MRS. EVA DAVIS HAS GONE TO REST
Died, at an Atlanta hospital, Saturday, June 30th, 1928, Mrs. Eva Davis
aged 33.
Her husband lost his life in the World’s War leaving her with one boy to
mourn his going away.
She is survived by her son, Baxter Davis; her mother and father, Mr. and
Mrs. S. B. Kimbell; one brother, Mr. Dean Kimbell; and four sisters, Mrs. J. S.
Rodgers, Mrs. A. H. Tingle, Mrs. F. W. Price and Miss Allie Kimbell.
Among us all she ranked always as a woman of culture, refinement,
sympathy, a kind neighbor, devoted mother and a true friend, and withal a woman
of heroic mould in bravely meeting the stern requirements and often the
disappointments of life.
“God touched her with His finger, and she slept,” the poet wrote. So may
we say of this dear life, “God touched her with His finger, and she slept,” but
not until a beautiful life was lived, a noble example of patience, fidelity to
truth and faith were given. Not until visions of a heavenly life, in Christ
Jesus, had cheered and illumined the valley of the shadow. And now, that she
sleeps, memory takes up the harp of life, and suiting the strings, finds that
her virtues melt into music. So it ever is, when a life is nobly and divinely
lived.
Vainly groping after the infinite meanings, we cry: Why should so
precious, so necessary a life be taken? The old, old question which will never
be answered till the veil of our mortal vision be rent by immortality, and we
see, not as now, darkly, but face to face. Then also may we behold the heavenly
mansion which perhaps she was called thither, thus early, to help prepare for
her loved ones.
Interment was in Locust Grove Cemetery, D. T. Carmichael funeral director
in charge.
The last services were held at the Locust Grove Baptist Church at 3:30
o’clock, Rev. J. L. Clegg officiating. Songs were touchingly rendered by the
choir. The flowers were many and beautiful, but not more beautiful than the
face that rested so peacefully among them. Beautiful in life, beautiful in
death, but far more beautiful in the glorious resurrection morn. Flowers seemed
to be the best emblem we have to express our love, for we wreaths them around
the cradle, the marriage altar and the tomb. Thus would we leave her, and in
memory keep her; as sweetly reposing among the beautiful and fragrant flowers.
