Highway Mishaps Fatal To Three Near Suffolk

Two Central Hill Men Killed As Car Leaves Route 460 At Providence Church;
   Murfreesboro Man Dies Here

Two men were instantly killed and a third died in a Suffolk hospital
Saturday night as a result of week end highway accidents in nearby counties.

Landwood [sic; Linwood] H. Edwards, 54, and John W. Turner, 58, both of
Central Hill community, Isle of Wight county, were killed yesterday morning
when the automobile in which they were driving overturned near Providence
Church, four miles northwest of Suffolk, on Route 460.

William Bellfield, of Murfreesboro, N.C., died at a local hospital Saturday
night of injuries received an hour earlier when the truck in which he and a
group of other workers at a Murfreesboro plant, overturned after running off
the shoulder of tbe highway between Murfreesboro and Rich Square, N.C.

Edwards and Turner, were said to have been coming in the direction of
Suffolk when their automobile left the highway turning over several times,
burying them beneath the wreckage.

The accident was investigated by State Trooper H.W. Burgess, who, on
arrival, found both men had sustained fractured skulls. He said that the
accident apparently had not involved any other automobile.

Edwards is survived by his wife, Pearl Edwards; a son, Lee Edwards; a
mother, Mrs. George Edwards; and a sister, Mrs. J.W. Wilson, all of Isle of
Wight County.

Funeral services for Mr. Edwards were held at Central Hill Baptist Church
this afternoon at 3 p.m., with the pastor, the Rev. George Kissinger,
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Turner is survived by two brothers, L.H. and LaFayette Turner, of Isle
of Wight County, and three sisters, Mrs. J.O. Stephenson and Mrs. Nettie Carr,
of Isle of Wight, and Mrs. Byrum Carr, of Norfolk.

Funeral services for Mr. Turner were held this afternoon at Central Hill
Baptist Church at 3 o'clock by the Rev. George Kissinger. Burial was made in
the family cemetery near Windsor.
