James D. Thacker

HAYSI -- James Darrell Thacker, 30, passed away at his residence Monday, 
Dec. 16, 2002. A native of Haysi, he was a son of the late James D. and 
Charlotte Counts Thacker. He was last employed with RAT Contractors, Oakwood, 
Va. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was 
preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Marie Thacker; and 
maternal grandparents, Lawrence "Cat" and Pauline Counts. 

Survivors include his fiancee, Matilda "Janie" Lester, Haysi; three daughters, 
Stephanie Edwards, Kimberly Thacker and Carley Thacker; three sons, Timothy 
Horton, Taylor Horton and Joshua Thacker; two stepsons, Zack and Dylan Lester; 
four sisters, Jennifer and husband Rodney Sperow, Star Smith and Becky Viers, 
all of Haysi, and Jill Stanley, North Carolina; three nieces, Brittney, Ashley 
and Christy Sperow, Haysi. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Haysi 
Funeral Home with Leon Sykes officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace-
Breedlove Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be Scotty Owens, Richard Thacker, 
Eric Stanley, Bert Bowman, Gary Mullins and Shawn Sperow. Honorary pallbearers 
will be Rodney, Joe and Norman Sperow. Friends may call after 6 p.m. at Haysi 
Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, where an evening service will be held at 
7 p.m. 

Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
