Herman Michel  re the Civil War

Herman was born in Germany, according to the 1870 census report. He lived 
with his family in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Oh on 2515 Chatham Street. 
His wife Katharine age 36, born in "Swiss."  Son Alois age 20 born in Ohio
Daughter Caroline age 19, born in Ohio, Daughter Helene age 10 born Ohio. 
This is listed M240 , vol 14 section 34, line 44. It  is known that 
Appolina was his first wife and mother of the children.

Parents Alois Michel born 1817 and Agatha Seigrest, Baden Germany

Herman volunteered for the Civil Ward, his gun from the war, rifle 1864
Watertown, has been preserved. In 1998 it is in the possession of Robert
(Herman's Great Grandson it will be passed down to his son )

Herman served for 4 months in the war from 02/22/1865 to 06/17/1865 He was
Union solider and enlisted. He was in the 192nd Regiment in Ohio. Entered in
Sandusky Oh March 03 1885. Enlisted March 25. He was An ironworker. He had
hazel eyes, dark hair light complexion 5" 4" tall. He was iron worker  for 
the Heron Compny19 sub district 9 dist o. He volunteered for the infantry. He was paid $100. He was assigned NorwalkTwp Huron Co. 9th dist Ohio. Value of
clothing $24.64

cot setups 11... also stated entitled to bounty

He lived with his wife Katharina at 2515 Chatham, off W 25th Street, in 1996
there is not a house at the site,  Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in 1833 and
died 09/08/1907. This information was taken of National Archives of Veterans
recorders. Volunteer of Enlistment 188th regiment.  It appears he paid $66 
for the rifle. Copies of these records are in the family files held in 1998 by Susan Ward

Died at the age of 74, Katharine died age of 40

Agatha and Appolonia and Herman Michel are buried in St. Mary's Cementary,
2677 W 41St Street Cleveland OH (41st & Clark) Holy Cross Church has burial
records phone 216 267 2850 Grave location Section c lot 35 south, grave 3
Herman, grave 2 Katharina

According to the 1880 census, Herman was listed as a watch maker Louise as
keeping house. Alois as a cigar maker as 20, Caroline 19, Helene 11, wife 36
