  Catholic Church in Cut Off.  Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church,
  with  burial in the church cemetery.
      He is survived by his wife, Gail Defelice Adams; two sons, Carl and Dean
  M. Adams; one daughter, Linda A. Louvierre; one brother, Whitney Adams Jr.,
  one sister, Betty A. Phillips; and seven grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney and Armance Rodigue
  Adams Sr.

 ALVIN LEDET
      Alvin J. Ledet, 66, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of
 Chauvin, died at 3:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov.  30, 1997.

  time Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chauvin.  Mass will be at 19
  a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin, with burial in the

      He is survived by his wife, Ethel LeBoeuf Ledet, four daughters, Mrs. 
  Charles (Janet) Portier, Mrs.  Norton ( Karen) Simoneaux, Mrs.  Edward
  (Susan) West and Mrs Nathan (Rhoda) Guilfou; two brothers, William Ledet Sr.
  of Bayou Blue, and Henry Ledet Jr. of Pointe-aux-Chenes; two sisters, Mrs. 
  Roy (Jeanette) Picou at Chauvin, and Mrs.  Wiley (Gertrude) Trahan of Houma;
  eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Joseph and Sedonia Dupre
  Ledet Sr.; one daughter, Lorraine Ledet; and two sisters, Wilma Daigle and
  Clothilde Picou.
      He was a retired employee of Texaco Oil Company.
 
 JEFFEREY RAKIGJIJA
      Jeffrey L. Rakigija, 18, a native of the United States and resident of
  Heidelberg, Germany, died Monday, Nov.  24, 1997.
      Mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at St. Genevieve Cath
olic Church in
  Thibodaux, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
      He was survived by his parents, Mirko and Emma Jane Jeffers Rakigjija;
  three brothers, Mirko, Nicholas and Alexander Rakigijija; and his
  grandmother, Elena Rakigjija.
 
 CORRECTIONS
 
 Obituary information provided for Friday's Courier incorrectly listed a
 daughter of Benton Joseph "Benny"Lovoi Sr. He is survived by two daughters,
 Lee Lovoi and Luci Sposito.
 
 Friday's Courier omitted the son of Jan-Rae Marie Sevin in her obituary.  
 She is survived by one son, Brandon Michael Dupre.

      She is survived by her son, Lynn J. Callahan Jr. of Houma; one daughter,
  Shirley DiGiovanni of Metairie; four grandchildren; and five
  great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn J. Callahan Sr.; her
  parents, Wilfred and Alida Sognier LeBlanc; seven brothers, Clifford, Harry,
  Ivy Edward, Willie, Ar
mond and Wilson LeBlanc; and two sisters, Anna Rogers
  and Odette Lampley.

  Funeral Home.  Mass was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with
  burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No.  2.
      He is survived by one son, Paris Jude Falgout of Houma; and three
  sisters, Beverly Falgout Boudreaux and Patricia Falgout, both of Houma; and
  three sisters, and Lua Rita Falgout Price of Chauvin.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Marcel Falgout; his
  parents, Clifford and Laurita Hebert Falgout Sr.; and one brother, Clifford
  Falgout Jr.
      He was a retired office manager for Patterson Service, Inc., and a
  parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

      Patricia Deroche Landry, 42, a native of Raceland and resident of Des
  Allemands, died at 12:52 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 1997.

      He was an employee of the Sewer and Drainage Department for
  Terrebonne Parish, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a member of

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Joseph Pitre; her

  Pitre; one daughter, Rose Marie Pitre; three brothers, Clarence, Raymond and
  John Bergeron Sr.; and one great-grandchild, Christopher Quinly.
      She was a retired janitor for Terrebonne Parish School Board and a
  parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

      Irvin Joseph "Roby" Robichaux, 75, a native of Bourg and resident of
  Houma, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.  3, 1997.

  time Friday at Chauvin Funeral Home.  Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at

      He is survived by his wife, Velma Naquin Robichaux of Houma; one
  brother, Edward Robichaux of Houma; five sisters, Thelma Robichaux and
  Gertrude Robichaux Price , all of Houma, Lena Robichaux Brunet of Chauvin,

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Davis Sr.; her parents,

      She was a member of American Legion Post No. 513 Auxiliary, a member
  of the Usher Board No. 2, and a deaconess and member of Moses Baptist

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Ashton Paul Clement and Flore

 RUBY COLLUM 
      Ruby Jewel Rigginbotham Collum, 75, a native of Mexia, Texas, and
  resident of Houma, died at 12:50 p.m. today at Samart Funeral Home.  A
  second visitation will take place Tuesday in Kilgore, Texas, at Rader

      She is survived by one son, James Edward Brown; one brother, Andrew
  Woodward Higginbotham Jr. of Longview, Texas; three grandchildren, Kim

  of San Antonio, Texas; and six great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Russell Collum; one
  daugher, Margaret LeBoeuf; one brother, James Aubry Higginbotham; and two
  sisters, Myrtle Marie Higginbotham Oliver.
      She was a Baptist.  She was a member of Eastern Star and served as the
  queen 
of the Krewe of Flames in 1966.
 
 CATHERINE DEAN
      Catherine Duval Dean, 81, a native of Houma and resident of Albuquerque,
  N. M., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997.
      A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in
  Houma, but a date and time have not yet bee scheduled.  The service will be
  followed by burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
      She is survived by one son, Mac Dean of Albuquerque, and former
  resident of Houma; one brother, Standwood Duval Sr. of Houma; and three
  grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean, her parents,
  Stanwood and Mamie Richardson Duval; one brother, former State Sen. Claude
  B. Duval.
      She was an Episcopalian.  She moved to Albuquerque a few years ago to
  be near her son and grandchildren.
 
 SHEDRICK DOMINIQUE
      Shedrick Joseph Dominique, 74, a native and resident of Gheens, died at
  8:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1997.
      Visitation will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Monday at Falgout Funeral Home in
  Lockport and from 7 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic

  St. Rose and Randell Firmin of Oak Creek, Wis.; one brother, Royce Firmin of
  Port Neches, Texas; two stepsons and three stepdaughters.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Michell and Rosalie Firmin.
      He was a retired electrician and a parishioner of Christian Community
  Fellowship Church in Houma.

  retired professor of music at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.

      She was a retired teacher and guidance counselor, jobs she worked for 42

 RETIRED EDUCATOR ADAMS DIES AT 73
      A retired Thibodaux educator died Wednesday at his home.
      A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at
  Christ the Re
deemer Church in Thibodaux for Dr. William H. Adams III, 73, a
  native of Alexandria and resident of Thibodaux.
      Adams is the retired head of history department at Nicholls State
  University.
      He came to Nicholls as an associate professor of social sciences in 1963
  and was made department head in 1964.
      Between then and the time of his retirement in 1991, the department was
  renamed the department of history.
      He also taught at Louisiana State University ;in Baton Rouge,
  Northwestern and Southwestern universities.
      Adams presided over the Louisiana Historical Association for a time and
  was widely published on the subject of antebellum Louisiana."  Michael
  Delaune, director of University Relations at Nicholls said his colleagues
  also said he was particularly known as an expert on Whigs political party."
      Dr. J. Paul Leslie Jr., a colleague of Adams and a current professor of
  history at Nicholls said Adams was viewed as a demanding but fair teacher.

   Randall Domangue; his mother-in-law, Jan Rae Savin; and one sister, Tina

  EFFIE MCVAY
       Effie McVay, 45, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Biloxi,

   Miss.  died Friday, Dec.  26, 1997.
       Visitation will be from 6 6o 10 p.m. Monday a Howard Avenue Chapel in
   Biloxi.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel with
   burial in Biloxi City Cemetery.
       She is survived by her husband, Eugene McVay Sr. of Biloxi; her mother,
   Bessie Lodrigue; two sons, Eugene III and Emmitt McVay, both of Biloxi;
   four sisters, Gloria Crappel of Harvey, Florence Defelice and Bessie
   Welsch, both of Dulac, and Mary Gregoire of Houma; four brothers, Anthony
   Lodrigue of Houma, and Lawrence, Jimmy and Henry Lodrigue, all of Dulac;
   and two grandchildren.
       She was preceded in death by her father, Antony Lodrigue.
       Sje was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Biloxi.  She was a
   resident of the Gulf Coast for 29 years.

       William Daniel "Mr. Bill" Payne, 89, a native of Hamilton, Texas, and
   resident of Houma, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec.  25, 1997.
       Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral
   time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home.  Religious services will be at 10 a.m.
   Monday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Terrebonne Memorial Park.
       He is survived by his wife Marguerite Louise Stroud Payne of Houma; one
   brother, George Payne of Houma; one sister, Susie Wag

   Texas.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Bertie Barnard
   Payne; one brother, Ross Payne; and one sister, Bertie Mae Payne.
       He was a member of Christ Baptist Church in Houma.  He served in the
   U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a member of American Legion Post No. 
   31 (Lennox Hotard).  He was a retired meter mechanic for Freeport McMoran
   Co.

       Albert M. Scott Jr., 73, a native and resident of Chauvin, died at 7:30
   p.m. Wednesday, Dec.  24, 1997.  Funeral services were held Saturday at
   Grace Christian Church in Houma.
       He is survived by his longtime companion, Velma White; three sons,
   Albert III, Paul and Joseph Scott; three stepsons, Jackson, Chester and
   Charles White; three daughters, Betty Gautreaux, Lucy Smith and Gail
   Authement; five step-daughters, Vera Landry, Patty Robicheaux, Debra Duval,
   Angelina Smith and Tina Dardar; seven brothers, Ruben, Weldon, Donald,
   Kenneth, Ronnie and Robert Scott, and Milton Scott of California; four
   sisters, Jeanette, Elsie, Florence and Nora Scott; 18 grandchildren; 21
   step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and
 two great-great-
   grandchildren.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Magnus and Julia Martin
   Scott; one son, Howard White Jr.; two sisters, Lou Ella Savin, Delta Scott;
   two grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
       He was a member of God's House of Restoration in Chauvin.  He was a
   retired fisherman.

       Drew Alonzo Stretch, 83, a native of Dallas and resident of Houma, died
   at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.  24, 1997.
       Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time today at Chauvin Funeral
   Home.  Religious services will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home
   chapel.  A grave side service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Shreveport 
   with burial at Greenwood Cemetery No.  2.
       He is survived by one son, J.C. Stretch of Houma; one daughter,
   Jeanette Duval of Morgan City; three brothers, Tommy B. Stretch of
   :Haynesville, Jimmy Lee Stretch of Cherokee Village, Ark., and George
   Stretch of Chicago; three sisters, Hattie Johnson of Cherokee Village;
   Doreen Davis of San Antonio, and Dubbie Barnett of La Ferria, Texas; five
   grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
       He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Naomi Johnson Stretch; his
   parents, George and Datherine Spray Stretch; two brothers, Jess A. and
   George Edward 
Stretch; and two sisters, Juanita Mae Hyde and Corine Davis.  
       He was a member of Coteau Baptist Church.  He was a member of Unity
   Lodge 267 F&AM and Cedar Grove Masonic Lodge of Shreveport.  He was a

great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and

               Onerippe Joseph Robichaux, 100, a native and resident of Bourg,
died at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec.  28, 1997.

Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church.  Mass
will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
               He is survived by one son, Larry "Zip" Robichaux; five
grandchildren, and  10 great-grandchildren.
               He was preceded in death by his wife, Zeltha Hebert Robichaux;
his parents, Frank and Lucy Domingue Robichaux; one son, Lloyd Robichaux; and
one brother, Dennis Robichaux.
               He was a retired self-employed merchant, a US.  Army veteran of
World War I, a lifetime member of B.& P.Q. Elks Lodge No.  1193 in Houma, a
lifetime  member of the American Legion Post No.  31 who served as post
commander in  the 1930's, a member of World War I "Forty and Eight Voiture
Locale" Barracks 1464 of Houma, a member of local camp Woodmen of the World
for the past 50 years and a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church.
          
          LESTER RUFFIN
               Lester Ruffin, 64, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident
of Houma, died Friday, Dec.  26, 1997.

Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
               He is survived by his wife, Sarah Odom Ruffin; four sons,
Anthony and Rickey Ruffin, both of New York City, NY, Allen Simmons of Bronx;
NY.  And Lester Ruffin Jr. of Yonkers, NY; two daughters, Diane and Patricia
Ruffin, both of New York City; two brothers, Louis Ruffin of Houma, and
Freddie Ruiffin of Bronx; one sister, Sarah B. Chapman of Houma; and 12
grandchildren.
               He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mary Allen
Ruffin; four brothers, Lloyd, James "Bro", Allen and the Rev. Willie Ruffin;
and five sisters, Cecilia and Gertie Mae Ruffin, Mildred Daniels, Ora Mae
Dunaway and Ouida Bell Ruffin.
               He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Luke Baptist

          BESSIE WELSH
               Bessie Falterman Welsh, 85, a native and resident of
Napoleonville, died at 12 1.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997.

               He is survived by is wife, Mary Lee Naquin Boudreaux of
Montegut; three sons, Leray, Curtis and Victor Boudreaux, all of Houma; one
daughter, Mrs.  Jody (Lainey) Breaux of Houma; two brothers, Joe Boudreaux of
Bayou Blue, and Robin Boudreaux of Larose; six sisters, Lona Pellegrin and
Ouida Breaux,  both of Houma, Veronica Authement and Connie Guy, both of
Chauvin, Alice Bourg of Bayou Blue, and Mary Lou Breaux of Braxton, Miss; and
11 grandchildren.
               He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucille
Marie Luke  Boudreaux; his grandparents, Joe and Veleda Toups Boudreaux and
Frank and Rose Eva LeBlanc Luke; two brothers, Eulis and Lonnie Boudreaux;
three sisters, Shirley 
Mae and Bernadette Boudreaux and Joyce Breaux; and one
grandson, Joshua Boudreaux.

               He was a supply boat captain for Tidewater Marine, Inc. of
Amelia for 18 years and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

               Ellis Plaisance Jr., 77, a native of Larose and resident of
Galliano, died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.  30, 1997.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow.  Mass will be at 1
p.m.  Wednesday at the church, with burial in Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.
               He is survived by his wife, Selvida Cheramie Plaisance; one
son, Burgess Plaisance; two daughters, Alverna Plaisance Blanchard and Anna
Marie Plaisance Delatte; two sisters, Anna Belle Plaisance Pierce and Laura
Mae Plaisance Anselmi; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
               He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis J. and Lucy
Melancon Plaisance Sr.; five brothers, Enis, Eric, Edwis, Whitney, and Dudley
Plaisance; one sister, Jean Plaisance Griffin; and one grandchild, Dawn

               Hazel Giroir Schlaefli, 88, a native of Grand Caillou and

               She was a homemaker and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic

               Robert "Bobby" Trosclair, 73, a native of Houma and resident of
Grand Caillou, died at 11:58 a.m. Saturday, Dec.  17, 1997.

Morning Star Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at

in Celestin Garden of Memories Cemetery.
               He is survived by four daughters, Beverly Ann and Tesria Nyree
Trosclair  and Valerie Trosclair Commodore, all of Houma, and Thersea
Trosclair Hall of  Stone Mountain, Ga.; one brother, Elijah Trosclair of
Houma; one sister, Gladys T. Sullivan of New Orleans; 15 grandchildren; and
eight great-grandchildren.
               He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Spencer
Trosclair; his  parents, Rene and Bessie Trosclair; one son.  Robert

          ROLAND DUVAL SR.
               Roland "Bauch" Duval Sr., 71, a native of Bayou Long and
resident of Gibson, died at 8:23 p.m. Monday Dec.  29, 1887.

Catholic Church in Morgan City, with burial in Morgan City Cemetery.
               He is survived by his wife, Marion Duval of Gibson; six sons,

               Charles Raymond Landeche Sr., 77, a native of St. Rose and

sisters, Odeessa Larsen of Slidell, and Hazel Jarveaux of Houma; 41
grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-

               She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonce Joseph Portier
Sr.; her parents, Edmund Francois and Aglia Elizabeth Duplantis Jarveaux; two
sons, Donald and Leo

Frankie and Benjamin Jarveaux; and one sister, Rita Atkinson.
               She was a retired school teacher a Lache Elementary School, a
retired cafeteria manager for Terrebonne Parish School Board, president of
Hi-Risers Club, a member of the Catholic Daughters, a member of Terrebonne
Council on Aging and a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
          
          TAYLOR SULLIVAN
               Taylor Patrick Sullivan, four months, a native and resident of
New Orleans, died Tuesday, Dec., 30, 1997.
               Visitation was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to funeral time today
at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church.  Mass was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at
the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
               He is survived by his parents, Terry and Danna Schwab Sullivan
of New  Orleans; his maternal grandparents, Herman and Carol Ann Alexander
Sullivan of Houma; his great-grandparents, Me.  And Mrs.  Murray Alexander,
Mr. and Mrs Carl Heck of Thibodaux and Amy Schwab of Labadieville; and one
sister, Abby  Catherine Sullivan of New Orleans.
               He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, the Rev.
and Mrs.  H. T. Sullivan and Sidney Schwab.
