sisters: Charles Fisher, Arthur Fisher,
Walter Fisher, Thomas Fisher, Margaret Miller and Nella Fisher. Mr.
Fisher was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Yeagertown
Volunteer Fire Company at one time. He was first employed at the Mount
Union Brickyard and later in the Kitchen at Juniata College, Huntingdon.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at the
Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon. Interment will be made in
Entriken Cemetery.

Richard "Max" BAER, 61, of HCR 61, Shade Gap, died at 11:05 p.m.
Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born Dec. 11, 1940, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Harvey N.
and Ruth P. (Snyder) Baer. He was married to Callista M. Goshorn June
22, 1963, at Shade Gap. Mrs. Baer survives at home. Four children
survive: Lisa J. Baer, Selingsgrove; Susan K. Gartland, Saltillo; Shelly
A. Keefer, St. Thomas; and David L. Baer, at home. Five grandchildren,
three step-grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter survive. A
brother, Nelson Baer of Mount Union, and a sister, Diane Anders, of
Mattawana, survive. Mr. Baer was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Shade Gap. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus,
Mount Union, and the Shade Gap Lions Club. He had owned and operated
Baer's Restaurant, Shade Gap, for several years. Prior to that he was
employed at Elco Corp., Huntingdon, and at one time was a Mount Union
Borough policeman. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
April 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap. with the Rev. George
Koharchik officiating. Interment will be made in the St. Mary's Catholic
Cemetery, Shade Gap.

Margaret J. (Neville) GRACEY, 74, of York, died Wednesday, April 10,
2002, at her home. Born May 18, 1927, in Huntingdon County, she was the
daughter of the late Morton O. and Margaret J. (Swope) Neville. She
married David R. Gracey who preceded her in death. Three sons and a
daughter survive: Richard Alan Gracey, York; Thomas Bryan Gracey,
Strinestown; Barry David Gracey, York; and Beth Joy Gracey, Spring
Grove. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive. She is
survived by three sisters and one brother: Helen Figard, Bedford; Mary
Brumbaugh, Saxton; Nellie Arcq, Robertsdale; and Nelson Neville,
Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gracey attended the
Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday,
April 12, at the John W. Keffer Funeral home, Inc., 2114 West Market
St., York, with the Rev. John Zoppi officiating. A committal service
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York. 

Leroy F. SIMMERS, 86, formerly of Fallentimber, and more recently of
Three Springs, died at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Woodland
Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where he had been residing. Born Sept. 30,
1914, in Fallentimber, he was the son of the late William F. and Dessie
M. (Price) Simmers. He was married to Marie Young Jan. 14, 1943 at Fort
Riley, Kan. Mrs. Simmers preceded in death Oct. 3, 1997. One daughter,
Helen A. Dean, Gearhart, Ore., survives, along with seven grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive, Geraldine C.
Carnahan of Fallentimber and Pearl E. McConnel of Patton. He was
preceded in death by an adopted son, Joseph Simmers; two brothers, John
and Herbert; and six sisters, Dessie Wasilko, Alice Fitzpatric, Caroline
Helbig, Anna Refner, Agnes Simmers and Margaret Simmers. Mr. Simmers was
a member of the Heritage Baptist Church, Three Springs. He was a member
of the Three Springs Senior Center and had retired from Sharon Steel,
Sharon. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Gary Caber officiating. Interment
will be made in Sherman's Valley Cemetery, Hopewell. 

Laura G. STEVENS, 96, a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the
Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, since October 2001, and
formerly of North Third Street, McConnellsburg, died at 2 a.m.
Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at the medical center. Born Nov. 20, 1905, in
Taylor twp., she was the daughter of the late William and Grace
(Barnett) Knepper. She was married to Leonard Chester Stevens Aug. 30,
1924. Mr. Stevens preceded in death March 1, 1978. Two daughters
survive, Grace Barton, McConnellsburg, and Helen Rice, Chambersburg.
Eleven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren survive. Two brothers and one sister survive:
Beatrice Walker of Harrisonville, Norman Knepper of Hustontown and
Wilmer Knepper of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by a son,
Charles William "Bill" Stevens Aug. 1, 1991; one sister, Mae
Berkstresser, and three brothers, Howard, Erman and Paul. Mrs. Stevens
was a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. She had
worked as a U.S. Postal Service clerk for 25 years at the Hustontown
Post Office. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14,
at the Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall, with the Rev. Donald
Bard officiating. Interment will be made in Centerview Cemetery.

Donald Leroy MORROW, 59, of 307 Cocoalamus Creek Road, Millerstown,
formerly of Mount Union, died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at
the Central Pennsylvania Hospice Residence, Linglestown Road,
Harrisburg, following an extended illness. Born Jan. 24, 1943, in
Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Donald Leroy and Bertha Jane
(Sechrist) Morrow. He was first married to Bonnie Hocker. His second
marriage was to Judy Uttley. His companion, Maxine Losch, survives at
their Millerstown residence. Five children survive: Mrs. Donald (Brenda)
Jaymes, Shirleysburg; Richard Duane Morrow, Oakland Mills; Donald Lee
Morrow, Newton Hamilton; Mrs. Charles (Jane) Varner, Newton Hamilton;
and Randy Morrow, McVeytown. Seventeen grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren survive. Three sisters and two brothers survive:
Mrs. Leland (Ella Grace) Moler, Homeland, Calif.; Mrs. George (June)
Varner, Mount Union; Joseph Morrow, Michigan; Mrs. Robert (Anna)
Collins, Huntingdon; and Kenneth Morrow, Walnut Creek, Calif. An infant
son preceded him in death. Mr. Morrow was of the Methodist faith. He
most recently worked as a truck driver for Fulkroad Construction,
McAlisterville, and prior to that, he worked many years for Bilger's
Contracting, Mount Union. He was an avid NASCAR fan and he loved truck
driving. Interment will be made in the Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery
at the convenience of the family. There will be no funeral service.

Verna K. MADILIA, 74, of 7 W. Walnut St., Mount Union, died at 11 a.m.
Thursday, April 11, 2002, at her home. Death was unexpected. Born Jan.
15, 1928, in Oliver Twp. Mifflin county, she was the daughter of Foster
E. and Jennie (Harman) Casner Hocker. She is survived by a sister,
Charlotte McConaughey of Mount Union, and by two half-sisters and a
half-brother: Jennie Contois of Shirleysburg, Margaret Hocker of Mount
Union, and Harold Hocker of Shirleysburg. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Luther Casner. Ms. Madilia was of the Methodist faith. She
retired from Bleyer Industries after 11 years of service and had
previously been employed for 10 years by the L. Grief Bros., Mfg. Co.,
Mount Union. She was a member of the Bricktown Senior Citizens. Private
funeral services will be held at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with the Rev. Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be made
in the Atkinsons Mills Cemetery.

M. Richard STEEL, 66, of 407 DeForrest Apartments in Huntingdon,
formerly of West Chester, Pa., died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at 6:59
p.m. at the Centre Community Hospital in State College following a brief
illness. Born March 15, 1936, in Huntingdon, he was the son of George A.
and Gertrude (Watkins) Sergeant Steel. Mr. Steel never married. Four
brothers and sisters survive: Esther Clark, Aston; Mary Hardy,
Alexandria; Leone Africa, Huntingdon; and Earl Steel, Allentown. He was
preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Louise White, Zorie
Jamison, Edwin Sergeant and John Sergeant. A number of nieces and
nephews also survive. Mr. Steel was employed by Parkway Drive Cleaners,
Inc., in West Chester, retiring Feb. 10, 1998. He had served in the U.S.
Air Force from 1953 to 1958, stationed at Scott Air Force Base in
Illinois, and McChord Air Force Base in Washington, and served an
additional four years in the Air Force Reserves. A private funeral
service will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Ramona M. "Mony" GAMBLE, 73, of 202 Means Hollow Road, Shippensburg,
died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Shade Gap, she was the daughter of the late
Walter T. and Jessie F. (Carlin) Bair. She married Ross E. Gamble. He
preceded in death April 14, 1985. She is survived by three sons and a
daughter: Thomas R. Gamble, Chambersburg; Timothy C. Gamble and Tracy L.
Gamble, both of Shippensburg; and Mrs. Larry (Teresa) Bowermaster,
Shippensburg. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. A
sister, Betty Gamble, survives in Hagerstown, Md. She was preceded in
death by three brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Gamble was of the
Protestant faith. Earlier in her life, she had worked at Diffy's Drive
In, Shippensburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
April 17, at the Fogelsanger-Bicker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg,
with the Rev. Ronald E. Dull officiating. Interment will be made in
Norland Cemetery. 

Ella Margaret HOOPER, 85, a resident of Valley View Nursing Home,
Altoona, formerly of Mapleton, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002,
at the nursing home. Born Jan. 30, 1917, in Mapleton, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and Sallie (McHugh) Shoop. She was united
in marriage to Chester L. Hooper Sr., July 5, 1937. He preceded her in
death May 6, 1999. Four children survive: John L. Hooper, Greensburg;
Ella J. Hooper, Altoona; Mrs. Dan (Sally A.) Branson, Pittsburgh; and
Chester L. Hooper Jr., Greensburg; as well as five grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers: Clyde Shoop
of Altoona and Ralph Shoop of California. She was preceded in death by
four brothers: Arthur, John, Charles and Wilfred Shoop. Mrs. Hooper was
of the Protestant faith. She was a graduate of Mount Union High School.
During her life, she was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services were
held a 11 a.m. Today, April 15, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home,
Mount Union, with the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment was made in
the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery. 

Irma R. MURPHY, 101, formerly of Huntingdon and the Altoona area, died
at 8:31 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon,
where she had resided for the past four years. Born July 19, 1900, in
Sproul, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton B. Shade.
She was married to Basil Murphy. He preceded her in death. A daughter,
Diana Troutman of Huntingdon, survives, as well as one granddaughter,
one great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, Angela June Murphy, two granddaughters, and two
sisters, Mabel and Wilmina. Mrs. Murphy was of the Lutheran faith.
During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. Private funeral
services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will
be made in the Leamersville Riverview Cemetery, East Freedom.

Dr. Albert J. MUR, 85, of 217 Booth St., Apt. 233, Gaithersburg, Md.,
formerly for Tucson, Ariz., for 32 years, and Huntingdon from 1993 to
2001, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, at the Washington
Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. He was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Penns
Grove, N.J., the son of Jacob and Rebecca (Mirskin) Mur, both deceased.
He was twice married, first to Florence Ruberstein, who preceded him in
death. He married Blanche (Zilius) Scholey May 14, 1992. She preceded
him in death June 25, 1998. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs.
Lawrence (Randee) Mur Dickey of Gaithersburg, Md., and Mrs. Roger
(Leslie) Tinker of Cameron Park, Calif., and one grandson. He was the
last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in
death by two brothers, Irving and Nathan, and two sisters, Harriet and
Natalie. Mr. Mur was, at one time, an active member of the Tucson,
Ariz., Lions Club. He was also a volunteer at the University of Arizona
Cancer Center, Tucson. He received his early education at the PS 177
Brooklyn School and later received his O.D. Degree from the Northern
Illinois College of Optometry. In 1960, he began practicing optometry in
Tucson and continued that practice until his retirement in 1984. In the
early 1940's, he managed and later was joint owner of the Huntingdon and
Pittsburgh Mur Jewelry Stores. He was a World War II veteran, having
served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations with the U.S. Army.
Especially dear to him were his family and friends. A graveside service
will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Riverview Cemetery,
Huntingdon, with Holly Mollo officiating.

Jeffery Allen WALKER, 42, of Three Springs, was pronounced dead at 1:52
a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, in Three Springs. He was born May 15,
1959, in Huntingdon, the son of Hayden and Patricia (Cummins) Walker. He
is survived by his parents of Three Springs, and his paternal
grandmother, Dolphene Walker of Three Springs. Three Children survive:
Tabitha Walker and Nicholas Walker of Shade Gap and Chloe Walker of
Huntingdon. A brother, Brian Walker of Three Springs, and a sister,
Melissa Scott of Virginia Beach, Va., survive. He was very fond of his
nieces and nephew. Mr. Walker attended Fairview Evangelical Church near
Three Springs. He was a 1977 graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High
School, where he played baseball and football. He also played baseball
and football. He also played on the Alumni Football Team and for the
Huntingdon County Baseball League. He was an avid pool shooter in
leagues in Broad Top and Southern Huntingdon County. He also enjoyed
hunting and fishing. Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Air Force, having
been stationed in Europe. He was a member of Madden-Wennick American
Legion Post 518, Orbisonia. Mr. Walker was employed as a lineman with
Designed Telecommunications of Salem Va. A funeral service will be held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home,
Orbisonia, with the Rev. William Hughes officiating. Interment will be
made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Twp. 

Luther Marlin SELLERS, 68, of 211 West Davis St., Mount Union, died at
11:20 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002, at the James E. VanZandt VA Medical
Center, Altoona. Born Feb. 17, 1934, in Mount Union, he was the son of
the late Orel T. and Bertha T. (Brady) Sellers. He married Ruth Carmack
Oct. 24, 1959, at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, with
the Rev. John T. Cummings officiating. Mr. Seller survives their home. A
son, Samuel Luke Sellers, of Mount Union, survives as well as a sister,
Elaine Lukens. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orel S. Sellers.
Mr. Sellers was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance
Church, 217 S. Washington St., Mount Union. He graduated from Captain
Jack High School, Class of 1953. He retired in 1992, after many years of
service as a spray booth painter with General Motors Corporation,
Wilmington, Del. He served as a medicial specialist with the United
States Army from Sept. 12, 1956, to Sept. 11, 1958. He was stationed
with Headquarters of the 10the AAA Missile Battalion at Fairchild Air
Force Base in Washington. He later served with the Pennsylvania Army
National Guard for a long number of years. A lifetime resident of Mount
Union, Mr. Sellers was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and
fishing. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20,
at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 217 S. Washington St.,
Mount Union, with the Rev. Stephen P. Motter officiating. Interment will
be made in Mount Union Cemetery with full military honors accorded at
graveside.

Dr. Marianne (Mierley) HANLON, 45, of Hollidaysburg, died Saturday,
April 13, 2002, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital in Altoona. Born
Jan. 28, 1957, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of John and Judith
(Rastella) Mierley, who reside at Oak Manor Farm, Huntingdon. She
married Bill Hanlon II at Our Lady of Victory Church, State College,
Sept. 4, 1982, and lived in the Phildadelphia suburbs, first in
Lansdowne and then in Morton. Mr. Hanlon survives at home. She is
survived by five children: Joshua Paul, William John, Joanna Maria,
Colleen Mary and John Harry, who survive at home. Dr. Hanlon was a
devout Catholic and an active member of the St. Michael The Archangel
Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg. With her husband, she was a member of
the Cursillo movement and Marriage Encounter. She was a member of the
Catholic Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a 1974 graduate
of Huntingdon Area High School. She entered Bryn Mawr College in 1974.
She participated in Field hockey and lacrosse, and was active in
founding the first Catholic students group at the college and leading
its liturgical music. In 1977 she was awarded the Elizabeth B.H. Johnson
Alumnae Scholarship. she received an A.B. in biology, cum laude, from
Bryn Mawr College in 1978. In July 1980, she received a master of health
science in health care administration and planning from Johns Hopkins
University School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore, Md. In
September 1980, she entered the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine in Philadelphia, where she received a National Health Service
Corps Scholarship. In May 1984, Marianne received her M.D. from the
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She received the Lemmon
Company Award for outstanding achievement in the field of
family practice. Mrs. Hanlon began her residency in family medicine at
the Medical Center of Delaware, Wilmington, Del, in July 1987. She
completed her residency in April 1988. In June of the same year, she
served in the National Health Service Corps, and shortly thereafter, was
named medical director of the Rainelle Medical Center in Rainelle, W.Va.
She served as assistant clinical professor of family medicine for the
West Virginia University Medical School and for the West Virginia School
of Osteopathic Medicine. She and her husband were lead field professors
for the Kellogg Community Partnership from 1992 to 1996. She was a
family physician with Mercy Health Services. In July 2001, her illness
obliged her to take medical leave. She loved to sing and play the
guitar, was active in church music groups and enjoyed hiking, camping,
swimming, gardening and crafts. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10
a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church,
301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg. Rite of committal will be held at
Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

Sharon E. SMITH, 54, of Huntingdon, R.R. 2, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday,
April 13, 2002, at the Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.Va.
Death was unexpected. Born Aug. 12, 1947, in Huntingdon, she was the
daughter of the late Philip and Frances (Gardner) Grove. She was married
to Brandy L. Smith Oct. 29, 1965, in Huntingdon, by the Rev. Charles
Cisney. Mr. Smith survives at their home. She is survived by a son and a
daughter, Michael L. Smith of Huntingdon, and Mrs. James (Pamela E.)
Wilson of Petersburg, as well as two grandchildren. Four brothers and
sisters survive: Margaret Ferrenberg, Phyllis Ferrenberg, Willis Grove
and Fred Grove, all of Huntingdon. Mrs. Smith was a member of the
Donation United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she served as
secretary to the administrative council. She was a 1965 graduate of
Huntingdon Area High School. During her lifetime she was primarily a
homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, baking and
birdwatching, especially hummingbirds. She was a loving grandmother and
a friend to many people. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, April 17, at the Donation United Methodist Church,
Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will
be made in Donation Cemetery, Huntingdon, R.R. 2. 

Elizabeth (O'Connor) Myers RAMBLER, 87, of Homer City, formerly of
Mapleton, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Beacon Ridge. She was born
July 29, 1914, in Mapleton, the daughter of Charles C. and Pearl (Neice)
O'Connor. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Ted Myers,
in 1969, and her second husband, Charles E. Rambler, in 1994. A
daughter, Mrs. James (Virginia "Ginny") Carruthers of Homer City, two
grandsons and four great-grandchildren survive. A sister, Virginia O.
Coldren, preceded her in death. Mrs. Rambler was a member of the Grace
United Methodist Church, Mapleton. A funeral service will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in
Homer City, with the Revs. Mindy Coates and Frank Torzok officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery.

Luella V. (Holland) FINK, 84, of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Ave.,
Huntingdon, formerly of Hesston, died at 12:55 p.m. Monday, April 15,
2002, at Huntingdon Manor. Born Feb. 4, 1918, in Huntingdon, she was the
daughter of the late Carey and Laura (Liveringhouse) Holland. she was
married to Samuel Blair Fink June 10, 1937, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Fink
preceded in death Dec. 28, 1989. A son and a daughter survive: James
Blair Fink, Hastings; and Mrs. David (Jean) Minsker, Schwenksville. Two
granddaughters and for great-grandchildren survive. She was the last
surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Fink attended the
Community Chapel of Hesston. She was educated in the Public schools of
Huntingdon. She retired in 1980 from the Juniata College Cleaning
Service. She enjoyed flowers and spending time with her grandchildren. A
private funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
Huntingdon, at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. James L.
Blair officiating. 

Evelyn W. ARNDT, 80, of Camp Hill, died at 10 p.m. Monday, April 15,
2002, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Sept. 16, 1921, in Shade
Gap, she was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Hannah (Vaughn)
Goshorn. She is survived by a son, Robert E. Arndt Jr. of Dallas, Texas,
and a daughter, Diane A. Reeser of Middletown. A grandson also survives.
The following brothers and sisters survive: Eugene Goshorn, Neelyton;
George Goshorn, Blairs Mills; Ruth Cook, Fayetteville; Hilda Hall, New
Cumberland; Mary Booher, Orbisonia; and Galen Goshorn, Neelyton. Ms.
Arndt retired from S.J. Grove and Sons, Inc., Mechanicsburg, as an
administrative assistant after 20 years of service. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Darrell Nicklow officiating.
Interment will be made in Shade Valley Cemetery, Blairs Mills, R.R. 

Peter J. MOGYOROSSY, 41, of 1058 N. 11th St., Reading, died Tuesday,
April 16, 2002, at his home. Death was unexpected. Born April 24, 1960,
in Harrisburg, he was the son of Steve A. and Rose "Papp" Mogyorossy. He
is survived by two daughters: Robin Mogyorossy and Mrs. Thomas S.
(Christina) Grazier III, both of Saxton. A granddaughter and a grandson
also survive. A sister and two brothers survive: Kathleen E.
(Mogyorossy) Robertson, Mechanicsburg; Steve Mogyorossy, College Park,
Ga.; and Joseph M. Mogyorossy, Reading. Mr. Mogyorossy was a 1979
graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School. He worked as a truck
driver for HR Guard Company in Reading for five years. He enjoyed
fishing, motorcycles and spending time with his children and
grandchildren. A private service was held in Reading, Wednesday, April
17. Interment on Saturday will be private.

Mary Catharine FOREMAN, 98, who had resided with her daughter at Mount
Union, R.R, 1, since 1991, died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at
the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been in failing
health for the past four weeks. Born Jan. 1, 1904, in Newton Hamilton,
she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo B. and Frances N. (Morrison)
Rogers. She is survived by one daughter, Janice I. Hancock, Mount Union,
eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 30
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Arlene D. Beatty, in 1957; a brother, Anderson Rodgers; and six sisters,
Henrietta Stein, Barbara Bard, Adeline Fleming, Isabel Morder, Caroline
Garver and Freeda Madden; and four brothers and sisters who died in
infancy. Mrs. Foreman was a member of the First United Methodist Church
and was the last living member of the former Longacre Sunday School
Class. She was a member of the former 20th Century Club (later known as
the Women's Association) and the Bricktown Senior Citizens. She had been
employed with L. Grief Bros. Mfg., Mount Union, for 26 years, retiring
in 1970. She loved to travel and read. Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with the Revs. Robert Davidson and Jennifer Deutsch officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Kimberly A. POWERS, 37, of Mountain Manor Court, Saxton, died at 8 p.m.
Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at her home following an extended illness. Born
Aug. 7, 1964, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Ralph Powers, of
Pawpaw. W.Va., and Sandra D. (Hall) Powers of Saxton. She is survived by
two sons: Matthew Scott Powers of Gaithersburg, Md., and Seth Powers
Miller of Saxton. One brother and four sisters survive: Randy Powers,
Broad Top City; Vickie Black, Saxton; Angela Becker, Hagerstown, Md.;
Karen Sue Powers, Riddlesburg; and Kathy Luke, Claysburg. Ms. Powers was
of the Protestant faith. She was a 1982 graduate of Tussey Mountain High
School She enjoyed doing various crafts, baking and making floral
arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19,
at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton. Interment will be made in
the Newburg Cemetery, James Creek, R.R. 1. 

Florence A. CIAMPA, 76, of 1415 Moore St., Huntingdon, died at 5:42 a.m.
Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at her home. She had been in her usual health
and her death was unexpected. Born Sept. 26, 1925, in McKeesport, she
was the daughter of the late George and Minnie M. (Greco) Petriella. She
was married to Joseph A. Ciampa April 20, 1948, in McKeesport. Mr.
Ciampa preceded her in death July 15, 1980. Two sons survive: Jeffrey
Ciampa of Warwick, N.Y., and Robert Ciampa of Huntingdon. Two
grandchildren survive. A brother Anthony Petriella of Floral Bark. N.Y.,
survives. Mrs. Ciampa was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic
Church in Huntingdon. She was a 1943 graduate of McKeesport High School
and graduated from the Business Training College in Pittsburgh in 1945.
She had served on the board of directors for The Salvation Army and
Meals on Wheels in Huntingdon. She had worked as an office manager for
her husband's Nationwide Insurance Agency in Huntingdon. A funeral Mass
will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Most Holy
Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David J. Arseneault
officiating. Committal will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery,
Huntingdon. 

Dawson Anthony RHODES, 4 months old, of 135 N. Walnut St., Burnham, died
at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at his home. Born Dec. 13, 2001,
he was the son of Devin Noella Rhodes of 135 N. Walnut St., Burnham and
Merrill W. Cramer of 345 Casner Lane, Lewistown. In addition to his
parents he is survived by a stepfather, Todd W. Rhodes, and a
stepmother, Tara J. Casner. Two sisters survive at home, Briana W. And
Tristin W. Rhodes. He is also survived by the following grandparents:
Sandra Coons and Todd Frymyer, Carlisle: Frank Varner Jr. and JoAnne
Glunt, Mount Union; Glenn Kibe, Milroy; and Merrill and Georgia Cramer,
Lewistown; and great-grandparents: Frank Sr. and Yvonne Varner, Mill
Creek; George and Betty Brown, Lewistown; and Lewis Grove of McVeytown.
He is survived by stepgrandparents, William and Katherine L. Rhodes of
McVeytown, and Step-great-grandmother, Beulah Aurand of Lewistown.
Private funeral services, under the direction of the Heller-Hoenstine
Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, will be held at the convenience
of the family with Pastor Mark Hill officiating. Interment will be
private.

J. Fred MARK, 79, who resided at 1020 Green Ave., Altoona, since 1998,
died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Altoona Hospital,
Altoona. Born March 15, 1923, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late
Fred B. and Anna Mae (White) Mark. He first married Mildred Jean Burns.
She preceded in death in January 1984. He is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. John B. (Ann) Hess of Logan Township, Altoona, and by five
grandchildren. Two stepchildren survive: Howard Paul and Shelly Paul,
both of Northumberland. A sister, Jane (Mark) Gillespie, survives in
Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay L. Mark. Mr.
Mark was of the Protestant faith. He attended the Huntingdon public
schools and was a 1940 graduate of Huntingdon High School. He was a
former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge
No. 976, Huntingdon, and the Randolph Springs Rod and Gun Club, Diamond
Valley, Huntingdon County. He retired from Winfred Homes in Harrisburg
in 1987. He had been previously employed as a district sales manager for
Hilti Fastening Systems of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II with
Headquarters Company, 395th Infantry Regiment and attained the rank of
Technician Fifth Grade. Mr. Mark served in the Rhindland, Ardennes and
Central Europe campaigns. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. A memorial
service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the John B. Brown
Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Carol L.
Rowe officiating.

Beatrice L. LINN, 81, a resident of Malta Home, Granville Twp., Mifflin
county, formerly of Kistler, died at 11:21 a.m. Wednesday, April 17,
2002, at the Lewistown Hospital. Her death was unexpected. Born May 11,
1920, in Olean, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ida
(Hartman) May. Her stepmother, Edna Rice, survives in Lynchburg, Va. She
was united in marriage to Clarence "Rusty" Linn July 8, 1942, in Towson,
Md. Mr. Linn preceded her death. Two sons survive: David R. Linn, Newton
Hamilton, and Terry W. Linn, Silverford Heights, Mount Union. Four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. A sister, Thelma
Myers of Dry Run survives, along with two stepsisters and a stepbrother:
Louise White, Lynchburg, Va.; JoAnn Bradford, Christianburg, Va.; and
Oscar May Jr. of Madison Heights, Va. An infant sister, Leah May,
preceded her in death. Mrs. Linn was a member of the Assembly of God
Church, Mount Union, where she was very active and served as missionary
secretary. She was a 1939 graduate of Mount Union High School. She was a
past member of the former Kistler Fire Co. Auxiliary and was active in
the Atkinsons Mills Senior Citizens. She had worked for a number of
years at L. Greif Bros. Mfg., Mount Union. Mrs. Linn also enjoyed
sewing. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002,
at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Gordon
Ross officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery.

Edward B. Houck, 72, of 2081 Apple Way Road, St. Thomas, died Wednesday,
April 17, 2002, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro. Born Sept. 29, 1929,
in Tyrone, he was the son of the late William B. and Anne E. (Carper)
Houck. He married Jean McCue June 15, 1952, in Dudley. Mrs. Houck
survives at home. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, William
Houck of St. Thomas, James Houck of Williamson, Mrs, Paul (Sharon)
Emerick of Edenville and Mrs. Duane (Janice) Statler of Edenville. A
grandson, Allan Bookwalter of Edenville, who was reared in the home
since the death of his mother, survives, as do eight additional
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, Walter Houck of
Huntingdon, and three sisters: Betty Williams of Altoona, Laura Swope of
Three Springs and Dora Benson of Waterfall, survive. He was preceded in
death by two daughters, Janet Houck in 1991, and Barbara Bookwalter in
1994. A sister, Doris Drenning, also preceded him in death. Mr. Houck
was a member of the Edenville United Methodist Church, Edenville, where
he served as an usher and was a former church trustee. He was a member
of the Edenville Communtiy Ruritan Club. of which he served as a past
president. He had served as Governor of Zone 7 Ruritan Clubs in 1986 and
1987, and he received the Tom Downing Award in 1987. For many years he
cooked the Shanty Beans at the community dinners at Edenville. He was a
member of the Edenville Water Association, director and past president
of the Edenville Community Center, and a charter member of the St.
Thomas Fire Company. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1985,
having worked as a packer in general supplies for 25 years and retiring
in a supervisory position. Since then, he had worked part time for E.C.
Barnes, Inc., Appleway Orchards, Greencastle Greens, Olsona and Olson
Brothers Machine Company and Mason Dixon Auto Auction. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army, having served as a NCO at Fort Knox, Ky.,
and served in the UM Experimental Unit at Fort Dix, N.J. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at the
Edenville United Methodist Church, Edenville, with the Rev. John Rauhut
officiating. Interment will be made in Edenville Methodist Cemetery,
Edenville. 

David A. BARBER, 42, of 6737 Raystown Road, Hopewell, died at 10:50 p.m.
Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital,
Altoona, following an extended illness. Born April 30, 1959, in Bedford,
he was the son of Harold and Fayetta (Wright) Barber, who survive in Six
Mile Run. He was united in marriage to Patti Haught July 5, 1995, in
Hopewell. Mrs. Barber survives at their home. Two daughters survive:
Stephanie Barber of Martinsburg and Danielle Barber of Portage. Two
grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Billie Jo Barber, preceded in
death. Five sisters survive: Cindy Drenning, Saxton; Brenda Simpson,
Hopewell; Sharon McDowell, Saxton; Emily Szielga, Martinsburg; and Amy
Isenburg, Huntingdon. Mr. Barber was a member of the Six Mile Run Church
of God. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He had worked
for eight years at Seton in Saxton and for a number of years at Cove
Shoe Factory in Martinsburg. He also was an electrician on various
construction sites. He enjoyed hunting and repairing vehicles. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Six Mile Run
Church of God, Six Mile Run, with Pastor Stanley Cordell officiating.
Interment will be made in Duvall Cemetery, Six Mile Run. 

William "Andy" Wilson, 75, of the village of Walnut, HCR 67, Mifflin,
died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital,
Lewistown. Born July 30, 1926, in Hawstone, Mifflin County, he was the
son of the late Blain A. and Goldie E. (Musser) Wilson. He married
Marian J. Miller April 30, 1949. Mrs. Wilson survives at their home. Two
daughters and three sons survive: Mrs. William (Betty) Isenberg, Port
Royal; Mrs. Fred (Deb) Swartz, Huntingdon; Robert A. Wilson,
Shermansdale; Richard L. Wilson, Mifflintown; and Alan E. Wilson, at
home. Thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive. He
is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Frank (Mary ) Haubert, Millerstown, and
Betty Bender, Millerstown. He was preceded in death by three daughters
and a son: Dorothy Mae Kint, Susan K. Wilson, Carol Ruth Wilson and
James Franklin Wilson, and by five granddaughters. Mr. Wilson was a
retired LPN with 28 1/2 years of service working for the Harrisburg
State Hospital, Harrisburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday, April 22, at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. M.
Eugene Heidler officiating. Interment will be made in New Church Hill
Cemetery, Port Royal. 

Harry A. POWELL, 86, a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home,
formerly of Huntingdon, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Altoona
Hospital, Altoona, following an extended illness. Born April 9, 1916, in
Huntingdon, he was the son of the late George E. and Attie (Morrison)
Powell. He married Lois E. Slippey, who preceded him in death. He is
survived by two sisters and one brother, Kathryn A. Garner, Hazel E.
Lemin and John B. Powell, all of Huntingdon, as well as several nieces
and nephews. Two brothers, David and Samuel, preceded him in death. Mr.
Powell was of the Protestant faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
having served in World War II. Interment was made in the Presbyterian
Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. 

Miriam E. (Shultz) REIHART, 80, of 34 Kindred Place, Annville, died
Thursday, April 18, 2002, at her home. Born Sept. 9, 1921, in
Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Esther
(Henderson) Shultz. She married the Rev. Byron E. Reihart, who survives.
They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this November.
She is also survived by a son, Randall R. Reihart, of Ontario, Canada,
and daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sally R.) Humphrey of Rockport, Ill.; Mrs.
Gerald (Becky R.) Kuhn of Laurel, Md.; Mrs. Daniel (Kathy R.) Blass of
Vancouver, Wash.; Mrs. Timothy (Betsy R.) Kirkpatrick of Albrightsville;
and Mrs. Thomas (Patsy G.) Bradley of Lebanon. Twenty-one Grandchildren
and 23 great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by a son,
Walter M. Reihart. Mrs. Reihart was a member of the Red Hill Church of
God, Newport. Along with her husband, she was a missionary in Venezuela
and Panama from 1947-1973, and when they returned to the states her
husband pastored a number of Church of God churches in Central
Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22,
at the Walnut Grove Church of God, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Dr. John S.
Hodge officiating. Interment will be made in the Walnut Grove Church of
God Cemetery. 

Cealia K. (Sones) WELLER, 72, of 372 Flat Rock Rd., Port Matilda, died
at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Philipsburg Area Hospital.
Born Sept. 5, 1929, in Bald Eagle, she was the daughter of William
Leroy"Roy" and S. Jane (Wagner) Sones. She was united in marriage to
Leonard "Penny" Weller, Aug. 5, 1947, at the Port Matilda United
Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Judy
Weller of Huntingdon and Karen S. Weller Myers of Annville. Also
surviving are three sisters: Joann Sones of Huntingdon, Adaline
Daugherty of State College and Frances Fuller of Hobe Sound, Fla., and
four brothers: Earl and George Sones of Port Matilda, Calvin Sones of
Independence, Kan., and Fred Sones of Silver Springs, Md. Mrs. Weller
was of the Methodist faith. She retired in 1990, from K-Mart in State
College, where she worked as a sales associated at the service desk for
17 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, at
the Feller Memorial Home, 817 W. 15th St., Tyrone, with the Rev.
Patricia Gable officiating. Interment will be made in the Port Matilda
Presbyterian Cemetery.

Frances M. COOPER, 94, formerly of Minersville, died Friday, April 19,
2002, at the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown. Mrs. Cooper was born Aug. 28,
1907, in the Ukraine, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Maliniak)
Shimsky. She was married to Peter Cooper who preceded in death. She is
survived by two sons, John Cooper, Lancaster; and Melvin Cooper,
Huntingdon. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. A
daughter, Catherine Smith, preceded in death. Two brothers and four
sisters survive: Stephan Shimsky, Dingmans Ferry; Michael Shimsky, New
Jersey; Anna Mantzel, Charlotte, N.C.; Julia Stone, Brocton, Mass.; Mary
Diagneau, Florida; and Rose Bianchi, Florida. Five brothers preceded in
death, Theodore, Charles, Peter, Nicholas, and John Shimsky. Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Mahal-Ritzel
Funeral Home, Minersville, followed by a Requiem Divine Liturgy at Saint
Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Michael

Joy E. BOOKHEIMER, 59, of 200 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, died
following a brief illness, at 5:53 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at
Huntingdon, where she had been a patient for the past three days. Born
Feb. 18, 1943, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Norman and
Charlotte (Sunderland) Sheeler. She is survived by her husband, Richard
C. Bookheimer, whom she married in April 1986. Her first husband, Lewis
D. Marshall, whom she married Dec. 22, 1974, preceded her in death Nov.
26, 1984. A stepson, Kenneth L. Marshall of Florida, and two
step-grandchildren survive. She is also survived by two brothers: Lloyd
Sheeler of Newton Hamilton and Elwood Sheeler of Elizabethtown. One
brother, Earl Sheeler, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bookheimer attended
the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Mount Union. She was a
graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1960. She was formerly
employed at Bleyer Industries, Dallco Mfg., and Robin Footwear, all in
Mount Union. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April
23, 2002, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the
Revs. Steven Motter and Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will be made
in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg.

Thelma Celesta (Corbin) BROWN, 84, of 419 Church St., Huntingdon, died
at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. Born Nov. 5, 1917, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of
the late Walter Samuel and Cora George (Johnson) Corbin. She was united
in marriage to William Howard Brown Sr. Aug. 13, 1935, in Huntingdon.
Mr. Brown preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1981. She is survived by four
sons: Donald L. Brown, LaHabra, Calif.; L. Howard Brown, Bellflower,
Calif.; William H. Brown Jr., Huntingdon; and Walter E. Brown, Mobile,
Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a brother, Henry Bernard Corbin. Mrs. Brown was a member of the
St. John's Episcopal Church, Huntingdon. She attended the Huntingdon
public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1935. She
was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the Frank P. Hommon Post 24,
American Legion and Standing Stone Post 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
both in Huntingdon. She retired due to disability from Weis Market's
meat department after 25 years of service. She enjoyed spending time
with her family and visiting, talking, loving and playing with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at
noon Saturday, April 27, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. 417
Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edward S. Gobrecht
officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing
Stone Ave., Huntingdon. 

Violet E. BROWER, 83, of Riverside Drive, Alexandria, died at noon
Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Tyrone Hospital, Tyrone. Born Feb. 23, 1919,
in McClure, she was the daughter of the late Bruce I. and Mary M.
(Baker) Gramley. She married Glenn H. Brower. He preceded her in death
Dec. 10, 2000. She is survived by four children: Bruce H. Brower,
Hollidaysburg; Jane E. Lysinger, Portage; Joy B. Hall, Alexandria; and
Burl E. Brower, Atlanta, Ga. Nine grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren survive. A sister, Mae Zerbe, survives in Fort
Lauderdale, Fla. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Brower was a member of the First United Methodist Church,
Lewistown, where she belonged to the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and
the Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the First United Methodist
Church, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. She held memberships in the Pelican
Piecemakers. New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and the Embroiderers Guild of
America, in both the New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and the Huntingdon
chapters. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the
Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with
the Rev. Charles Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will be made in the
Union cemetery, McClure.

Bursie WOOMER, 72, of Broad Top, died at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, April 21,
2002, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, following a
brief illness. Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Broad Top, he was the son of the
late Bursie J. and Margaret (Armstrong) Woomer. His companion of 25
years, Beverly Ann Brown, survives. He was the last surviving member of
his immediate family, being preceded in death by four sisters and two
brothers: Gwendolyn Wagner, Rovetta "Betts" Bollinger, Louanna Foore,
Rovonna Woomer, Orvis D. "Tom" Woomer and Kenneth E. Woomer. Mr. Woomer
was of the Protestant faith. He was a graduate of Robertsdale High
School, Class of 1948. He worked as a laborer in the mines and on road
construction. He held memberships in the Broad Top Sportsman Association
and the American Legion, Watson and Black Post No. 126, in Broad Top. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a private in the Korean
Conflict. He was an avid hunter and reader. He enjoyed the Pittsburgh
Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top,
with the Rev. Henry Theys officiating. Interment will be made in the
Broad Top IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top.

Winifred MILLER, 92, formerly of 123A Oak Lane, Mount Union, and prior
to that of Huntingdon, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002, at
Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where she had resided for the past two
months. Born Oct. 6, 1909, in Manor Hill, she was the daughter of the
late Oliver and Clair (Ramsey) Harman. She was married to Bruce C.
Miller Sr. Dec. 2, 1936, in Huntingdon, by the Rev. Statler. Mr. Miller
preceded her in death Jan. 22, 1993. She is survived by four daughters
and two sons: Barbara Baker, East Waterford; Bruce C. Miller Jr.,
Huntingdon; Pearl Devor, Mifflin; Dorothy Bonsell, Huntingdon; Jane
Walker, Mount Union; Robert Miller, McConnellstown; and Louella Miller,
Huntingdon. Twenty-five grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren also survive. A brother, George Harman,
survives in Thompsontown. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a
brother, Kathryn Hawn, Mabel Kratzer and Robert Harman, and by two
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller was of the
Protestant faith. She had worked in the kitchen at Juniata College at
one time and was a cook at the Huntingdon county Jail. She had baked
pies for Simpson's Restaurant and Lloyd's Delicatessen in Huntingdon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the
Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Georgetta
"Cookie" Hartley officiating. Interment will be made in Manor Hill
Cemetery, Huntingdon.

Steve RAMPLER JR., 85, of HCR 1, Todd, died at 8:29 a.m. Monday, April
22, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born Oct. 18, 1916, at
Robertsdale, he was the son of the late Steve Sr. and Anna (Maddar)
Ramper. He is survived by a daughter and a son, Veronica Ramper of Camp
Hill and Lanny Ramper of Blairsville. Three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren also survive. Five sisters also survive: Anna
Schrenkel and Margaret Ramper, both of Huntingdon; Pauline Murray, Broad
Top; Helen Connor and Agnes Conese, both of Huntingdon. A brother and a
sister, John Rampler and Sue Carcione, are deceased. Mr. Ramper was of
the Protestant faith. He was a former Todd Twp. supervisor and had also
served as a deputy game warden at one time. During his lifetime, he was
a coal miner and a farmer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, April 25, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville,
with the Rev. James S. Thomas officiating. Interment will be made in
Newburg Cemetery, James Creek.

Mildred E. "Aunt Sis" LOWERY, 84, of York, died at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday,
April 23, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, York. Born May 29, 1917, in Three
Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Rhoda E. (Rupert)
Benson. she was married to William H. Lowery, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter. Gladys M. Conrad of York, and by four
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister also
survive: Edgar Benson, Three Springs; Franklin "Bud" Benson, Waterfall;
and Maxine Neville, Manchester. She was preceded in death by a brother
and two sisters, Donald Benson, Three Springs; Dorothy Fix, Houstontown;
and LaVerne "Bernie" Whitsel, Cleveland, Ohio. She was retired as a
supervisor for the McCrory's Warehouse. Funeral services will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the William E. Little Funeral Home, Inc.,
60 South Main St., Manchester, with the Rev. Matthew D. Jarrell, pastor
of Old Paths Baptist Church, Spring Grove, officiating. Interment will
be made in Manchester Lutheran Cemetery.

Margaret M. (Filer) FEATHER, 89, of Bedford, Va., died April 24, 2002,
in Bedford, Va. Born July 21, 1912, in Altoona, she was the daughter of
the late William B. English and Blanche I. Filer. She married Melvin J.
Feather Dec. 25, 1935, at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Altoona.
Mr. Feather preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1957. She is survived by
two daughters; Mrs. W. Russell (Carol M.) Hurley of Bedford, Va. and
Mrs. G. Donald (Joann M.) Weber of Villa Park, Calif. Six grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by a
sister, Emma Miller, and a brother, Dr. James B. English. Mrs. Feather
was a graduate of Altoona High School and the Altoona Hospital School of
Nursing. She had resided in Altoona in the early 1940s and moved to
Alexandria in 1946, then to Huntingdon in 1959, where she resided until
1986. She was employed as a registered nurse at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital. In 1986, she moved to California with her family and later to
Virginia with her daughter, Carol. A graveside service will be held at
11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002, at the Alexandria Presbyterian
Cemetery, Alexandria, with the Rev. Dr. John Winter officiating.


Max P. REEDER, 86, of 318 S. Shaver St., Mount Union, died at 12:10 p.m.
Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia.
Born Dec. 28, 1915, in Mount Union, he was the son Bruce W. and Mary
(Peightal) Reeder. He married Lillian Shafer Jan. 16, 1943, in
Clarksville, Tenn. Mrs. Reeder preceded him in death Dec. 10, 1967. He
is survived by two children. Harvey B. Reeder and Mary Margaret "Peggy"
Reeder, both of Mount Union. One granddaughter and one
great-granddaughter. A brother and a sister also survive: Pauline R.
Saulen and Glenn L. Reeder, both of Mount Union. Mr. Reeder was a member
of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where he was a member
of the Herman Smith Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Mount
Union High School, Class of 1933 and Pennsylvania State College (now
Penn State), in 1937, with a bachelor's degree in commerce and finance.
While at college, he was a member of the Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity, and
after graduation, he became a member of the PSU Alumni Association and
the Nittany Lion Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served
with the 12th Armored Division during World War II in the European
Theatre of Operations. He began working for his father in 1937 and later
became a partner, along with his brother, of B.W. Reeder Hardware of
Mount Union, and remained there until its closing. Mr. Reeder was a past
president and the last surviving charter member of the Mount Union Lions
Club, where he also served as parade marshal for many years; A life
member of BPOE, Chapter 976, Huntingdon; a member of the VFW Post 5754,
Mount Union; the American Legion, Post 107, Mount Union; member and past
chairman of the board of directors of the Huntingdon County United Way;
a member and past president of the board of directors of the American
Legion Memorial Home Association; a member and past president of the
Mount Union Borough Council for 20 years; a member and past
chairman of the Mount Union Municipal Authority; Chairman of the former
Mount Union Redevelopment Authority; and a member and chairman of the
board of directors of the Mount Union Area Development, Inc., which
later merged with the Huntingdon Business and Industry and became HCB &
I, Inc. His Masonic affiliations, included the F&AM Lodge No. 688, Mount
Union; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and the Harrisburg Consistory. A
memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the
First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert
Davidson officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union
Cemetery. 

Marjorie W. JOHNSTON, 94, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360
Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, and formerly of 1631 Mifflin St.,
Huntingdon, for over 20 years, died at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, April 25,
2002, at The Oaks. She had been in failing health for the last seven
months. Born Oct. 10, 1907, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late D. Elliott and Bessie (Woods) Johnston. She was the last surviving
member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two
brothers and a sister: Harold S. Johnston, Ned Johnston and Mrs. David
(Jean) Gillam. Miss Johnston was a member of the St. James Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was educated in the public schools of
Huntingdon and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of
1924. She retired from Juniata College as assistant to the Dean of
Academic Affairs following 27 years of service. She enjoyed animals,
especially dogs, and she also enjoyed reading and working crossword
puzzles. At the request of the family there will be no public viewing or
visitation. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing
Stone Ave., Huntingdon. 

Della Naomi GRACE, 93, of Hopewell, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, April
25, 2002, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona, following an
extended illness. Born Nov. 14, 1908, in Defiance, she was the daughter
of the late Charles E. and Mazura (Graffious) Grace. She was the last
surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death
by three sisters and two brothers: Ruth LaRue Grace, Virginia Dell, Alma
Hale, Eugene Grace and Lloyd Grace. Miss Grace was a member of the
Altoona Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was a literature
evangelist for 26 years. She was a graduate of Replogle High School,
Class of 1929. She enjoyed sewing, reading, walking and caring for
others. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the
D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Donald Ehrilich and
Brother Wilbur Atwood officiating. Interment will be made in Yellow
Creek Reformed Cemetery, Hopewell. 

Angel Marie BOOKHEIMER, daughter of Archie Stake of Newburg and Debra
Bookheimer of Hustontown, was stillborn Thursday, April 25, 2002, at
Chambersburg Hospital. She is survived by her maternal grandparents,
Bruce and Mary Mae Bookheimer of Hustontown, and her maternal
great-grandmother, Helen B. Strait of Orbisonia. Two sisters and one
brother survive, Tiffany, Amber and Matthew Bookheimer, all of
Hustontown. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April
27, at Hustontown Cemetery, Hustontown, with the Rev. Chris Elliott
officiating. 

Mary "Buckwheat" BUSH, 81, of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Ave.,
Huntingdon, and formerly of 900 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 11:28
p.m. Friday, April 26, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, following an extended
illness. Born July 31, 1920, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late John and Florence Pearl (Wise) Wolfe. She is survived by four sons:
Terrance J. Barnhart of Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon; Richard F. Barnhart
of Union Twp.; Donald L. Barnhart and John J. Ellis, both of Huntingdon.
Eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive, as do
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a
brother, Minerva Moser of Altoona, and John W. Wolfe Sr. of Huntingdon.
Ms. Bush was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of the Women of
the Moose Lodge No. 220, Huntingdon, and the Auxiliary to the Standing
Stone Post No. 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars. She had been educated in
the public schools of Huntingdon, having graduated from Huntingdon High
School with the Class of 1938. She was retired, having worked in the
Huntingdon area most of her life. She had been the manager of the Loyal
Order of Moose Lodge No. 223, Huntingdon, and also was a waitress and
bartender in numerous local establishments. She was active seamstress
and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the Moose,
playing cards and card games. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, May 1, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417
Washington St., Huntingdon, with Pastor Dan Mansberger officiating.
Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Standing Stone Ave.,
Huntingdon.

Gerald W. "Jerry" COFFMAN, 89, of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia,
died at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the retirement center. Born
April 12, 1913, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Guy C. and
Gertrude (Titler) Coffman. He is survived by a sister, Thelma (Coffman)
Miller, of Belleville. Mr. Coffman was a member of the Stone Church of
the Brethren, Huntingdon. He was educated in the public schools of
Huntingdon. He was a machinist by trade and worked at Gerlock's Machine
Shop for many years. He had also spent a few years working on the
Pennsylvania Railroad. A private graveside funeral service at Riverview
Cemetery, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David Dearing officiating, will be
held at the convenience of the family.

Fred A. "Bud" LAIRD, 91, a resident of Orbisonia for the past 30 years
and formerly of Aliquippa and New Sewickley Twp., died Saturday, April
27, 2002, in Friendship Ridge, Brighton Twp. Born Feb 12, 1911, in "Love
Valley." Cromwell Twp., he was the son of the late Joseph and Grace
(Duffy) Laird. Sixty-eight years ago, he married Helen Devlin, who
survives. He is survived by a son and three daughters: Ronald Laird of
Rochester; Mrs. Lee (Pat) Waple, Harrisburg; Mrs. Sam (Diane) Benedict,
Brighton Twp; and Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Seger, Aliquippa. Seventeen
grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Shirley Green in 1991, and by a grandson, Shawn Laird. A brother and a
sister also preceded him in death: Charles Laird and Martha Laird. Mr.
Laird was of the Catholic faith. He was an employee of the East Broad
Top Railroad boiler shop in Orbisonia, but later retired from J&L Steel
in Alquippa after 30 years of service. Private graveside services will
be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in Orbisonia Cemetery. 

Sara M. HOLLINGER, 69, of 10956 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, died at
3:28 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, in the home of her daughter at 902
Williamson Road, Greencastle. She had been ill for the past 16 months.
Born Oct. 24, 1932, in Saxton, she was the daughter of the late Milton
and Hannah (Weaver) Reed. She was married to H. Dean Hollinger Sept. 6,
1950, in Saxton. Mr. Hollinger survives. She is survived by a son and
two daughters: David Dean Hollinger of Cody, Wyo.; Mrs. Richard (Lois
E.) Gingerich and Mrs. Mervin (Deborah S.) Hock, both of Greencastle.
Eight grandchildren also survive. A sister and a brother survive:
Priscilla Masood of Frederick, Md., and Joel G. Reed of Saxton. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Donald Reed. Mrs.
Hollinger was a member of the Antrim Brethren in Christ Church near
Chambersburg and had attended Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church near
Mercersburg. She had worked 14 years at the former Stanley Co. in
Chambersburg. She also worked at Sunnyway Diner and the former Oaks
Motel, both in Greencastle. She was last employed in home care nursing.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, at the Antrim
Brethren in Christ Church, 24 E. Kauffman Road, Chambersburg, with the
Revs. Ky R. Searcy and Dennis L. Ritchey officiating. Interment will be
made in Spring Grove Cemetery in Lemasters.

Weber will be held at 1 pm. Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Alexandria
Presbyterian Cemetery. The Rev. John C. Dean will officiate the services
for friends and family. Weber died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at her Lehigh
Acres, Fla. residence. She was 86. 

Allen Eugene STAINS, 42, of HCR 71, Orbisonia, died at 7:33 p.m. Sunday,
April 28, 2002, at Conemaugh Regional Medical Center, Johnstown. Born
July 5, 1959, in Lewistown, he was the son of Cloyd and Barbara (Dell)
Stains. His parents survive at HCR 73, Three Springs. His companion of
seven years, Cynthia Fogal, also survives at their home. Two sons,
Bradley and Loren Stains, survive in McConnellsburg. Two brothers also
survive: Rex Stains and Brian Stains, both of HCR 73, Three Springs. Mr.
Stains was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the
Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion, Orbisonia, and the Allegheny
Mini Tractor Pullers Association. He was a 1979 graduate of Southern
Huntingdon County High School, Three Springs. He had been employed for
19 years at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, as a machine operator until
1997. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the
Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Bonnie Ort
officiating. Interment will be made in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Three
Springs.

Ruth Eleanor (Isenberg) WEBER, 86, of 400 West Oregon Road, Lehigh
Acres, Fla., died at 5:18 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002, at her Florida
residence. She had been a resident at her current home since 1976. Prior
to moving to Florida, she had resided in Runnemede, N.J. Born Sept. 9,
1915, in Alexandria, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Cross and
Bertha Maude (Henney) Isenberg. She was twice married, first to James
McGregor and second to Albert Weber. Both husbands preceded her in
death. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the last
surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death
by a sister and four brothers: Alice Elizabeth (Freeman) Isenberg, and
Guy, Alfred, Carl and Roy M. Isenberg. Mrs. Weber was of the Baptist
Faith. She was a graduate of the Alexandria High School, Class of 1933,
and graduated from J.C. Blair Hospital School of Nursing as a registered
nurse. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was active in senior
citizens clubs in her Florida community. She had been employed as a
baker in her second husband's bakery in Runnemede, N.J. Private funeral
services will be held at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley
Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria. Interment will be made in Alexandria
Presbyterian Cemetery.

Paul J. PEOPLES, 78, of 708 Portland Ave., Huntingdon, died at 10:24
a.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at J.C, Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Aliquippa, he was the son of the
late John and Hazel (Hall) Peoples. He married Arlene Hartman May 20,
1950 at the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, with Dr.
Hobart McKeehan officiating. Mrs. Peoples survives at their home. He is
survived by a son, Stephen J. Peoples of Fort Wayne, Ind., and by four
grandchildren. Five sisters also survive: Gertrude Gibboney, Ennisville;
June Rudy, Petersburg; Phyllis Dixon and Henrietta Hawn, both of
Huntingdon; and Helen Wilson of North Carolina. He was preceded in death
by a son, Daniel Hartman Peoples, June 8, 1979. Two sisters and two
brothers preceded him in death: John Peoples, Kenneth Peoples, Jane
Dixon and Emma Christianson. Mr. Peoples was a member of the Abbey
Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, where he had previously
served as an elder of the church. He was a former member of the Stone
Creek Valley Lions Club; a board member of the American Red Cross; a
board member of the Easter Seals Society; past president of the
Huntingdon Little League; past president of the Huntingdon Humane
Society; and a member of the Huntingdon Shade Tree Commission, where he
planted between 1,200 and 1,500 trees in the borough. He served as the
Huntingdon per capita tax assessor and was a member of the Frank P.
Hommon Post 24, American Legion and the Standing Stone Post 1754,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Huntingdon. He was also a member of
the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 976, Huntingdon.
He was a graduate of the Stone Valley Academy, McAlevys Fort and
attended Juniata College following his discharge from the U.S. Army. He
was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 28th Division,
119th Field Artillery, in the European Theatre of Operations, attaining
the rank of corporal. He received the Bronze Star for heroism
and the Army's Good Conduct Medal. He retired as a vice president of
UNitas Bank in 1988 with over 25 years of service. Following his
retirement, he worked in sales on a part time basis for Central
Distributors of Tyrone. Mr. Peoples enjoyed working around the house,
bird hunting, traveling and meeting and talking with people. A memorial
service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Abbey Reformed
United Church of Christ, Sixth and Church Streets, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview
Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon. 

Darrick John DIXON, 37, of 39 South Ninth Sts., Reading, formerly of
Huntingdon, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 15, 1964, he was the son of John W. and Donna M. (Powell)
Dixon of Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a
brother and a sister, Bret P. Dixon, stationed in Japan with the U.S.
Air Force, and Candy S. Dixon, Huntingdon. Mr. Dixon had attended
Huntingdon Area schools and received his GED in Pittsburgh. Private
funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Phyllis J. CONPROPST, 76, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of
Huntingdon, died Monday, April 29, 2002. She was the widow of Robert L.
Conpropst Jr. Interment and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m.
Friday, May 10, at the Juniata Memorial Park, Mausoleum Chapel, 9010
U.S. Hwy. 522 south, Lewistown.
