JOHN S. CARLING
Of 1506 Logan avenue, Tyrone, a retired freight conductor on the old Tyrone
division of the Pennsylvania railroad, died this morning at 6 o'clock at his
home after a two-year illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1861, at Waterside, Bedford
county, a son of Stephen and Mary (Feighter) Carling, and was married in Tyrone
to Mary Sullivan, who preceded him in death in January, 1924. Surviving are
these children: John F., William, Mrs. Mary Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Francis
O'Rourke, all of Tyrone, Augustus of Northwood and Mrs. Irvin Cunningham of
Lewistown; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Carling was a
member of St. Matthew's Catholic church, lodge 212 B. P. O. Elks, Blazing Arrow
Hook and Ladder company and for many years, was local chairman of the Order of
Railway Conductors. He retired in 1933 after 52 years' service with the
railroad. Friends will be received at the Graham & Getz funeral home after 7
o'clock tomorrow evening.
