Capozzi, Phillip
May 10, 2005 Phillip Capozzi, of Syracuse, who wintered in Melbourne, Fla.,
and most recently in The Villages, passed away Tuesday in the Crouse Memorial
Hospital. He was the son of Nicola and Crescenza Capozzi. He was a communicant
of St. Peter's Church and he served with the U.S. Army in Hawaii during World
War II. He was the owner and operator of the Winchester Hotel for 20 years,
and that building was part of the Urban Renewal Plan and later became the site
for the James Hanley Federal Building in downtown Syracuse. He then purchased
the Oneida Country Club and most recently owned Phil's Car Corner in
Melbourne, Fla. He was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Tuscarora
Country Club, and was also a member of the Harbor City Golf Course in Fla. His
wife of nearly 50 years, Rita Capozzi, died in 2003. He is survived by two
sons, Dr. Phillip Capozzi and Nicholas (Janice) Capozzi, both of Syracuse; two
grandchildren, Michelle and Nicholas Capozzi. Funeral services will be
conducted at 9:15 a.m. Friday in the Pirro & Sons Funeral Home and at 10 a.m.
in St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in the family mausoleum at Assumption
Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 514 Turtle St., Thursday from

Drozd, Maria   
May 10, 2005 Maria Drozd, 98, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday. Born in
Poland, she retired from the housekeeping department of Syracuse University.
She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart where she was a
member of the Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and the Orchard Lake Ladies
Auxiliary. Survivors: one sister and several nieces and nephews in Poland. Her
husband, Peter, passed away in 1970. Services: 9 a.m. Friday at the

Molesky, Shirley   
February 5, 2005 Shirley Doehner Molesky, of Liverpool, New York, passed away
on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a courageous
battle with diabetes and heart disease. She was predeceased by her parents;
brother, C. Wallace Doehner; and husband, Bob. She is survived by her
daughter, Lynnette Scofield of Ithaca; son, Bill of Liverpool; and her beloved
dog, Trouble. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Robert and

May 9, 2005 Ellen Tucker Murphy, 81, of Fayetteville, died at Crouse Hospital.
Born in Ashland, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William J.
and Edith Tucker. She graduated from Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Vassar
College. She resided in the Syracuse area over 55 years. She worked for Casual
Country Shop in Shoppingtown. She was a former member of Harmony Circle and
volunteered at Upstate University Hospital. She was a member of Vasser Club,
Syracuse, Town & Country Garden Club, Everson Museum, Onondaga Golf & Country
Club, Jupiter Hills Club, Tequesta, FL, City Club of Palm Beaches - reciprocal
member Century Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred T. Murphy, and
a brother, Peter Tucker. Survivors: three brothers, William J. Tucker, II of
St. Louis, Missouri, Edmund Tucker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Thomas Tucker
of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; a sister, Catherine Tucker DuPuis of Canada; three
nieces, Mary Tucker, Sara Tucker, and Elizabeth Tucker; a nephew, John Tucker;

Phelps, Evelyn Beers   
May 9, 2005 Evelyn Beers Phelps, 87, of Liverpool, passed on May 9, 2005, at
the home of her granddaughter, Rebecca L. Dwyer. She was lovingly cared for by
Rebecca and Donald Dwyer for the past 2-1/2 years. Mrs. Phelps graduated with
a BA and MS in Li-brary Science from Syracuse University. She retired from the
Onondaga County Public Library as head of the Business Department. Mrs. Phelps
was a member of Beta Phi Mu Library Honorary, McHarrie's Legacy, Canton Woods,
Onondaga Historical Society, and Grace Episcopal Church. She was predeceased
by her husband, Charles J. Phelps, who died in 1975, and grandson, Robert D.
Brister, who died in 1989. She is survived by two daughters, Martha P. Scanlon
of Liverpool and Susan P. Menter of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Charles H. Phelps
of Delmar, NY; three sisters, Eleanor Van Deusen of MA, Doris Newell and Nancy
Wicander of CT; grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Kevin

Taylor, Edward L.   
May 9, 2005 Edward L. Taylor, 78, of DeWitt, died Monday at the V.A. Hospital.
He worked at Lamson Corp. for 39 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Taylor served in
the U.S. Navy during WW II, and received the Purple Heart medal. He was a
member of the American Legion Post #359, the Disabled American Veterans and
Atonement Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife Jane; two sons, Charles D.
Taylor of DeWitt and Thomas E. (Nancy) Taylor of Syracuse; three
grandchildren, Angela Adams, Thomas E. Jr. and Justin Taylor; three sisters,
Margaret Powless of Camillus, Ida Mae Matthews of Syracuse and Jean Brigati of
Maryland; one brother, John W. Taylor of California; and several nieces and
nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt
Chapel. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call

Taylor, Jane Cutler
May 9, 2005 Jane Cutler Taylor, 81, of Seneca Tpk., Canastota, died Monday,
May 9, 2005, at the Stonehedge Nursing Home in Chittenango. She was born in
Utica on October 6, 1923, the daughter of Cyrus and Jennie Williams Cutler.
Jane was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and the Excelsior School of
Business. She was a past officer of Delta Gamma Delta Sorority. On January 8,
1944, she married 1st Lt. Stewart V. Taylor, a B-17 Bomber during WWII. Mr.
Taylor died in 1983. Jane retired from Herman Oil (Sunoco) in Oneida after
many years as an office manager. She is survived by her son, Craig S. Taylor
of Canastota; her daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Jeff Hadden of W.
Bloomfield, MI; and two grandsons, Eric and Scott Mandel. Funeral services
will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service,
Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Friends are invited to call Friday from noon
until the time of the service. Burial will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Todt, Katharine James
April 14, 2005 Katharine James Todt, 95, formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away
Thursday, April 14, 2005. She was born December 23, 1909, in Elizabeth, NJ,
attended Newark Normal School, and graduated from New York University. Mrs.
Todt was a junior high English and history teacher. She married Hans Todt on
July 18, 1936. She was a member of Park Central Presbyterian Church in
Syracuse and participated in Circle Q and recently a member of Peachtree
Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Mrs. Todt was very active in the Syracuse
community. She served as president of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Syracuse
Girls Club, The Portfolio Club, Auxiliary to the Good Shepherd Hospital, the
DAR and Community General Hospital, and was a member of Women of Rotary and
Upstate Medical Center Auxiliary. She and her husband jointly received the
Tambourine Award for their hours of work for the Syracuse Salvation Army. She
was preceded in death by her husband Hans and her daughter Katharine Todt
White. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Todt Michaels; grandchildren,
Louise White Carter, Katharine Michaels McDowell, Edward Griffin Michaels IV,
Charlotte Todt Schaffer, Alexander Clark White; and great-grandchildren,
Katharine Grace Carter and Anne Lane McDowell. She was buried at Evergreen
Cemetery in Hillside, NJ. A memorial service will be held at Peachtree
Presbyterian Church in the Wilson Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005. In
