Early settlers were Dr. More, Robert Ross, Elias Webb, Abe Pancake and
George Willis. James Webb, Sr., one of the early settlers, built the first
cabin in 1806. The first couple married were James and Sarah Webb, who were
the parents of the first white child born in Lawrence Township, Tull Webb.
James Webb, Sr., who had been appointed first justice of the peace in the
county, was elected to that office along with Robert Ross, constable, at the
first election held in section 27.

In 1835, the first school house, a log cabin 12 x 16 feet, was built. In
1882 there were a total of 10 schools located in the township, nine of which
were frame. These grade schools were disbanded in the 1950's when the
masonry structure was built at Andis.

A post office was first established in Section 17 by Edward Kitts, March 26.
1891. The area became known as Kitt's Hill and for many years was the
location of both grade and high school. The high school ended with the year
1950 when the consolidated Rock Hill District was established. A post office
was operated at Andis for a time, as was a grist mill by J. Webb,a Texaco
gas station, and general store by W.J.and George Dilley.
