 Moody Burt STEWART/STEWARD/STUARD
12 Sep 2000

First Generation

1. Moody Burt STEWARD was born Mar 1853 in Prob Hamilton, Monroe County, Mississippi. He died 1909 in Bazette, Navarro County, Texas.

From Robert Stuard "Red": The story goes that Moody had to get out of Mississippi fast, the Mississippi
Rednecks got a hold of 13 Yankee Carpetbaggers who were stealing from them and hung them. The Feds were
after the Rednecks so Moody rode out of Mississippi on horseback, he was a big hunter and took his dogs with him.
He met up with his wife in Texas and the family relocated in Corsicana TX about 1893. Moody did not read or
write so Alice, his wife, unknown to Moody, changed the spelling of their last name to Stuard (I assume so he
couldn't be tracked down). Moody raised cotton and had some cattle. Inez (Nelson) McCall remembers her
mother telling her as they drove by a little cemetery in Bazette, that, that was where her grandfather (Moody) was
buried. Moody told his children that he walked five miles to school in the mud, barefooted. Moody died with
	symptoms of Diabetes.

Red Stuard (Robert Moody Stuard) says that his grandfather had a brother in a war.

Moody married Malissa Alice LANGFORD, daughter of F. M. LANGFORD and Sirene B. CASTRO, about 1882 in Prob. Lee County, Mississippi. The marriage ended in divorce. Malissa was born 23 May 1868 in Paris, Lafayette County, Mississippi. She died 21 May 1926 in Temple, Harris County, Texas and was buried 22 May 1926 in Hillcrest Cem., Temple, Harris, Texas.

Malissa Alice Langford was only about 14 years old when she married Moody, who was about 29 years old.
Malissa "Alice" left her family about 1900, (she divorced Moody) her two little boys were about 2 and 5. Her
older children were newly married, one of her daughters who had just married took care of the Wyatte and Ernest.
She left and married James Armp McCreary, they lived in Temple Texas. The story goes that the children had a
choice to go with her but they didn't like her new husband.

James and Malissa Alice had 2 boys, Clarence and Curtis. In her obituary in the Temple Daily Telegraph dated
May 22, 1926, it reads: "Mrs. J.A. McCarley, aged 57 years, died at a local institution of surgery Friday morning
at 10:30 after an illness of several months. Mrs. McCarley had lived in Temple for the last fifteen years. She is
survived by her husband and six children, four boys and two girls: Preston Stuard and Wyatt Stuard of Corsicana,
Mrs. D.D. Nelson of Corsicana, Mrs. Val Wyley of Corsicana and Clarence and Curtis McCarley of Temple.
Three sisters also survive: Mrs. S.M. Patrick of Fort Worth, Mrs. Ed Castro of Corsicana and Mrs. W.T. Baker of
Waco, and two nieces who will be here for the funeral: Mrs. G.F. Dresner of Waco and Mrs. George Cowart of
Waco. Family services will be held at the family residence, 918 South 17th street, Saturday at 3 pm, conducted by
Rev. C.G. Brewer. Internment will be in Hillcrest." (It is interesting to note that her son Ernest is not mentioned
probably because he was in California and was not present at the funeral.)

Moody and Malissa had the following children:

Preston lived in Waco, Mclennan Co., TX and Corsicana, Navarro Co., TX. !Preston either
owned a taxi or drove a taxi in corsicana, they used to call it a gentry. Personal knowledge of
Inez McCall. Preston was a big, heavy set man and lived in San Antonio TX and had a used
car place. (Robert Stuard). Preston and Mary had no children. Mary had 4 grown children
	when they married.

Ernest's mother left when he was a baby and one of his older sisters took care of him (Maude), his
father died when he was 11. When he was abt 15 he left Texas and got a job driving a tour bus/car
all over the county. Ernest remembers that they lived on a farm raising cotton. He spoke of Troop and Corsicana
as his home. He also said he walked five miles to school in the mud, barefooted. He also remembers that his
father, Moody, bought a fancy new buggy after his wife left and it had leather seats. Ernest remembers sitting in
the buggy one afternoon and absent-mindedly took out a pocket knife and carved his initials in the leather seat. I
guess he was punished pretty severly. He was selling cars at the time he met his wife, Madge. He was also a
semi professional baseball player, I guess back in Texas, according to his son, Ernie.

Ernest married Madeline Agnes "Madge" HUNTER, daughter of John Logan HUNTER and Emma Mary GIBLIN, on 25 Apr 1925 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada. Madeline was born 18 Jun 1901 in Baker, Baker County, Oregon. She died 17 Apr 1984 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.

Madeline (Madge) and her sister, Mildred, were very close and played together as children. She
and Mildred helped alot with their younger brothers, John and Fritz. She remembers forgetting to ge the wood in
before dark and her father sending her out in the dark - they were afraid of cougars (Mountani Lions). They used
to take their fathers lunch to him lost days. They played with paper dolls cut out of a catalog. Madeline (Madge)
attended a high school in Baker and boarded with a family, working for her room and board. During World War 1,
she lived and worked at a hospital and tells a story about a Priest was sick in the hospital and he had a special cup
and saucer that he used. One day it broke and they glued it together with honey and sent it in. When they poured
tea in it, it naturally fell apart. The sister came out and told them - "would you believe it, Father tried to tell me
the cup just fell apart when he picked it up!" Madge used to sneak out the fire escape and go dancing and then
sneak back in. There was a horrible flu epidemic in 1918, the "Black Plague" and the hospital was full of flu
patients and luckily she didn't get it! Another story - Madge and Mildred had a pet sheep, they kept saying goodbye
to him before he was to be slaughtered and they forgot to lock the gate and he got out, their father was very upset,
that was their meat for the winter. Another story - the family had some cattle and Madge and Mildred played with
two calves, Willie and Buttercup. One day they were having dinner and one of the kids said that Butter Cups
liver was sure good, Madge was very upset. Madge worked for the telephone company and was working there
	when she met my father.

Ernest and Madeline had the following children:

34	F	i.	Barbara Lee STEWART was born 21 Dec 1926 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California.

Bruce and Barbara live in Somerset, California on 4 acres. They are working
full time at maintaining their property. Barbara has beautiful vegetable and
flower gardens throughout the property. Their home is beautiful, a country
style with a wrap around porch. Bruce drew up the plans himself and his son Chris built it.
One of Bruce's hobbies is making cut glass pictures, they have many hanging throughout their
house. They both look the same as they did 20 years ago, I guess it's all that hard work in the
gardens! Bruce is a retired Fire Captain from Sacramento, California.

Barbara married Bruce Corfitz NIELSEN on 15 Jul 1951 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California. Bruce was born 8 Aug 1928 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California.

36	M	iii.	Ernest Lawrence STEWART was born 22 Dec 1936 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.

Ernies grew up in Sacramento and remembers when he was young, he was
riding his horse and got off to get a drink from a stream, he held the horses
head up while he was drinking. Apparently the horse wanted a drink too and
stepped on Ernies foot and wouldn't move. Ernie was pushing and hitting the horse but it
wouldn't move, finally the horse reached down and bit him in the side! He went into the
Korean War (under age - 16) and was standing near a truck when it ran over a mine in training,
he got a concussion. When they found out his age he was sent home. Ernies profession has
been in Franchising. He was President of Round Table Pizza and owned Mountain Mikes
	Pizza.

franchises for them. He has a very nice girlfriend, Rowena. Rowena is a business owner, she
has worked in her own restaurant for over 30 years, and owned 4 restaurants and is now
helping friends out by tending bar and cooking at their restaurant. Ernie, through Rowenas
influence, has taken up Kareoke! She even had a tape made up for him. Rowenas husband
passed away about 5 years ago, she has 3 children. Frank, her youngest, is a police officer in
Solano County. Her daughter Fay Fay works for UC Davis in the administration department.
Her oldest daughter, Fayanne, is a computer technician and travels a lot, she is also a sergeant
	in the airforce active reserve.

Ernest married (1) Saundra Lee HUNTER, daughter of Ray HUNTER and Ann, on 20 Mar 1953 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada. The marriage ended in divorce. Saundra was born 22 Feb 1936 in Sacramento, California.

Ernest also married (2) Lynette Gail BANCROFT on 26 Dec 1959 in Reno, Washoe, Nevada. The marriage ended in divorce. Lynette was born 13 Jul 1937 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California, Usa. She died 4 Jun 1995 in Roseville, Placer, California, Usa and was buried 8 Jun 1995 in Lincoln, Placer County, California.

Lynette grew up in Quincy, California until the age of about 14 when the family moved to
Stockton, CA. Lynette went to 4 years of college and became a nurse working in labor &
delivery and surgery. Lynette married Ernie Stewart in 1959 and they had 2 children.
(From Ernie Stewart): Lynette was diagnosed with a congenital heart problem known as a
coarctation of the aorta which is a narrowing of the aorta restricting the normal blood flow to
her lower body especially her legs and feet. Tthis was first diagnosed by her ob/gyn Dr. when
she was about six mos. pregnant with Nick. she had a very difficult pregnancy because of this
and was required to avoid any strenuous activity during the balance of her pregnancy. she was
admitted to Stanford hospital in august and the surgery was performed by Dr. Norman
Shumway, one of the best heart surgeons in the country. The surgery was sucessful but three
days after the surgery she suffered a brain hemorraghe and went into a coma. She remained in
the coma for about two months. The neurosurgeons informed me late one evening that the
blood vessels in her brain had gone into spasm, which basically meant that they had closed up
and pressure was building up in her head, and that they would have to operate immediately.
They took her into surgery about ten o'clock that night. When they brought her back I noticed
that she still had all her hair so I knew that they hadn't operated. The Dr. told me that it was
inoperable due to its location, he said that her only chance was for them to try a discontinued
treatment by injecting her with an iv solution containging 5% alcohol followed by one unit of
plasma this would either relax the blood vessels or cause a total rupture. They said it was her
only chance so I signed the consent forms. Her breathing was down to about six breathes per
minute but she seemed to be able to hear my voice so the Drs. had me sit there and tell her to
breathe every six seconds and every time i said

Ernest also married (3) Patricia BROWN on 1984 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California. The marriage ended in divorce.
