    Dennis Andrew Champagne, 87, a native of Terrebonne Parish a
nd resident
of Theriot, died at 10 p.m. Monday, Feb.  1, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral
Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Eloi Catholic Church. 
Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in the church
cemetery.
    He is survived by six sons, Horace, Earl and Henry Champagne, all of
Theriot, Eustis and Carlton "Poncho" Champagne, both of Houma, and Willard
Champagne Sr. of Chauvin; four daughters, Mrs.  Brussel (Gladys) Voisin and
Mrs.  Earl (Gloria) Thibodeaux, both of Dulac, Mrs.  David (Dorothy) Dishman
of Houma, and Mrs.  Harry (Audrey) Croom of Bayou Blue; 30 grandchildren;
and 32 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Justine Marie Callahan Champagne;
his parents, Aurestile and Mathilde Duplantis Champagne; one son, Roy
Champagne; three brothers, Romain, O'Neil and Gaston Champagne; six half
brothers, Firman, Louis, Joseph, Harris and Leonce Champagne and Edward
Hebert; two sisters, Marie C. Loovell and Adele C. Theriot; two half sisters,
Alene Theroit and Marguerite Hebert Martin; and two granchildren, Michael
Champagne and Author Boudreaux Jr.
    He was a retired employee of the Sheriff's Water Patrol and a parishioner
of St. Eloi Catholic Church.
          
          AARON DOSSER
    Aaron "Dee" Dosser, 
79, a native of Malakoff, Texas, and resident of
Chackbay, died at noon Sunday, Jan.  31, 1999.
    Visitation will be fro 6:30 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to funeral time
Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.
Wednesday at the church, with burial in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in
Chackbay.
    He is survived by his wife, Pauline "Bubba" Dosser; one son, Bobby
Dosser, and wife, Gail; two daughters, Mrs.  Wayne (Linda D.)Clark and Ann
Dosser; three brothers, W.J., Troylee and Jimmy Dosser; two sisters, Lorene
Starks and Quinta Riddlespurger; six grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Qalter and Clara Hinton Dosser;
and one son-in-law, Clarence Dosser Jr.
    He was a U. S. Army World War II veteran, a Nationa Guard veteran, a
member of American Legion Post No.  0401 and a member of Calvary Baptist
Church.
          
          DOMINIC LAMARTINA
    Dominic "D.D." Lamartina, 82, a native and resident of Thibodaux, died
Monday, Feb.  1, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time
Wednesday at Thibodaux Funeral Home.  Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, with burial in the church cemetery.
    He is survived by one son, Angelo "A.J." Lamatina; one daughter, Mary
Cather
ine "Mamie" Ledet; two brothers, Joseph and Vincent Lamartina; five
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Maggio
Lamartina; his parents, Angelo and Mary Catherine Papa Lamatina; one brother,
Angelo "Rat" Lamartina; two sisters, Frances Lamartina and Frances Prestridge;
one great-grandchild, Alma Lajaunie.
    He was a retired employee of Nicholls State University, a U.S. Army
veteran, an honorary member of the V.C.H.  Fire Department, an usher and a
parishioner of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral.
          
          WILLIAM MCMENEMON
    William Francis "Mac" McMenemon, 77, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and
resident of Houma, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, Feb.  1, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St.
Bernadette Catholic Church.
    Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with interment in
Lakelawn Park Mausoleum in New Orleans.
    He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Olivier, one son, Michael Francis
McMenemon of Prairieville; one daughter Phyllis Margaret Copeland of Metairie;
two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
    He was preceded in death by his paarents, James and Margaret Higgins
McMenemon; three brothers, Thomas, James and John McMenemon; and one
sister , Rita McDonald.
    He was a U.S. Army World War II
 and Korean War veteran, a member of
the American Legion Post 31 in Houma, a member of the American Legion post
in Thibodaux, a member of the YMCA, a member of Mended Hearts, Inc., Inc.
and a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

    Joshua M. Poiencot, 22, a native of Houma and resident of Magnolia, Ark.,
died at 11:24 a.m. Sunday, Jan.  31, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 2 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Samart Funeral Home
and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic
Church in Houma.
    Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in the church
cemetery.
    He is survived by his fiancee, Stephanie Brown; his father, Michael
Poiencot of Houma; his mother, Susan Armond Gregory of Mount Juliet, Tenn.;
his stepmother, Paula Poiencot of Houma; his stepfather, William Gregory of
Mount Juliet; his paternal grandparents, Edward and Marie Boudoin Poiencot
SR.; his maternal grandparents, Houston and Shirley LeBouef Armond; one

    Joseph Camille Lirette, 52, a native of St. Charles Community and resident
of Thibodaux, died at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.  16, 1999.

Church in Thibodaux.
    He is survived by four brothers, Lawrence J., Jerry P., Michael J. and
Eulis J. Lirette; four sisters, Rose Billiot, Mrs.  Lawrence (Shirley)
Peltier, Mrs. Whitney (Delta) Adams and Mrs.  Bobby (Rita) Clifton; and by a
number of nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Inez Blanchard
Lirette; one sister, Bernice Lirette Burnham; and his companion, Gerald
Wagner.
          
          MILDRED SMITH
    Mildred Smith, 76, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma,
died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan.  31, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Morning Star
Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church,
with burial in the Combo Cemetery.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Robertson, her parents,
Frank "Buttee" and Octavia Thomas, one daughter; and one brother, Hildred
Thomas.
    She was a retired employee of Kingley House Nursery and Child Care
Center in New
 Orleans.
          
          LORETTA TUCKER
    Loretta Pellegrin Tucker, 59, a native of Houma and resident of Chauvin,
died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.  2, 1999.
    Visittation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the Knights of Columbus
Hall in Chauvin and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Chauvin.
    Mass will be at 10 a.m.Thursday at the church, with burial in the church
cemetery.
    She is survived by her husband, Ramon Tucker; one son, Chris L. Tucker;
one daughter, Sharon T. Thomassie; one brother, Mark Pellegrin; and two
sisters, Betty Barrios and Gail Grissom.
    She was preceded indeath by her parents, Joseph and Lela Authement
Pellegrin; two sons, Michael and Ramon Tucker Jr.; and one daughter, Mary

    Owen Michael "Mike" Candies Sr., 56, a native and resident of Thibodaux,

from 8 am. to funeral time Friday at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Mass

    He is survived by his wife, Regin Verdin Candies; his mother, Bessie B.
Candies; two sons, Shane and Owen Candies Jr.; one daughter, Tanya Candies;
and five grandchildren.

    Askia N. Celestine, 25, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
Baton Rouge, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999.

Church in Gray.  Wake services will be at 8 p.m. today at the church. 
Dismissal services will be at 11 a.m. Friday  at the church, with burial in
Halfway Cemetery in Gray.
    She is survived by her mother, Norma Jean Coleman; her father, Tyrone
Celestine; and her stepfather, Freddie Coleman; one brother, Shannus Celestine
of Alexandria; and three sisters, Tamakia Coleman of Anchorage, Alaska,
Felicia Coleman of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tara Brown of Houma.
   
 She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Otis Celestine.
    She was employed as a sales person and was a member of First Evening
Star Baptist Church.
          
          
          NELSON CHERAMIE JR.
    Nelson Gary Cheramie Jr., 60, a native of Houma and resident of Grand
Isle, died at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999.

Funeral Home in Cut Off. Mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Galliano, with burial in the church cemetery.
    He is survived by his father, Nelson Gary Cheramie Sr. two sons, Kevin
and Nelson G. Cheramie III; two daughters, Mary Beth Hebert and Frazia
Terrebonne; one brother, Keeland Cheramie; one sister, Frazia Schexnaydre; and
11 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Solar Cheramie.
    He was a retired psychotherapist.

    Anton Louis Wald Sr., 85, a native of New Orleans and resident of Kenner,

    Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with
interment in Carrollton Cemetery.
    He is survived by two sons, John B. and Anton L. Wald Jr., both of
Kenner, and two grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Savona Wald; his parents,
John and Eva Heim Wald; one brother, Elvin Wald, and four sisters, Clementine
W. Daix, Lucille Wald, Mildred W. Modica and Lillian W. Lagraize.
    He was the co-owner with his two sons of Southeast Louisiana Live stock

    Margaret Wilson White, 71, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
Houma, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999.

Willis Funeral Home.
    Wake services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist
Church in Gibson. Dismissal services will be at 11 a.m. church, with

    She is survived by her husband, C

Beulah Calloway Wilson of Gibson; one son,  Leo Randolph White Sr. of

    She was a retired cook for the Terrebonne Parish  School Board and a

          TERREBONNE PARISH HOUMA, LA

          FORMER NICHOLLS VICE PRESIDENT DIES.
    Othel Eugene Lovell Jr., a retired vice president at Nicholls    State
University and amember of its staff for almost three decades, died Thursday at
Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. He was 70.
    Lovell, the one-time vice president of academic affairs, retired in 1989.  
He also served as dean of the graduate school and taught night graduate
classes during his tenure at Nicholls.
    "Everyone who is willing to work ought to be given the opportunity to
get an advanced education," he once said.
    Lovell earned a bachelor's degreefrom Northwestern State University in
Natchitoche
s in 1949. He attended Louisiana State University, earning a
master's of education degree in 1956 and his doctorate in 1961.
     Lovell, a native of Shreveport, joined Nicholls' staff  in 1962 as
director of student teaching.
    "Dr. Lovell was an integral part of the Nicholls community ... and will be
missed by those of us who had the pleasure of working with him,"University
President Donald Ayo said in a written statement.
    Lovell's service to the area reached beyond the Nicholls campus. He served
as captain in the Army Reserves,  past president of the Thibodaux Rotary Club,
past district chairman of the Boy Scouts ofAmerica, senior warden of the St.
John's Episcopal Church vestry and commissioner for the Lafourche Parish Fire
Protection District No. 4.
    "He was the treasurer and did a very outstanding job of getting money
together and paying the debt off for the fire equipment and fire trucks," said
Jerry Ledet, fire district chairman. "He was a good public servant."
    Lovell is survived by his wife, Rosemary Fleming Lovell; one son, Bruce
LaCombe;  one daughter, Ahcia Lovell Moore; and three grand-children.
    Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. John's
Episcopal Church in Thibodaux.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday
at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations.

          BERNARD BOYNE
    Bernard Joseph Boyne, 76, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
Houma, died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Francis
de Sales Cathedral. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with
burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
    He is survived by one daughter, Julie B. Keife of Houma; one brother,
Ronald Boyne; two sisters, Anna Guidry and Evelyn Schoonenberg; and two
grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Achee Boyne; and his
parents, Andrew and Mary Belanger Boyne.
    He was a retired hospital administrator for St. Anne General Hospital, a
a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran and a parishioner of St.
Francis de Sales Cathedral.
          
          GEORGE CLEMENT
    George Wilbert Clement,  67, a native of Chackbay, and resident of
Chauvin, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time
Saturday  at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the
funeral home, with burial in St. Elie Cemetery.
    He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Naquin Clement; three sons, Craig
P. and George W. Clement Jr., both of Houma, an
d Brian A. Clement
of Chauvin; seven brothers, Richard, Hubert, Mercy, Ben, Steve and
Huey Clement, all of Chackbay, and Frank Clement of Kraemer; three sisters,
Joyce Robinson of Chackbay, Jeanette Brunet of Houma, and Nell Lefont of
Westwego; and six grandchildren. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Clement.
    He was employed as a meter man at Texaco, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam
    War veteran and a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
          
          
          PHILMORE DUPLANTIS JR.
    Philmore S. Duplantis Jr., 59, a native and resident of Houma, died at 8
p.m.  Thursday Feb. 4, 1999.

Home in Crowley, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
    He is survived by three sons, Donald and Mark Wriborg, bothe of Gibson,

    He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, a U.S. National Guard Veteran

Isabelle Robichaux and Annie LeBoeuf.
    He was employed by Higgins Shipyard in New Orleans. He was also a
member of Knights of Columbus Council #5545, 3rd degree knight a member of
the Holy Name Society; an usher at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Francis
de Sales Cathedral; during World War 11, he was with the Civil Defense; a
member of the East Park Volunteer Fire Department and was a special deputy for
Terrebonne Parish for many years. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic
Church and St. Louis Catholic Church.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, L. S. and Myrtle Amerson

    Francis George Larose Jr., 71, a native and resident of Houma, died at
2:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 1999.
    Graveside services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia
Cemetery.
    He is survived by his former wife, Patsy Ruth Henry Larose of Houma; two
sons, Brian W. Larose of Houma and Mark W. Larose of LaPlace; one daughter,
Leigh A. Larose of Houma', two sisters, Marion Larose Dupont of Houma and
Barbara Jean Carter of Henderson, Texas; and three grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis George Sr. and Alva
Levee Wright Larose.
    He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was also a member of 
the
Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

    He is survived by his wife, Adela Lafont Pierce; five sons, Arthur,
Curtis, Jessel, Bryant and Patton Pierce; two daughters, Priscilla Pierce
Trahan and Mona Pierce Danos; three sisters, Bernice Pierce Lerille, Gertie
Pierce Gentry and Bessie Pierce Dufrene; 16 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Syres Pierce and Elucia
Terrebonne Pierce; two brothers, Nessie Pierce Sr. and Milton Pierce; and one
grandchild, Sarah Monica Pierce.
    He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the American
Legion and V.F.W., a past member of Knights of Columbus and a member of the
Board of Directors of the Cut Off  Senior Citizens.

Joseph's Italian Society, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus
and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.

    He is survived by two sisters, Giselle Arcement Holmes and Demetra      
Arcement, both of Thibodaux; one brother, Ernest Arcement of Thibodaux; and
his companion, Zandrea Jupiter of Napoleonville.
    He was preceded in death by his mother,  Annie Bell Jackson Areement; his
father, Ernest Williams Jr.; and his grandmothers, Lou Ella Jackson and Aldina
Lawrence.

DARREN GILFOUR
    Darren Michael Gilfour, 33, and five of Raceland and resident of Houma,
died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral
time Saturday at Samart Funeral Home in Houma.  Funeral services will be at 11
a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in New Hope Cemetery.
    He is survived by his companion, Kathey Boykin; his parents, Roy and
Bertie Gilfour; his grandparents, Dewey and Violet Dupre; one brother, Dwayne
Gilfour; and one sister, Donna Gilfour.
    
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Junius and Rose Adams
Gilfour.


CORINNE HEBERT
    Corinne Gros Hebert, 82, a native and resident of Thibodaux, died at 3:55
a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Landry"s
Funeral Home in Thibodaux.  Mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph
Co-Cathedral, with burial in the church cemetery.
    She is survived by three sons, David, Kenneth and O'Neil Hebert Jr.; one
daughter, Ida Mae Toups; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. .
    She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Neil Joseph Hebert Sr.; her
parents, Clarence and Ida Gravois Gros; one son, Ronald Hebert;  two brothers,
Claude and Clarence Hebert Jr.; and one sister, Rose Mary Hebert.


JOYCE JOSEPH
    Joyce Francis Joseph, 50, a native of Labadieville and resident of
Thibodaux, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999.
    Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at New Morning
Star Baptist Church in Labadieville.
    Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in
the church cemetery.
    She is survived by her husband, Louis Joseph Jr. of Thibodaux; two sons,
Mark Washington and Elijah Joseph, both of Thibodaux; one daughter, Samantha
Joseph of Thibodaux; five brothers, Willie Francis of Edgard, Irvin Mitchell
of Mid
land, Texas, Lloyd Thomas of Pineville, Ernest Joseph of New Orleans,
and Royal Francis of Thibodaux; four sisters, Lula Jackson, Ruby Neal and
Annie Reed, all of Thibodaux, and Effie Price of Labadieville; and seven
grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Corrine Francis; and
two brothers, Silas and Charlie Francis.


ROBERT MOORMAN
    Robert Onnie Moorman, 79, a native of Votaw, Texas, and former resident
of Houma, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 in Miami, Fla.
    Visitation will be from noon to funeral time Saturday at Batson Prairie
Baptist Church in Batson, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday
at the church, with burial in Guedry Cemetery in Daisetta, Texas.
    He is survived by three sons, David and Hulon Moorman, both of Miami,
and Lawrence "Wayne" Moorman of Portland, Ind.; two sisters, Alma Coppock
of Bay City, Texas, and Athie White of Temple, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
    He was a retired drilling manager for Sun Oil Company.

    Lawrence "Larry" Prosperie, 61, a native of Montegut and resident of
Houma, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999.

JOHN SHEARER
    John William Shearer, 48, a native and resident of Laurel, Miss., died at
10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb.24, 1999 after along illness with muscular
dystrophy.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ellisville Church of Christ
in Ellisville, Miss.
    He is survived by his wife, Karen Strong Shearer of Laurel; his mother,
Ruby Shearer of Houma; one brother, Ray Shearer Jr. of Conroe, Texas; one
sister, Sue DeRoche of Houma; and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Shearer Sr.; three brothers,
Marvin, Brent, and Jim Shearer; and one sister, Faye Bergeron.
    Although he was disabled, he was an active fund-raiser for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association and a member of the Ellisville Church of Christ.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular
Dystrophy Association.

    Gabriel Earnest "Gabe" Watkins Sr., 49, a native of Thibodaux and
resident of Napoleonville, died Tuesday, Feb.23, 1999.

    Carrie Boykins, 88, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma,

with burial in the church cemetery.
    She is survived by one brother, Abe Johnson.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas  Boykins; her parents,
Josephine J. Johnson and Phillip Anderson; her stepfather, Abe Johnson Sr.;
and one brother, James 
Johnson.
    She was a member of Eastern Star, a member of Church Steward Board
and a member of New St. Paul Baptist Church.

    Clarence Jackson, 89, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
Lafourche Parish, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999.
    Visitation will be from I to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Community Funeral Home
and from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morning Star Baptist Church.  Wake services
will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Dismissal services will be at 11 a.m.
Monday at the church, with burial in Livas Lane Cemetery.
    He is survived by two sons, Calvin and Larry Jackson; three daughters,
Clara Joseph, Geraldine Jackson and Betty Keller; 28 grandchildren; 51
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte E. H. Jackson; his
parents, James and Sophia Jackson; two sons, Morris and Floyd Jackson; three
brothers, Lawrence, Jeffery and Terry Jackson; and three sisters, Hattie,
Idell and Bell Jackson.
    He was a member of the Masons and a member of Morning Star Baptist
Church.

    Basil D. Gentry, D.D.S., 70, a native of Tampa, Fla. and resident of
Larose died at 9:28 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.

    He was a World War 11 Army veteran and graduated from Loyola School

    David Ray Gunter, 68, a native of New Iberia and resident of Harvey, died
at 1:19 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999.

Ada Colonge, Mary Ann Vanacor, and Catherine Ford; nine grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Pearl McCort Gunter;
his foster-parents, Milliam Sr. and Lydia Bergeron Ford; two brothers, Donald
Elmer and Terry Guy Gunter; five foster-brothers, Earl, Patrick, Paul, Douglas
and William Ford Jr.; one sister, Ella Mae Mensmon; and one foster-sister,

    He was manager of Property and Retail Sales and was in the U.S. Marine
Corps.


VIOLET HUE
    Violet "Vi" Hue, 72, a native of Long Island, N.Y. and resident of
Lafayette, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.

    She is survived by her former husband, Junius Hue of Bayou Blue; one

    Jean "Johnny" Augustin Navarre, 86, a native and resident of Labadieville,
