SEWALL D. ANDREWS - Vol II, pg 322-325
Sewall D. Andrews was born in Owatonna, Minnesota, January 30, 1874. He
is a son of Lorin and Fidelia Hall (Munson) Andrews. The father was an
early settler of southern Minnesota and engaged throughout his active
life in the banking, real estate and loan business. In 1882 he removed
with his family to Minneapolis, so that Sewall D. Andrews was largely
reared in this city. The family name has long been associated with
development and progress in the upper Mississippi valley, for the
grandfather of Sewall Andrews was one of the earliest of the pioneers of
Wisconsin, settling in Mukwonago in territorial days and there he became
a manufacturer of flour and owner of a general merchandise store.

Sewall D. Andrews pursued his public school education in Minneapolis
after the family home had been established here, while later he attended
the Minneapolis Academy. He made preparation for the practice of law in
Cornell University, graduating with the LL. B. degree in 1895, and in the
University of Minnesota, where he pursued his postgraduate work, gaining
the LL. M. degree in 1896. In the latter year he was admitted to the bar
and entered upon the active practice of his profession, which he followed
in Minneapolis until 1903. He then utilized the opportunity of entering
upon an advantageous and profitable commercial connection as treasurer of
the Kennedy Andrews Drug Company, wholesale dealers, with whom he was
thus associated until 1907. In the latter year he became treasurer of the
Minneapolis Drug Company and so continues. He is thus one of the
executive officers of a commercial enterprise that ranks with the most
important houses of its kind in the Northwest.

On the 8th of October, 1893, Mr. Andrews was married in St. Paul,
Minnesota, to Miss Lilla S. Finch, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley B.
Finch. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews have three children: Mary Finch, Sewall D.,
Jr., and Dexter Lorin.

In his political views Mr. Andrews is a republican, and he is a prominent
figure in the Civic and Commerce Association, serving on its board of
directors for the year 1921-22. He was chairman of the wholesalers and
jobbers section from 1919 to 1921 inclusive, and his activities in the
organization have been far-reaching and beneficial. He was also elected
in 1922 to the presidency of the Minneapolis Club and at one time was
vice president of the Aero Club of this city. He belongs to the Chi Psi,
a Greek letter fraternity, and his name is on the membership list of the
Minikahda, Lafayette, Automobile and Woodhill Country Clubs.

He is a member of St. Marks Episcopal church, is devoting much of his
time to public and civic affairs and can be counted on to assist in
anything that is for the interest of Minneapolis
