HERBERT LAFAYETTE JOYNER

HERBERT L. JOYNER

   Herbert L. Joyner, 73, of Courtland died in a Norfolk hospital at 1:40 
o'clock Monday morning, February 18. He had been in falling health for the past 
ten years. 

   The deceased was a life-long resident of Courtland, and a member of the 
Johnson Grove Christian Church. 

   Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Quintilla Vick Joyner; three daughters, 
Mrs. John Story, Mrs. Robert Pope and Mrs. George Lamb, all of Capron, three 
sons, Marion R. Joyner and H. Odell Joyner of Courtland and Jesse H. Joyner of 
Norfolk; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eddie Rollings of Southampton 
County; and three brothers, James H. Joyner of Courtland, M.B. Joyner of 
Dendron, and Alex D. Joyner of Yonker, N.Y. 

   Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home 
in Courtland of Marion R. Joyner  by Rev. William A. Grissom of Franklin, 
assisted by Revs. Otis L. Gilliam and L.M. Kanipe of Courtland. The joint 
choirs of the Courtland Methodist and Baptist Churches sang "Safe in the Arms 
of Jesus" and "Abide With Me" Mrs. Elmo Pittman playing the accompaniment. 

   Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley, the active pallbearers being 
William A. Bell, Charles W. Davis, E. Allan Grubbs, Hurley Joyner, W.T. Joyner, 
Russell Owen, George B. Vick and Millard Williams.
