Davis, a well known citizen of the vicinity of Richmond, died at the German Hospital in Kansas City Monday, January 17th following a brief illness. He was 68 years old. ------- Richmond Missourian Richmond, Ray County, Missouri 20 JAN 1916 Page 5 Death of A.Y. Davis. Prominent Ray County Citizen Passed Away at German Hospital, on Monday. Mr. A.Y. Davis, one of the prominent farmers and citizens of our county, died in the German Hospital in Kansas City on Monday evening, at 9 o’clock. For some weeks Mr. Davis had not been feeling well and it was thought an operation would improve his condition. He was taken to the hospital, Saturday, and did not seem to be growing worse, so his daughter, Miss Lavinia, went to Independence to be with relatives until the operation was over and so she could be near him. The operation was not performed and his death came as a complete shock to his daughter who is prostrated, and to the many friends. Death was due to diabetis and complication of ailments. Sixty-eight years ago in August, Alfred Y. Davis was born in Lafayette County, Missouri. He was a son of Gearge W. and Frances Davis. He was married to Miss Hannah Jones and to them two children were born-George, who was drowned four years ago while swimming in the ocean off the coast of South America, and Miss Lavinia, who survives. Mrs. Davis passed away seven years ago. Deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Martha J. Cooper of Odessa, Mo., and a brother, Joe Davis, of California. Mr. Davis was one of the strongest members of the Richmond Methodist church, and a man of great faith. As a farmer and stockman for many years he was among the first in Ray County and he owns a fine farm east of town which has been the family home for years. For a model Christian gentleman, one could not find a better example than Mr. Davis. He lived uprightly and dealt honestly with his fellow men. The community indeed has lost a good man. The body arrived from Kansas City, Tuesday a and was taken to the home east of Richmond where the funeral was held yesterday, at 2:30 o’clock, the services being conducted by Rev. C.M. Aker.
