Freestone County, Texas Cemeteries Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery African American Cemetery [NOTE - Do not confuse this cemetery with Salem Predestinarian Baptist cemetery near Teague (a white cemetery).] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status: Active Location: About 3 miles west of Dew on Plum Creek. Directions: 2 1/2 miles from Hwy 75 (now Hwy 3) on FM 489 out of Dew. Cross over I-45 and go 2 miles to Salem Missionary Baptist Church. It is about 1/4 mile away from the church. Background: This is the old African American community of Salem that had 125 blacks enrolled in school in 1893-1894 and has an African American Masonic Lodge #29 that began in 1900.
