Pierce Rites Held Tuesday 

  SUFFOLK, Feb. 20. - Funeral services for Frederick Clarence Pierce, who died 
suddenly Sunday night at his home on Highland Avenue, were conducted at 3 p.m. 
yesterday at the Hill Funeral Home. Rev. J. Lester Lane, pastor, ard Rev. 
Charles W. Jones, assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. 

  Mrs. Claudia Jacobs, Mrs. Paul Rawles, T. Byron Cutchins and Rev. Jones, 
accompanied by Mrs. Julian Goodwin, sang, "God Will Take Care of You," and 
Rev. Jones sang the Lord's Prayer.  The pall was of Easter lilies, red roses 
and white gladioli. 

  Pallbearers were D.F. Barnett, Edgar Bradshaw, Oscar Beaton, A.W. Ballard, 
R.D. Bell, F.H. Hamblin, James Ellis and Albert Farrenkopf.  Members of the 
Business Men's Bible Class, of the First Baptist Church, were honorary 
pallbearers.  Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

His father Julius Adolphus Simon PIERCE (1846 - 1920) was Postmaster of Exit, 
   Nansemond Co. in 1915.  He was buried in Buckhorn, Nansemond Co. - site 
   not known (May 2024) to the SCHS Cemetery Project. 

His mother was Julius' first wife Catherine (BAINES) PIERCE.
