Biographical Sketch of A. C. Tracy, Lafayette County, Missouri

A. C. Tracy, trader and grain dealer, post office Odessa.  Is a native
of Montgomery County, Kentucky.  When quite young he came to Missouri
with his parents and settled in Lafayette County, where he has since
resided, with the exception of the time spent in the army, engaged in
farming and trading.  In 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate service,
Colonel Gordon's Regiment, Shelby's Brigade.  Was engaged in the 
following battles: Westport, Mine Creek, Newtonia, Springfield and 
several other skirmishes, some of which were quite severe.  April 1st,
1865, he was taken prisoner and paroled after being detained for thirty
days.  In December, 1867, he was married to Miss Mary Gibbs, of this
county.  Their union is blessed with four children, as follows: Robert,
Carrie, Kemuel and Bertha.  In June, 1876, the family circle was broken
by the death of the wife and mother, leaving a sorrowing family to
mourn her loss.  Mr. Tracy came to Odessa in 1879, and engaged in his
present occupation.  He is a member of the Regular Baptist Church.  He
has an irreproachable record as a soldier and stands high in the esteem
of the community in which he resides.
