Norwegian Cemetery
Lawrenceburg, Lawrence County, Tennessee

Directions: traveling west on highway 64 turn right onto Buffalo Road.
Go about eight tenths of a mile and the cemetery will be on the right.

According to an article published in the Lawrence County Advocate on
Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994, this small cemetery is the final resting place
for a small group of Norwegians. The most well known Norwegian families
in the area were the Ellingsons and the Ellingboes. Most were Lutherans
and a Norwegian church was established in Lawrenceburg.

According to a descendant of Ole and Anna Saterbak who also came to
Lawrence County, they came to live in the community of Dunn after first
settling in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Some of the children
married into the Ellingson family. The Saterbaks and some of their
children are buried in the Mimosa Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN.

Only a few markers are left standing in this cemetery. Most are broken
up and laid around the base of a large tree. The lot had been mowed and
there were flowers on one of the Ellingson tombstones indicating that
someone is still trying to take care of the site. The marker for Andrew
Heen is about to fall off the edge of the hill that overlooks Buffalo
Road. Apparently the road has been widened in the recent past and has
cut into the cemetery property without regard to the graves. It is
almost certain that those listed here are not the only ones buried in
this cemetery.
