NORFOLK — William Joseph White Sr., 75, of 522 Spotswood Ave., Apt. A2, 
president of Southern Sanitary Co., Inc., died Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. in a 
hospital. Born in Mathews County, he lived in this area 60 years. He was the 
husband of Mrs. Mary Banks White and a son of Joseph and Missouri Shinnault 
White.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, Ryan 
Club, and Lafayette Yacht Club and a former trustee of Norfolk Elks, Lodge 38.
Besides his widow, surviving are four sons, John B. White, James R. White, 
Thomas W. White and Edward F. White of Norfolk; five daughters, Mrs. Lydia W. 
Staples, Mrs. Margaret W. Bulifant, Mrs. Miriam W. Sellers and Mrs. Adelaide W. 
Bishop of Norfolk and Mrs. Mary W. Kraft of Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, J. 
Edgar White of Hickory, Chesapeake, and Liston White and Garland T. White of 
Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Wray Morgan of Mathews; and 34 grandchildren and three 
great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Thursday at 7:30 
p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
