SMITH Mrs. Lillian Saunders Smith, widow of Woodie Edward Smith of Franklin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Lockhart, of Columbia. S.C., on Thursday morning, September 13, after an illness of many months. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Sarah Olethia Holland Saunders of Nansemond County. She had been a resident of Franklin since 1912 and was on a visit with her daughter when taken ill in April of this year. Besides her daughter she is survived by one son, Lyle S. Smith of Franklin; two grandchildren, Robert S. Lockhart, 3d, and Woodie Edward Smith, 2d; one sister, Mrs. Agnes L. Parrish of Crestview, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was brought to Franklin for interment. Funeral services were held at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, with Rev. R.D. Stephenson officiating, assisted by Rev. W.A. Grissom. Joel Holland sang "The Way Of The Cross Leads Home." Active pallbearers were Dr. J.P. Broaddus, Raymond Hayes, L.C. Johnson, Leigh W. Johnson, Dr. Darden Jones and Dr. T.A. Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were John Beale, G.E. Benton, Edgar Jackson, Emerson Jones, W. Tall Jones, C.C.
