Casper Smith 

Casper Smith, one of the best known residents of Barr township, died at his home, 
October 2, 1906.  Death was due to cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Smith was born in Bainsburg, Germany, 74 years ago and came to this country with 
his parents when he was seven years old.  Mr. Smith was a blacksmith by trade, having 
served his trade with Jacob Sharbaugh of Carrolltown and having followed this 
occupation for over 50 years.  Mr. Smith was a member of the Catholic church all his life 
and was buried in the Nicktown cemetery.  He is survived by his wife and the following 
children:  Anastasia, wife of James Wilson of Latrobe; Margaret, wife of William A. 
Lehmire of Carrolltown; Henry L. of Barr township; Mary E., wife of Frank Lehmire of 
Spangler; Jerome of Barr township; Charles Goss of Johnstown; Peter G., who resides 
on the old homestead.
