FEBRUARY 2002 OBITUARIES
FEB. 1, 2002:
Cross
Funeral services for Norman Ray Cross, 60, Frederick, will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday in the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel at Frederick with the Rev.
Vernon Floyd officiating.
Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction
of Jackson Funeral Home. He died Wednesday at his home following a lengthy
illness.
He was born Jan. 25, 1942 in Utica to F.W. and Mary Lou (Edwards) Cross.
He attended schools in Bryan County. He married Shirley Ann Jones on
May 20, 1961 in Frederick. He was a mechanic and an avid outdoorsman.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building with his hands and dominoes. He
was a longtime member of the Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home: two sons, Eddie Ray Cross
and his wife Kelley of Bentonville, Ark. and Ronnie Wayne Cross and his wife
Misti of Graham, Texas; one daughter, Lela Diane Snock and her husband Robert
of Frederick; six grandchildren, Nathan Chase Allgood, Crystal Marie Snock,
Alexander Quaid Cross, Victor Dillon Allgood, Robert Charles Snock and Taylor
Ranae Cross; two brothers, J.R. Cross and wife Paula of Frederick and Philip
Cross of Morrison, Colo.; six sisters Dorothy Mae Easton of Fort Worth, Texas,
Anna Kay Stinson and her husband Willard of Olustee, Lou Etta Siemen and her
husband Edward George of Hooks, Texas, Betty Ann Hunter and her husband Deryl
of Altus, Dorene Armstrong and her husband Jerry of Snyder and Lorene Newson
and her husband Gary of Bossier City, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, F.W. and Mary Lou Cross.

Emphysema Division in memory of Norman Ray Cross.
Forgy
Marvin Forgy, long time Duke resident, died Friday at Plantation Village Nursing
Home in Altus. Funeral services are pending at Kincannon Funeral Home.
Law
Carl F. Law died January 31, 2002 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services
are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with
Bill Osborne officiating and Bob Maxey assisting. Interment will follow in the
Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1934 in Valdosta, Ga. to Neil and Tinie Lee (Boyd) Law.
He grew up in Madison, Fla. where he graduated from high school. He entered the
Air Force and established himself as a law enforcement officer when he served
for more than 20 years. He married Nelta Kelley in Altus on Dec. 29, 1961. To
this union three sons and one daughter were born. He served as Assistant Chief of
Police in Mangum and under several administrations at the Jackson County Sheriff's
Department. He worked last as a security officer at the First National Bank of Altus.
He and his family are longtime residents of Altus were they attended the First Baptist
Church of Altus. He was active in sports and enjoyed bowling and coaching his little
league baseball team in American Legion Baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, John Mark Pierce.
He is survived by his wife Nelta of the home in Altus; three sons, Kevin Law of Hess,
Mike Law of Altus and Robert Law of Dallas,; a daughter, Debbie Freeze of Altus;
a brother, Clifford Law, Madison, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kyle Law, Karissa Law,
Melissa Law, Micah Law, Jordan Law all of Altus and Brandle Law and Dustin Law of
Edmond; two great-grandchildren, Michael Law and Mason Law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Heart and Lung
Foundation.
Lawrence
Velma Katharine Lawrence, 92, died Thursday. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.
Lemon
Funeral services for Josie Gertrude Lemon, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the
Oklahoma Chapel of the Gray Gish Funeral Home in Frederick with the Rev. Charles
May and the Rev. Roy Newman of the Pentecostal Holiness Church officiating. She
died Thursday morning at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1915 to George and Delitha Richardson Davis in Hill County,
Texas near Hillsboro. She married O.C. Lemon on July 15, 1935. She died Jan. 1, 1987.
She lived in the Frederick area all of her adult life. She was a member of the
Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lemon,
on Dec. 20, 1995.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Hazel Lemon of Altus;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Lee Sheffield of Frederick and Georgia
and Joy Slade of Frederick; two sisters, Stella Defoor of Davidson and Helen
Prater of Lake Worth, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren;
22 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and nephews.<BR> <P>

Meli
Congetta Meli, Wilmington, Del. formerly of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died
Tuesday afternoon at a Wilmington hospital. Viewing will be from 3 to 5 p.m.
Sunday at Chandler Funeral Home, Wilmington. A mass of Christian burial will
be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Wilmington.
She was born Jan. 23, 1913 in Avellino, Italy to Nicholas and Maria
Rizzolo del Guercio. She arrived in the United States in June, 1915 and
was reared in Drexal Hill, Penn.
She was married to James Joseph Meli, Jr., and they resided in Bethel
Township, Penn. until moving to Hilton Head in 1977. She was an artist and
had worked as a secretary at the Media, Penn., courthouse for about 30 years
before retiring around 1977.
Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death June 11, 1988. She was also preceded
in death by her parents, a sister, Phyllis del Guercio, and her step-mother,
Maria Zecca del Guercio.
Survivors include her son James J. Meli III and wife Melita, Blair; her daughter
Carol Ann Gumrot and husband Michael, Wilmington; five grandchildren, Rhonda
Garrison and Randy Meli, both of Blair; Jim Meli, Chickasha; Stephanie Hardy,
Wilmington, and Michael Gumrot, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three great-grandchildren,
Nicholas and Chase Garrison, Blair, and Ricky Hardy, Wilmington, and a
step-daughter. Mary M. Brown, Wilmington.

Wiley
Treavous Alaway (Wallace) Wiley, 87, of San Angelo, Texas died Wednesday.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Altus City Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.
She was born June 15, 1914 in Hess to William Lee and Willie Ann Wallace.
She had been a resident of San Angelo for four years. She was a former resident
of Altus where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married William
W. Wiley in September of 1934 in Altus. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Survivors include her daughter Jane Wiley Camp and husband Charles of San Angelo;
three grandchildren, R. Jay Hollway and Wiley Kevin Hollway both of San Angelo and
Scott Hollway of Kerrville, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Justin Hollway,
Chad Holloway, Paula Hollway, David Hollway and Misty Hollway of San Angelo;
a brother, Jim Wallace of Duncanville, Texas; niece Ann Akins and husband Bill
of Altus and many other nieces and nephews.
FEB. 3:
Avery
Dr. Bert M. Avery, 60, Wichita Falls, Texas, died Thursday. Graveside
services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lunn's Colonial Chapel in Wichita Falls
with Reggie Coe minister of Grace Church officiating. Graveside services will be
at 3 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday
afternoon from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.
He was born Sept. 12, 1941 at Los Angeles. He married Roxanne Depe on March 28, 1996
in Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Avery.
Survivors include his wife, Roxane Avery of the home; his mother, Elda J. Avery
of Mangum; children, Ralph Avery of Dallas, Stephanie Avery and Gavin Avery both
of the home; a step-son, G.C. Gibson of the home and two sisters,
Sharon Avery of Davis, Calif. and Pam Clark of Chico, Calif. both of the home.
Forgy
Marvin Presley Forgy, 76, longtime Altus resident passed away early Friday
morning at the Plantation Village Nursing Home. Graveside services are scheduled
for 10 a.m. Monday at the Rock Cemetery with the Rev. Melvin Moody officiating.
Services are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
He was born on July 5, 1925 in Ventura, Calif. to Bernie and Pearl (Presley) Forgy.
He graduated from Chillicothe High School and then from the University of Missouri
with a Bachelors degree in journalism. He served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his first cousins, Howard Darby and Jack Peterson.
Keith
Elsie Joann Keith, 65, died Monday at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Thursday at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Rev. Ellis Evans officiated. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter,
S.C. was in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Altus to Charles and Callie Bass Robertson. She was a former
Postmistress of the U.S. Post Office in Horatio.
Survivors include two sons, William Ralph Keith of Dalzell, S.C. and Larry
Duane Keith of Sumter; a daughter, Deborah Diane Dungy of San Antonio,
Texas; three brothers, James Robertson of Pleasantville, Mo., Charles
Robertson and David Robertson both of Mineral Wells, Texas; two sisters,
Linda Doss of Oklahoma City and Debra Vest of Mineral Wells and seven
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mabry Parker.
Kennedy
Elizabeth J. Kennedy, 94, Ada, died Friday. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City with Dr. C.A. Kennedy
and Dr. Tim C. Eaker officiating. Interment will be at Muskogee.
She was born Aug. 18, 1907 at Muskogee to Claude and Pauline Brown Kennedy.
He graduated from Muskogee High School. She worked at the music company in
Muskogee and later worked at the Federal Housing Authority in Washington D.C.
before retiring in 1976. She was also a civil service worker at Tinker Air
Force Base. She was a a member of the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City
and the Priscilla Sunday School and was the pianist.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Eaker and Mary Frances
Kennedy and a brother, Joe E. Kennedy.
Survivors include a brother, the Rev. Colquitt A. Kennedy, Albuquerque, N. M.;
several nieces and nephews including Allen Eaker of Altus.
Lawrence
Services for Velma Katharine Watkins Lawrence will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at
the Eldorado First Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Wiley officiating.
Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She died Thursday at Wichita Falls, Texas.
She was born to Mary Fannie Fowler and Charles Baxter Watkins on May 29, 1909
at Eldorado in a half dug-out. She graduated from Lincoln School near Eldorado.
She married Jeff Lawrence on Nov. 24, 1933 at the Eldorado Methodist Church
They had three children, a son, Donald and two daughters, Mary Rodford and
Jo Dyer. Her husband preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She loved gardening, quilting,
reading and canning fruits and vegetables. She continued her active life
in the Lincoln Home Demonstration Club for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Jeff; her parents,
Charles Baxter and Mary Fannie (Fowler) Watkins; a brother, Narvel Watkins
and a daughter-in-law, Helen Lawrence.
Survivors include her son, Donald of Houston, Texas; daughters, Mary, of
Wichita Falls and Jo Dyer and husband, Jeff of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers,
Ed Watkins of Catheral City, Calif. and Darwin Watkins of Hope Hill, Ala.;
a sister, Daphine Reid of Eldorado; seven great-grandchildren, Brian,
Danille, Brandi, Thomas, Lance, Kirk, Lawren, Hannah, Sara, Jordan and
Jacob; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Dylan; many nieces,
other relatives and friends.

Conway
William C. Conway, 43, of Altus, died Saturday. Services are
pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
Tatum
Joe Tatum, Jr.. 85. of Altus died Jan. 27. Graveside services, under
the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday
at the Altus City Cemetery.
FEB. 5:
Hunter James Hunter, Sr., 57, died Sunday at Comanche County Memorial
Hospital in Lawton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St.
Johns Mount Zion Baptist Church in Mangum. Officiating will be the
Rev. James Callins and the Rev. Reggie Hamilton. Arrangements are with
Greer Funeral Home. He was a resident of Western Hills Nursing Home in
Lawton. He spent most of his life in Mangum. He was born on Nov. 29, 1944
in Wewoka to Theodore ad Janie Mae (Add) Hunter. He attended school through
the 12th grade. He was employed by Lawton Transit Mix. He hauled concrete
for that company. He was preceded in death by his parents, son William
Shepard; six sisters, Mae Lois Brooks, Sue Dale Morris, Selma Franklin,
Dora Smith, Marlind Dendy, and Ellen Dendy and a brother, Jessie Huntley.
He is survived by his children Brenda Hunter and James Hunter, Jr. both of
Lawton; four grandchildren, the mother of his children, Melidean Hicks;
three brothers, Glenwood Hunter, Elmer Lee Pompey and Farland Dendy and
many nieces and nephews.
Underfinger Robert Joseph Underfinger, Sr., 75, of Altus, died Saturday
in Altus. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin George officiating.
Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 22, 1936 in Hoboken, N.J. to
Phillip and Florence M. (Wolstein) Underfinger. He entered the United States
Air Force in 1953. He served during the Vietnam era. He retired from the Air
Force in December 1976 as a Technical Sergeant. After retirement he worked
with civil service as a corrosion control specialist at Altus Air Force Base.
He also worked for Town and Country Bowling Lanes, Bordens, Altus Athletics
and Bar-S Foods. He is survived by five children, Edward Underfinger and his
wife Deborah of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Robert Joseph Underfingher, Jr. of
Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Teresa Neighberger of Colorado Springs, Colo,
Lanna Harris of Altus and April Harris of Elk City. He is also survived by
nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
FEB. 6:
Moore Della Faye Moore, 42, died Monday at Willis. Services will be at
2 p.m. Friday at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Hollis. Burial will follow at
Fairmount Cemetery. She was born Sept. 17, 1959 in Hollis to Cleo and Billie
Howell Potter. She attended school in Hollis and then married Tommy Moore
June 16, 1978. They had two children, J.T. and Bailey. She lived in Hollis
for many years before moving to Willis. She is survived by her son J.T. Moore,
Willis; a daughter, Bailey Moore, Willis; mother, Billie Potter of Hollis;
a sister, Betty Whitson and husband Ken of Hollis; nephew, Dillon Whitson of
Hollis; mother and father-in-law, Thurston and Pansy Moore of Willis.
Thompson Doris Thompson, 80, Moses Lake, Wash., died Tuesday at SunBridge
Care and Rehabilitation in Moses Lake. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Thursday at Kayser's chapel with Pastor Gordon Hutchins officiating. Interment
will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens, Moses Lake. She was born Dec. 24, 1921
to the late James Richard and Chalcie Doan (Wilkie) Carter in Olustee. She
married Dale C. Thompson Dec. 2, 1945 in Altus. He died June 23, 2001.
Because of her husband's transfer with the Bureau of Reclamation, the
family moved to Moses Lake in 1952. Following her husband's retirement
in 1975, they returned to Oklahoma to care for his elderly parents. They
returned to Moses Lake in 1992. She is survived four children and their
spouses, Jerry and Sheila Thompson, Moses Lake, Judy and Mike Morris,
Mountain View, Calif., Larry and Pat Thompson, Bloomfield, N.M., David
and Millie Thompson, Moses Lake; a brother, Dick Carter, Altus; 13
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Underfinger Robert Joseph Underfinger, Sr., age 65, of Altus, died
Thursday, January 31, 2002, in Altus. He was born December 22, 1936,
in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Phillip and Florence M. (Wolstein) Underfinger.
He entered the United States Air Force in 1955. He served during the Vietnam
era. He retired as a Technical Sergeant as a Corrosion Control Specialist in
December, 1976. After retirement, he worked for the Town and Country Bowling
Alley, Borden's Dairy, Altus Athletics and Bar-S Foods. He is survived by five
children, Edward Underfinger and wife, Deborah, of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida,
Robert Joseph Underfinger, Jr., of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Teresa
Neighberger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lanna Harris of Altus, Oklahoma,
and April Harris of Elk City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by nine
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services
are scheduled for Thursday, February 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin George officiating. Interment will
follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.
FEB. 7:
Aboussie James Aboussie died Wednesday. Services are pending at
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Black Ivan Murl Black, 82, Lubbock, Texas, died Tuesday in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hess Cemetery with
Pastor Philip O. Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction
of White Funeral Home in Idalou, Texas. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.
until noon at the Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus. He was born Aug. 16 in
Elmer to Joe Wright Black and Esther Beulah White. He graduated from Olton
High School and attended Texas Technological College. In 1953 he moved from
Altus to Quanah, Texas and to Idalou in 1963. He was a USDA Inspector and
worked for ICX Motor Freight. He was a member of the Raintree Christian
Church in Lubbock, Texas. He served in the United States Army during World
War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Wilbur Black and Wayne
Black and a sister, Eunice Coleman. Survives include a son, Larry Don Black
of Medford, Ore.; a daughter, Sherry M. Wilson of Eureka Springs, Ark.;
three brothers, Travis Black of Amarillo, Texas, Charles Black of Lone
Wolf and Clifton Black of Glen Rose, Texas; a sister, Eva Smith of Fort
Worth, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family
suggests memorials to the Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo,
Texas, 79174.
Borden Nan Borden, 89, Altus, died early today at Plantation Village
Nursing Home. Services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home.
Dunn Wayne Dunn, 56, died early today. Services are pending with
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
FEB. 8:
Aboussie James Ellis Aboussie was born June 13, 1913 in Oklahoma City to
Ellis Michael and Massuda Massad Aboussie. Jimmy passed away at the age
of 88 on February 6, 2002. Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother and
father, his brother Sam Aboussie, his sister Fedwa Aboussie Kouri, his
brother-in-law Salem Kouri, and his sister-in-law Emily Aboussie.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 62 years Josephine Tayar Aboussie,
his daughters Janet Rosell, Donna Aboussie, Barbara Essaili, his son-in-law
Dr. Kenneth Edward Aboussie, his son-in-law Abraham Essaili, his
grandchildren: Janet Ann Rosell, Armando James Rosell, Andrew Jose Rosell,
Leah Aboussie Gaither, Kenneth Edward Aboussie, Jr., James Joseph
Aboussie, Amanda Jo Essaili, Yousef Abraham Essaili, and Hassan Jamil
Essaili. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and
friends from all over the world. After graduating from Blair High
School, Jimmy worked with his parents and brother at The Leader, the
family owned department store in Blair, Oklahoma, later moving the
store and the family home to Altus, Oklahoma. Jimmy and Josephine
opened Janet's, Smart Apparel for Women, in 1953. He and Josephine
retired in 1989 after 51 years in the retail business. Jimmy was a
proud citizen of the City of Altus. He enjoyed promoting Altus to
people and businesses around the world. He was dedicated to preserving
the partnership between Altus Air Force Base and the City of Altus.
Most of all, Jimmy loved the people of Altus and cherished his friendship
with every one of his fellow Altusans. Jimmy's family would like to
send their warmest thank you to the people of Altus for their unwavering
support, friendship, and fondness of Jimmy. Jimmy, known as one of the
best-dressed men in Altus, devoted much of his time to civic and
charitable activities. He was a member the United Methodist Church of
Altus, a charter member of the Altus Lions Club, a 32nd degree mason in
the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Organization, a long-time Christmas
bell ringer and board member of the Salvation Army, a member of the
Altus Military Affairs Committee, and President of the Dads' Club of
Kappa Gamma at Oklahoma State University. Jimmy's proudest possession
was his wife and family. He insisted on the best for his daughters and put
all three through Oklahoma State University. This dedication to education
continued with his grandchildren. Jimmy was involved with his grandchildren
on a daily basis and attended every important event in their lives. This
devotion is Jimmy's greatest legacy. He is a benchmark of fatherhood. This
devotion was accompanied by a tremendous amount of patience and love.
Jimmy was a source of great strength and pride for his family. He was an
excellent storyteller and always had an appropriate story for any occasion.
Jimmy was also an avid golfer and taught the game to his grandsons. He scored
a hole in one on the second hole of his home course, the Elks Country Club
in Altus, Oklahoma. Jimmy was the greatest influence in the lives of his
daughters and grandchildren and is the consummate example of dedication to

Borden Nan Borden, 89, Altus, died Thursday at Plantation Village in Altus.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel
with Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery
under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 26, 1912, in
Bottom, Texas to John and Minnie (Rigsby) Fox. She graduated from Blair High
School. She married George Borden Dec. 18, 1928 in Tulia, Texas. She worked
all her life, mostly in hotel and motel management. She worked in and helped
manage several local hotels in her early years, including the old Shaffer Hotel
in downtown Altus. She worked in Temple Bailey's grocery store on South Hudson
for several years. She was the assistant manager at Cattleman's cafeteria in
the Bunker Hill Shopping Center for several years. She managed the clothing
and shoe department at Gibson's before going to work at TG&Y until her
retirement at the age of 74 in 1987, when the store closed. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church in Altus and enjoyed working with the public all
her adult life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George
in 1975; and two brothers, Fred F. and Bill Fox. She is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Margala and Hershal Milligan, Altus; a son and
daughter-in-law, Jimmy (Hoot) Borden and wife Angie, Nashville, Tenn.;
a brother, Arlist Fox, Altus; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Blair
Cemetery Association: C/O Peoples State Bank in Blair.
Conway William Charles Conway, 43, Altus, died Feb. 2. Services are scheduled
for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev.
Robert Green will officiate and interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery
with military honors. The family will receive guests at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1958 to parents William Edward Conway and Alma Lindsey
Willis Conway. He graduated from Altus High School and in August of 1970
entered the Untied States Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army
in 1982. After his discharge he lived in Las Vegas. After a short period,
he moved back to the Altus area where he owned and operated a retail store.
He was active as an Elder at the First Church of God in Christ in Altus.
He enjoyed fishing, working on his car, and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his son Daniel Charles Conway of Altus; mother, Alma;
brothers, Ray Conway of Chicago, Michael Lindsey of Maryland, Gerald Lindsey
of Fort Hood, Texas; sisters, Dian Johnson of Chicago, Murline Young and
Pam Ray, both of Altus; step-brothers, G.J. and Whitney Conway of New York;
step sisters, Elaine Bolding and Jeanie of Columbus, Ohio and many nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.
Dunn Wayne R. Dunn, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Mark Turvaville officiating. Interment will follow at
the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was
born July 14, 1945 at Colony to Nova (McLemore) Dunn and the late Leland L.
Dunn. He married Charlotte Lash on Feb. 15, 1969 in Weatherford. They spent
many years together in Hydro. He served in the United States Army during the
Vietnam era. He lived most of his life in Hydro and attended Oklahoma Christian
College. He was a member of the Church of Christ where he was a Sunday School
teacher for many years. He enjoyed farming, welding and teaching his daughters
all of his skills. He drove a semi-truck and a school bus for the Hydro School
System. His favorite pastimes consisted of telling about his life experiences,
playing the guitar, singing and spending time with family and friends. He was
preceded in death by his father and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors
include wife Charlotte Dunn, Hydro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and
Mike Wright of Farmington, Ark. and Tanya and Chris Cary of Altus.; his mother
Nova Dunn of Eufaula; his father and mother-in-law, Cane and Alice Lash of Yukon;
two sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene and Charles Floyd of Houston and Gayle
and Kenneth Hammons of Indianola; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Electa
Dunn of Checotah; a grandchild, Jacob Michael Wright of Farmington, Ark; and
many other relatives and friends.

Brown Esta Lucille Qualls Brown died Sunday. Services were held this
afternoon at Addington Baptist Church in Addington with Chris Rogers and
Mike Bernhardt officiating. Burial was at the Addington Cemetery under the
direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Comanche. She was born Jan. 18, 1912 near
Hasty, Ark. to Calvin and Eva Qualls. She came to Oklahoma in 1914 with her
parents in a covered wagon. They settled in the Tucker community and farmed
there. She graduated from Comanche High School and attended Cameron and Ada
Womens College. She later taught at Alamo and Graham. She married Billy A.
Brown on Sept. 15, 1933 in Waurika. They farmed east of Comanche until 1960.
They lived in Lockny, Groom and Amarillo, Texas. They moved to Warren in
1987. She then moved to Addington in March of 2001 to be near her son. She
was baptized and attended church all of her life. She was a homemaker and
enjoyed working in her garden, sewing and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Johnny
Mack and Jay B. Brown, and one brother, Gene Qualls. She is survived by
two sons, Eddie L. Brown and his wife Loretta of Warren, Bobby F. Brown
of Addington, Jay Brown, Jay's wife Mary Gene Brown of Wichita Falls,
Texas; three daughters, Sue and Chris Rogers of Clayton, Dana and Larry
Danner of Harlingen, Texas, Judy and Louis Ruthardt of Grooms, Texas;
a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Bettie Qualls of Comanche; four
sisters and a brother-in-law, Ora Bowen, Corene Weeaks of Comanche, Dorothy
Morgan all of Comanche, and Jerri and Junior Wood of Bakersfield, Calif.;
18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews.

McCarthy Frank Andrew McCarthy, 74, Altus, died Thursday. Funeral services
are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel
with Kevin McCarthy, his son, officiating. Interment with full military
honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born
Aug. 12, 1927 in Altoona, Penn. to Edward and Elizabeth (Winland) McCarthy.
For 27 years he served in the United States Air Force in the Tactical Air
Command. He worked as a draftsman, illustrator and superintendent. He retired
at Altus Air Force Base on May 31, 1973 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
After retirement, he worked at several rock quarries in southwestern Oklahoma.
He had lived in the Altus area for the past 25 years. He is survived by 11
children, Aleta Taylor and husband Robert of Luther, Linda Pfleger and husband
Dennis of Dickinson, Texas, Patricia Farrell and husband Jay of Mesa, Ariz.,
Michael McCarthy and wife Rebecca of Harrah, Retta McCarthy of Scottsdale,
Ariz, Mark McCarthy and wife Sarah of Chandler, Ariz., Shaun McCarthy of Mesa,
Ariz., Kerry McCarthy of Mesa, Ariz., Kevin McCarthy and wife Tammy of Apache
Junction, Ariz., Lee McCutcheon and Shannon McCarthy both of Mesa, Ariz. He
is also survived by a many grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He
was preceded in death by his parents.
Smith Funeral services for James Orval "J.O." Smith, 87, Weatherford were
held today at the Southwestern Christian Church of Weatherford. The Rev.
Dennis Robison will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery
under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. He was born to James and
Lillian (Mathis) Smith on July 27, 1914 in Hydro and died Saturday at
Weatherford. He was reared and attended school in Hydro and Weatherford.
He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1932. He attended Southwestern
Oklahoma Teachers College where he was on the wrestling and football teams.
He graduated with a degree in education in 1936. After graduation he taught
at Thomas. He married Martha Jo Potter in Thomas where he began his teaching
career. He served in the United States Army Air Corps. He then taught in
Boise, Idaho. In 1946 they moved to Cordell where he was a coach and teacher.
He obtained his masters degree in secondary school administration from the
University of Oklahoma in 1951. He then taught school in Hobart, Thomas,
Watonga, Walters and Frederick. He retired in 1974 After his retirement
he moved to Weatherford where he worked as an adjuster with Stroud Crop
Insurance. He enjoyed golf, dominoes, playing cards, basketball,
football, and keeping the clock at athletic events. He was an avid OU fan.
He is survived by his two sons, James Michael Smith and his wife Paula of
Altus and Joe Bob Smith and his fiancee, Jackie of Oklahoma City; a daughter,
Debbie Segars and her husband Don of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Opal Haws of
Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister, Gladys Norman. Memorials
may be made to the Gideons and the American Cancer Society.
FEB. 13:
Baker Stanley Morton Baker, 80, died Monday at Oklahoma City after
a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the
chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang.
He was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Vici to to Stanley M. and Kathryn Morton Baker.
He moved to Hobart as a teenager and graduated from high school there before
entering the United States Army. He served during World War II and reached
the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Normandy, France and Rhineland Theaters
and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater
Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and three Bronze Service Stars. He married Wanda
Phipps, Dec. 10, 1946 in Hobart and they moved to Altus in 1947 where they owned
and operated the Navajoe Uniform and Linen Service until retirement in 1987.
They moved to Mustang in 1992. He was a 50-plus member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Wanda and son Jimmy of the home in Mustang;
daughter Leta Grimes and husband Phil of Mustang; two grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,
son Chuck and sister Eloise Matson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to the Mustang Christian Church Building Fund 1313 W. Highway 152,
Mustang, Ok., 73064.
Hert Larry Joe Hert, 58, died Monday in Oklahoma City. Services will be at
10 a.m. Thursday at the Bethany Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. He chose to
be cremated and will be buried next to his mother and father in Altus. He was
born Jan. 27, 1944 in Lawton to Joseph Lester and Louis Hert. He graduated from
Altus High School and from Central State University in Edmond. He was an All-State
insurance adjuster. He co-owned Trinity Claims Service as an insurance adjuster
and private investigator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his
Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his friends. He was preceded in death by
his parents. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer C. Barry, her husband
Dennis of Edmond and an unborn grandchild ; and sister Brenda Kay Hert of
Oklahoma City.
Mayfield Christine Evelyn Mayfield died Monday at Grace Living Center
in Altus. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Emmanuel Baptist
Church with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at the
Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She was born
July 9, 1918, in Chanute, Kan. to Escal Nicholas and Selma Petronella (Benson)
Eskridge. She married Gordon Keith Mayfield April 21, 1937 in Independence, Kan.
They moved to Altus in 1958 where she was employed for many years with George C.
Wright Lumber Company and later at Red River Federal Credit Union as a bookkeeper.
She also became associated with her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Verna, at
Altus Printing Company and remained there until her retirement. She was a member
of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband of 61 years, Gordon Keith Mayfield; son Donald Nicholas Mayfield; sister
Mary Ellen Eskridge; two brothers, Escal H. Eskridge and Rudolph Benson Eskridge.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Verna Mayfield of
Altus and Michael and Carol Mayfield of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Nikki
Travis of Reno, Nev., Ronda Litsch of Altus, Robert Douglas Mayfield of Ocean
Springs, Miss., Traci Freeman of Oklahoma City and Jay Mayfield of Pensacola and
12 great-grandchildren.

Pitts Services for Gladys Leona Pitts, 89, Frederick, will be held Friday at

direction of Gray-Gish Funeral Home of Frederick. She died Tuesday at Frederick
Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 18, 1912 two miles
west of Frederick to William Thomas and Allie (Rogers) Samples. She married E.O.
Pitts on Nov. 9, 1936 in Frederick. She moved from Tipton to the South Deep Red
Community after her husband died June 26, 1973. She spent most of her life in
the Frederick area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Baptist
Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter,
Betty Lou Pitts, one son-in-law, Wayne Stewart, eight sisters, two brothers and
one great-grandson, James Wilson. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law,
Terry and Sue Pitts of Denton, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lynda
Stewart of Graham, Texas, Peggy and Jimmie Wilson of Grandfield; a sister and
brother-in-law, Johnnie and J.C. Barnard of Frederick; five grandchildren and

Roberts Rual Roberts, 74, died Tuesday in Waurika following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Cemetery with Jeff
Foster officiating. He was born Feb. 2, 1928 to Wylie Paschal Roberts and
Mary Myrtle Larison Roberts. He served in the United States Army during the
Korean conflict. He was a taxi cab driver in Vernon, Texas. He retired and
moved to Hollis and before moving to Waurika in 1991. He was a member of the
Church of Christ. He is survived by two sisters, Irene Fish of San Diego,
Calif. and Mary Pilgreen of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Marie Roberts.

with Greer Funeral Home of Granite. She was born June 21, 1919 at Lake Creek
to John Thomas and Pearl Susan Parks. She lived in Granite until two years
ago when she moved to Fort Gibson to be near her family. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Granite. She was preceded in death by her parents,
sister Jane Ann Prough and a nephew, Steven Huston Toole. She is survived by
her niece Martha Panter and husband Tom of Fort Gibson; three great-nephews,
Kyle Panter and wife Michele of Tulsa, Kelly Panter of Tulsa and Brian Panter
of Stillwater; two great-nieces, Stephanie Whitley and husband Ben of Edmond

Spear Pansy Mozelle Spear, 80, died Thursday in Corsicana, Texas. Services
will be announced later in Altus. She was a retired merchant and member
of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ in Altus. She was preceded in death
by her husband, R.C. Spear. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law,
Richard and Jackie Spear, Corsicana, Texas and Steve Spear of Stillwater;
five grandchildren, Michael Spear of Florida, Mandy Spear, Sarah Carver,
Eric and Ashley Carver, all of Corsicana, and Katie Whitt of Waco, Texas;
a great-granddaughter, Kyler Carver of Corsicana and a great-grandson,

Magoon Kenneth Charles Magoon, 34, died Wednesday at his home in Medina
County, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at noon at the
Lakehills United Methodist Church in Lakehills, Texas led by the Rev. Ellen
Ely. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San
Antonio, TX, with military honors. Arrangements are with Tondre-Guinn
Funeral Home, Castroville, Texas. He was born Jan. 26, 1968 in Warner
Robins, Ga to Michael Patrick and Betty Jo Magoon. He was a member of the
Lake Hills United Methodist Church in Lakehills, Texas; the Mico Volunteer
Fire Department, the Medina Valley EMS in Mico, and the American Legion
Post in Lakehills. He was a Flight Simulator Technician with the L-3
Communication Corp and had served in the United States Air Force.

FEB. 18: Caldwell John V. "Don" Caldwell, 92, Eldorado, died Saturday at
Quanah. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and
are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Eldorado.
The Rev. Don Ladner will officiate and burial will follow at the Eldorado
Cemetery. Visitation will be today until 9 p.m.. He was born to William
Harrison Caldwell and Martha Elizabeth Slagle Caldwell on June 1, 1909 at
Eldorado. He married Pearl Spencer Caldwell on Oct. 6, 1933 at Eldorado.
They worked on a farm south of Eldorado until their health forced them to
move closer to their children. He was a lifetime resident of Eldorado and a
loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. In recent years he
lived at the Quanah Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his wife
Pearl Caldwell in January of 1996; son Jackie Caldwell; grandson Mike
Whitfield; brothers Fred Arthur and Claude Caldwell; sisters Dora Welshan
and Effie Beach and his parents. He is survived by two daughters, Pat
Whitfield of Stinnet, Texas and Benita Braker of Abilene, Texas; sister
Bessie Cofer of Lawton; sister-in-law Jewell Weddle of Mangum; nine
grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one
great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and many other relatives

Graveside services for Jimmie Weldon Gentry, 84, of Frederick were held
today at the Tipton Cemetery with the Rev. Vernon Floyd of the Bible Baptist
Church officiating. Burial was under the direction of Gray-Gish Funeral
Home, Frederick. He died Saturday at Frederick. He was born April 20, 1917
in Montague, Texas to William A. and Nettie Ann Miller Gentry. He came to
Tillman County from Forestberg, Texas in 1922. He married Maggie Lovetta
Rogers on Jan. 4, 1938 in Lawton. She died Feb. 27, 2001. He retired as a
sub district manager from Lone Star Gas Company after 22 years. He also
worked for the Tillman County Sheriff's Department and the Frederick Police
Department for 15 years. He retired from the police department in 1986. He
served as a Boy Scout master in Tipton and on the Tipton and Frederick City
Councils. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. In addition to his
wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Bettie
Ann Gentry. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Lynnda Gentry
of Comanche, Texas; three granddaughters and their families including five
great-grandchildren, Jamie, Ronnie, Erin, Reagan and Paige Oster of Odessa,
Texas; Bari and Tommy McGilvray of McAllen, Texas and Lea Ann, Scott, Mattie
and Michaela Hill of Kingman, Ariz; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Roulain Addie Edna Roulain, 91, died Friday at Jackson County Memorial
Hospital. Services were held this morning at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel
in Mangum. The Rev. John Robles officiated. Interment was to follow at the
Riverside Cemetery. She was born in Willis on Nov. 2, 1910 to William and Effie
(Henson) Hargis. She grew up in Willis and attended school there. She married
Okley Leston "Buddie" Roulain on April 26, 1927 in Sulpher. They made their
home in Willis and Ozark before moving to Mangum. She was a homemaker and
also helped her husband operate a service station. Her husband died in 1992.
She was an avid photographer, gardener, collector of clocks, made many quilts
and played many musical instruments. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her children,
Rex Roulain and wife Marilyn of Mangum, Norman Castner and husband Paul, also
of Mangum, Thelma Homsey and husband Tommy of Amarillo and Barbara Norris of
Clinton; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-
grandchildren.

Funeral Home. She was born March 9, 1909 in Loco, to George W. and Minnie Ivey.
She married Fred S. Graves on Dec. 1, 1931 in Holdenville. She was preceded in
death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers and one son, Donald Charles
Graves. She is survived by her husband Fred of the home; three daughters, Lula
Mae and husband Ira Brown, Juanita and husband Jessie Brown, Lawton and Mary Ann
and her husband Milton Carter of Altus; one daughter-in-law, Joan Graves of
Lawton; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren
and many more family members and friends.

Lloyd Robert Glea Lloyd, 57, passed away Tuesday at Harmon County Memorial Hospital
in Hollis. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stewart Funeral Chapel
with Pastor Jim Westmoreland officiating. He was born Nov. 19, 1944 to Glea and
Twila Gregory Lloyd in Spencer, Iowa. He was raised on a dairy farm in Iowa. He
worked as an accountant in California. He married Lacy, Nov. 2, 1990, in California.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, sports, reading, news and his work. He is survived by his
wife, Lacy Lloyd of the home; a son, Greg Lloyd of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a daughter,
Ahley Peplin of Covina, Calif; parents Twila and Glea Lloyd of Spirt Lake, Iowa;
two sisters, Marty Moore of Pearland, Texas and Mary Trussell of Hanhan, S.C.;
two brothers, Larry Loyd of Severn, Md. and Marl Lloyd of Tyler, Texas; and
grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Peplin of Covina, Calif. He was preceded
in death by his Rob Alan Lloyd in 1998.

Crumpton Funeral service for Clara Crumpton, 85, Snyder are pending. She died
Wednesday in Snyder.
Mayotte Hazel L. Mayotte, 91, Altus, died Thursday. Graveside services, under
the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Altus City Cemetery. She was born on Sept. 9, 1910 at Atlanta. She married
Robert A. Mayotte on Sept. 8, 1941. She was a homemaker and enjoyed
crocheting and working in the family garden. She was preceded in death by her
husband Robert in February of 1984. She is survived by her daughter Betty Ann
Larson of Mesquite, Texas; son Robert "Bobby" A. Mayotte, Jr. of Atlanta;
half-brother Junior Thomas and half-sister Carrie McLeod, both of Tampa,
Fla.; grandchildren Angelica Smith, Richard E Larson, Edwin Larson, Ryan
Larson, Robert A. Mayotte III; great-granddaughter Ashley Smith and many other
relatives and friends.

Billington Memorial services for Jack Louis Billington were held recently in
California. He was born March 9, 1926 in Victory to Louis and Maude Billington.
He grew up on the farm, enjoying horses and completing his education in
Oklahoma. He served in the Armed Forces, and after his discharge, became a
carpenter. After the untimely death of his parents in 1958 he took over the
family's farm operation. He was a charter member of the Farmer's Gin Company,
charter member of the board of directors of Kern Parell Inc. and sat on the board
of the Semitropic Water Storage District. He was a life long member of the Wasco
Masonic Lodge number 583 and the Wasco Elks Lodge. Survivors include nephew Ken
Pollard and wife Consuelo; sisters Mozelle Affleck and Wanda Merritt, both of
Bakersfield, Calif.; grandchildren Michael Pollard of San Diego, Calif, Karen
Pollard of Bakersfield, Leslie Tiner and husband Jason of Bakersfield, Christie
Ruiz and husband Robert of Southgate, Shauna Gonzalez and husband Art of
Bakersfield and Andrea Martin of Hollywood; four great-grandchildren;
many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Louis and Maude Billington; sister Marlena Bean, his wife Reva and step-son

Crumpton Clara Crumpton, 85, Snyder, died Wednesday at Snyder. Services will
be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Snyder with Pastor Doug Henson
of Roosevelt officiating. Burial will be at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder.
She was born April 10, 1916 in New Mexico Territory to Tom and Willie Barton.
She married Ralph Crumpton in Snyder in 1933. She had been a farmer's wife and
owner of the Snyder Motel for many years. She graduated from Snyder High School
in 1933. Survivors include her son-in-law, Marvin Hyde, Snyder; grandsons,
Marvin R. Hyde of Fort Worth, Texas and Johnny Hyde of Tulsa; great-grandchildren,
Leigh Hyde, Snyder, Amy Hyde, Snyder and Kelly Hyde, Sulphur; nephew and Gary
Barton of Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
daughter Beverly Hyde, brother W.T. Barton and sister Earlene Craig.
Todd Funeral services for Tipton resident Sue Ann Todd, 25, will be at 2 p.m.
Sunday at the Church of Christ in Tipton. Gary Dennis and Gerald Kahlden will
officiate. Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of
Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. She died Thursday at her home. She was born
on July 18, 1976 in Lawton to L.A. and Phyllis Sturgess Todd. She attended
Tipton Public Schools, graduating in 1994. She received her Associates Degree
from Western Oklahoma State College and was attending Cameron University where
she was majoring in computer information systems. She was a member of the Tipton
Church of Christ. She is survived by her parents of the home; her maternal
grandmother, Reba Sturgess of Tipton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leigh
Alan and Kim Todd of Idabel and John Robert and Suzanne Todd of Wallis, Texas;
three nephews, Joshua, Lane and Jayson Todd and nieces Kristi Brittany and Julia
Todd and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her
grandparents, Hubert Todd in 1967, Robert Sturgess in 1989 and Irene Todd in
1999. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Home in memory of Sue
Ann Todd.

Bloomberg Leah V. Bloomberg, 84, Altus, died Sunday morning at Jackson
County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at
Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Jones officiating. Graveside
rites are pending with Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo. She was born
Jan. 4, 1918 in Harrison County, Mo. She was a nurse for Dr. Tospin in St.
Joseph, Mo. for 17 years. She was a 12-year resident of Altus and a member
of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold
Gene Bloomberg, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her husband
John D. Bloomberg, Altus; son John D. Bloomberg, Jr., Altus; daughter Elizabeth
Jean Karr, Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren
and many other family members and friends. Service arrangements were handled
by Kincannon Funeral Home.
Nebling Fremont J. "Freddie" Nebling Jr., 61, died Saturday at his home.
Services with military honors will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home. Burial will be at Altus Cemetery. Born April 27, 1940 at Farmington, Mo.,
he graduated from high school there and attended nearby Mineral Area College.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1959 and rose to the rank of senior master
sergeant by the time he retired in 1985. He was an aircraft mechanic and
worked primarily on the KC-135. During the Vietnam War, he served two tours of
duty in Thailand and two in Guam. Other assignments were at Elsworth AFB, S.D.,
and Grissom AFB, Ind. Nebling married Brenda Faulkner Nov. 19, 1961 at Wichita
Falls, Texas. After tours of duty at Sheppard AFB, Texas, and Grand Forks AFB,
N.D., the couple was transferred to Altus AFB in 1966. His military decorations
included the Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit and the
Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters. After Nebling's retirement
from the Air Force, he took a job with Altus Athletic/OK-1 Manufacturing Company
and was still employed there when he died. His father, Fremont J. Nebling Sr.,
died in 1965. Survivors include his wife Brenda of the home; his mother Katherine
T. Nebling, Farmington, Mo.; two sons, John Nebling and his wife Angela, Rogers,
Ark., and Fremont J. Monte Nebling III and his wife Vickie, Altus, and a daughter,
Deborah Parks and her husband Brian, Altus; his sister, Phyllis Strauser, Rolla,
Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Nebling, Brett Nebling, Clara Nebling, Elizabeth
Nebling, Mary Grace Nebling and Seth Nebling, all of Rogers, Ark.; Jerrod Williams,
Justyn Williams and his wife Tiffany, and Jeana Williams, all of Altus, Fremont J.
