Biographical Sketch of H. C. Bruns, Lafayette County, Missouri

H. C. Bruns, P. O. Concordia, Missouri.  Was born in this county, Feb-
ruary 8, 1848, and was educated at the German and English schools of
Freedom township.  He was raised on a farm and in 1871 was married to
Miss Wilhelmina Lantz, a native of Germany, by whom he has had four
children, three of them now living: Mary, Alvine, and Ida.  He is now
engaged in farming, owning 163 acre of excellent land.  During the war
he belonged to the home guards, in Capt. Pepper's company, and was one
of the party which was attacked by the bushwhackers in their raid of
October, 1864.  He escaped by dismounting and crawling under a corn 
crib.  Both he and his wife are members of the Lutheran church of 
Concordia.
