1998 Queries, Lavaca County, Texas

Roland Beausoleil rbeausol@erols.com Thu, 01 Jan 1998 17:01:25
Could someone who is going to the Lavaca county courthouse check to see if there
is a death certificate available for Anna SCHUBERT/SUBERT? Anna died May 13,
1906 and is buried in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Yoakum. Yoakum is
divided between Dewitt/Lavaca counties so this death certificate could be
recorded in either county. I would be willing to do lookups in the 1870/1880 TX
census index in exchange for help. If you find this certificate please email me
so that I can order it from the correct county courthouse. Thanks, Roland

MONK, Alfred Frederick b. 1 Dec 1852 London, England md. Leona Sophronia WIGGINS
ca 1878 somewhere in TX. She had resided in Leon, Freestone Cos. before
marriage. After marriage she and Alfred and family are enumerated on the U.S.
census population schedules the TX counties of 1880 Robertson, 1900 Lavaca, 1910
Montgomery and 1920 DeWitt. They were said to have owned/worked in a beer
brewery. The 1910 & 20 census shows Alfred managed a Pool Hall, so I suppose
that is where the brewery story came. 1900 showed occupation as a farmer. Their
known children born 1879-1893: Annie, Emily, Edward, Albert, Lonie and Roy. Have
information to share about this couple's ancestry, but know little about the
children and have but one blurry photo of Leona and her brother Tom taken ca
1915. Would like to exchange information and obtain photos of this family.

My great-great-grandparents, Archibald Newton and Harriet BELLAMY, moved from
Franklin Co GA to Gonzales Co TX in 1881. I'm not sure how many of their 8
children traveled with them. I know that at least 3 of them came to TX - Walter
Eugene, Martha, and George. Martha and George were listed in the Gonzales Co
school census in 1896-8. Martha, my great-grandmother, married my great-
grandfather in 1899. Either the county lines were re-drawn or Archibald,
Harriet, and George moved to Lavaca Co TX. All 3 show up in the 1900 Lavaca Co
TX census. In 1910, only Archibald and George show up with apparently, George's
wife Mamie. I know that Harriet died in March of 1910. However, the TX death
index does not show the death date of Archibald. Using the 1920 soundex I have
not been able to locate Archibald, George, or Mamie in TX. What I am looking
for: 1) A copy of Harriet's death record and/or obituary notice; 2) A copy of
Archibald's death record and/or obituary notice; 3) Whereabouts of George and
Mamie in 1920. Is there a local researcher who can help me find this? What are
the fees? Thanks.Nikki Quinn queenlep@wt.net -- nquinn@stewart.com

Researching family of: TUCKER, Robert H. and GRIFFITH, Mary Etta. Robert was
born in Trinity, Texas in 1860. He married Mary Etta in Trinity in 1882. The
first of their children were born in Trinty. Another child or two was born in
Beeville. My grandfather, Frank Clebriant TUCKER was born in Yoakum in 1896.
There were several other children born after him. I have been told that the
family lived on the Lavaca Co. side of Yoakum. I have not been able to locate
info. on the family while in Yoakum. I have always been told that they are not
related to the TUCKER family that was already in the area prior to their
arrival. Robert and Mary are both buried in the Nursery Cemetery, along with
several of their children. Mary is supposed to have died in San Antonio. Robert
died in 1950 - we celebrated a couple of my birthdays together since our
birthdates were only a day apart. If anyone has come across information on this
family, possibly through marriage, I would appreciate any info. and help.

Descendants of Logan McMillon COFFEE (d. bef. 1865) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth
RAGLAND (1807-1880) and other related Coffees came to Lavaca County, most likely
from Jackson County, Alabama sometime before or early into the Civil War.
Logan's parents are supposedly James Coffee and Elizabeth "Betsey" Coffee, but
that's all I know about their ancestry. Descendants I know of are as follows: 2.
Mansel Coffee; 2. Thomas "Logan" Coffee; 2. Araminta Coffee; 2. William D.
Coffee; 2. Cleveland Coffee; 2. Robert Marion Coffee; 2. Julia Coffee; 2. Fanny
E. Coffee; 2. Langston Coffee. (2) Mansel Coffee marred Georgia REYNOLDS in 1861
in Lavaca Co. and had at least one son, (3) Cleveland Coffee. I have found
mention of a William S. Coffee, born 1795 in KY and died Nov 1875 in Lavaca Co.,
married first to an Elizabeth SCHOOLER, then Jane (aft 1871). Most of their
children were born in Jackson Co., AL, but died in Lavaca Co., TX as well.
William S. could be a brother of Logan McMillon mentioned above, but I have been
told that his brother William had the middle name of Woodson. William S.
Coffee's kids were: Mary J. Coffee; Elizabeth Coffee; Emeline Coffee; Catherine
Coffee; Margaret Coffee; Henrietta Josephine Coffee, m. William Lawrence, d.
1916, Hackberry, Lavaca Co. Henrietta Coffee-LAWRENCE had a daughter named
Willie Lenora Lawrence, b. June 7, 1872 in Hackberry who married an Allen
ENGLISH. Am trying to track the relationship of Allen English to Rosa Augusta
English who married Glenn T. Coffee, son of Thomas Logan Coffee. (This branch
lived and died up in panhandle, primarily in Potter Co. (Amarillo) and Carson
Co. In short, I need help tying any of these Coffees and Englishes together and
would love any other information anyone has on these families. Thanks.
