OBITUARY OF THE OLDEST RESIDENT OF LINCOLN COUNTY
-----------
MORE THAN NINETY SEVEN YEARS OF AGE AND NEVER
WORE GLASSES
-----------
The following brief life of Grandma Diener is of
special interest and appeal to Tribune readers.
MRS. JACOB DIENER
Mrs. Caroline Deihl Diener probably the oldest resident
of Lincoln county, passed away at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Lloyd, 1112 West 6th street,
December 17, 1926, aged 97 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Mrs. Diener was born in Germany Sept. 5th, 1829, and
came to this country with her parents at the age of
four years. They settled in St. Clair, Pa., a mining
town, and there her father secured work as a coal miner.
She was married at the age of twenty-one to Jacob
Diener, also of that place. To this union nine children
were born, seven sons and two daughters. One son and
one daughter preceded her in death. They came to
Nebraska from Pennsylvania in about the year 1877 and
settled in Douglas county, where they resided for ten
years, afterward coming to Lincoln county where they
resided on a farm north of the city for over 30 years
and where her husband, Jacob Diener, passed away a
few years ago. Mrs. Diener is survived by her daughter,
Mrs. Elizabeth Lloyd, with whom she made her home at
the time of her death. For eight years prior to this
she resided with her son W. H. Diener. Five sons,
W. H., August, Louis, Fred, all of this city, and
George; who resides on a farm on Jack Morrow Flats.
Mrs. Diener contracted pneumonia and was ill only
ten days prior to her death, and up to that time
she was a very active person, assisting in most of
the household duties and able at times to take quite
long rides into the country. Except for the infirmity
of deafness, she enjoyed exceptionally good healt
being able to read without the use of glasses.
Her mind was exceptionally clear and she was always
interested in the usual topics of the day. She was
reared in the Lutheran faith and continued in the
same during a long, active life. Funeral services
were held from the Funeral Home, Dec. 19th, at
2:30 o'clock, with Rev. H. A. Anspach officiating.
The remains were laid to rest beside those of her
husband in the North Platte cemetery. Her grandsons,
Warren, Howard, Ernest, John, Will and Harry acted
as a pall bearers.
