   ODESSA  --  Longtime  Odessa  resident  Vivian Ray Nail died Saturday,
   Sept. 25, 1999, following a long illness.
   
   She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William F. Nail.
   
   She  is  survived by her sons, the Hon. William F. Nail Jr., a federal
   judge  in  Albuquerque,  N.M.;  Charles  E. Nail, an administrator for
   Ector  County Independent School District; and Dr. James I. Nail, band
   and symphony orchestra director of Sprague High School of Salem, Ore.;
   five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
   
   Born  Vivian  Pearl  Ray  Oct.  7, 1911, in Silver Valley, she was the
   eldest  of  ten  siblings:  Cecil,  Raymond (deceased), Alfred, Grace,
   Lowell  (deceased), Lester, Ronald, Edwin and Opal, who were reared on
   the  family  farm  near Novice in Coleman County. In 1932, she married
   William  Francis  Nail  in Lawn and by the early 1940s, the couple and
   their  growing  family  had  left  farming  for the oil fields of West
   Texas, moving to Odessa for the first time in 1943.
   
   Husband Francis Nail was an oil pioneer in West Texas and retired from
   Forest Oil Corporation in 1977 as production foreman.
   
   In  1961,  Mrs.  Nail  opened  Vivian's  Floral  and  Gift,  which she
   developed into one of the most well-known and successful retail floral
   outlets in the country.
   
   Vivian  and  the  floral  shop  were known for the artistic quality of
   their floral designs and for outstanding customer service. Vivian Nail
   was  a  member  of  many  national floral organizations and was a past
   Business  Woman of the Year in the Odessa Chapter of American Business
   Women's Association.
   
   Following  her  retirement  in  1987,  Vivian  began  another artistic
   undertaking, becoming a skilled artist specializing in still lifes and
   landscapes.  Both Vivian and Francis Nail were longtime volunteers for
   the  Medical  Center  Auxiliary,  were  active  volunteers for Belmont
   Baptist  Church  and  strong  supporters  of the Door of Hope Mission.
   Vivian  was  also a longtime member of the Floyd Easterling Chapter of
   the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling and travelling, but
   loved  more than anything else presiding over gatherings of her family
   and friends who joined them.
   
   Funeral  services  will  be  at  11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at
   First  Baptist  Church  with  the  Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating.
   Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
   
   Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

   ODESSA  --  Lucille  M.  Montgomery, 89, of Odessa passed away Sunday,
   Sept. 26, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 4, 1909,
   in San Antonio.
   
   Funeral  services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at
   Frank  W.  Wilson  Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Jack Watkins
   officiating.   Interment  will  follow  at  Sunset  Memorial  Gardens.
   Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
   
   Mrs. Montgomery moved to Odessa in 1952 from El Paso. She was a member
   of  University  Baptist  Church.  She  was  a  homemaker  and loved to
   crochet.  She  was  an avid church member and loved to read her Bible.
   Her family was her life.
   
   She was preceded in death by her husband, James Montgomery, and a son,
   James Duward Montgomery in 1994.
   
   She is survived by four granddaughters, Joyce Bender of Denver, Debbie
   Montgomery  of  Salt  Lake City, Royce Ann Knight of Atlanta, Ga., and
   Terri  Fleming  of El Paso; sister, Helen and her husband, Abb Absher,
   of  Odessa;  nine great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and five
   great-nieces and nephews.

   ODESSA  --  Nell  Parks was born March 31, 1925, in Mount Pleasant and
   passed away Friday Sept. 24, 1999, in Arlington.
   
   She lived in Arlington the past 14 years, but was previously a Midland
   and  Odessa  resident for most of her life. She was secretary to Ralph
   Lowe of Midland from 1958 until 1967 when she married Jack C. Parks of
   Odessa,  owner  of Tillery & Parks Company. They were married 11 years
   until  his  death  in  January 1978. Her brother, John Culver, mother,
   Jewel  Howell,  and  her stepfather, Dixie Howell, all of Midland, and
   her father, Leslie Culver of Virginia, all preceded her in death.
   
   Nell was a beautiful and gracious woman, fun-loving, free-spirited and
   always  kind  and  caring  to  everyone  she met. She was a dedicated,
   devoted  and  loving  mother,  mother-in-law  and  family member and a
   compassionate,   loyal  and  generous  friend.  She  loved  traveling,
   reading,  gardening,  being  with  her  family and friends and helping
   others.  She  will  be deeply and forever missed by all those who knew
   and loved her.
   
   She  is  survived  by her son, Mark Parks of Newburgh, N.Y.; daughter,
   Dianne  Lofton and husband, Pat, of Arlington; grandson, Jason Lofton,
   his  wife, Shannon, and daughter, Arden, of Fort Worth; sister-in-law,
   Barbara  Culver  Clack  and  her  husband,  Jim Clack, of Midland; two
   nephews,  Bryson  Culver,  his  wife, Maryann, and sons, Reed and John
   Thomas,  of  Midland,  and  Lawrence  Culver, his children, Lawren and
   Corey  and  their  mother, Kim Culver, of Midland; three sisters, Wava
   Vigen,  Rhonda  Culver  and  Linette  Gagnon of Virginia; aunt, Gladys
   Carter  of  Oklahoma  City; and sister-in-law, Helen Parks of Houston.
   Chapel  services  will  be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly
   Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Philip McLarty officiating.
   
   Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
