REED, ALFRED JOSEPH
Alfred Joseph Reed, 94, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.  He was a 
resident of Hammond and before retiring, worked for more than 30 years as 
an employee and supervisor for the city of Hammond. He was a World War II 
veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Reed lived a full and 
passionate life, touching people around him genuinely with encouraging 
words.  He is survived by his wife, Idella Reed; 10 sons, Leon (Nettie), 
Henry (Kim), Alfred James (Velvilane), Edward (Gwandolyn), Reginald, 
Albert, Kennedy (Meshel), Claude (Lorraine), Adrian (Tonia), Robert 
(Teshawn), 9 daughters, Evelyn (Walter) Daniels, Kathryn (James) Mack, 
Cassandra (Mack) Dillingham, Barbara (Rick) Gill, Pat, Georgette (Timothy) 
Daniels, Belinda (Jerry) Cox, Claudette (Ronald) Matthews, Margaret 
(Pernell) Dykes; 2 sisters, Elvena Reed Bryant, Sylvia Reed Robinson; 53 
grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.  He 
was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Godivia Reed; his first 
wife, Maggie Lindsey; brothers Walter and Henry; and sister Ruby.  Viewing 
will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, La., 
from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Mass will start at 11 a.m.  Interment will 
immediately follow at Rose Memorial Mausoleum, Hammond, La.; Wright & 
Calvey Funeral Home.

A native and resident of Amite, she died at 5 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 
1999, at Hood Memorial Hospital, Amite. She was 76. Visiting at First 
Baptist Church, Amite, 10 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 2 p.m., 
conducted by Brother David Fortenberry. Interment in Amite Cemetery. 
Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Charles "Bob" Reed 
Jr. and Nancy Reed, Brandon, Miss., and Patrick James "Pat" and Lillian 
Reed, Houston; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Reed "Libby" Lawrence, Amite; 
eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Albert 
Brooks Jr., La Marque, Texas, and Richard Brooks, Kentwood; and five 
sisters, Dorothy Brooks, Kentwood, Mildred Easley and Beverly LeTard, 
both of Amite, Helen Sue Gates, Kentwood, and Catherine Wright, 
Fairhope, Ala. Preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Robert C. Reed, 
U.S. Army; and parents, Albert and Betty Brooks. McKneely Funeral Home,

REED, CHARLES DORSETT
Charles Dorsett "Charlie" Reed, 90 years old, died at St. Joseph Hospice, 
Carpenter House, Baton Rouge, on September 4, 2013. Born in Springdale, Ar, 
he was a Hammond resident since 2005, and was being cared for at Country 
Manor Nursing Home in St. Francisville until a recent illness. He is 
survived by his wife, Bonnie Bell Bayless Reed of Hammond; two daughters, 
Pamela Ann Reed Shepherd of Downsville, La., and Deborah Jane Reed Teel of 
Humble, Tx., and a son, Charles Kent "Chuck" Reed of Hammond; a sister, 
Betty Lou Reed Smith of Weatherford, Tx., seven grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Michael Dean 
Reed of New Orleans. Mr. Reed was a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot in the Army 
Air Corps during WWII, flying 33 combat missions in the South Pacific 
theatre, for which he was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Air Medal during 
the New Guinea and Bismarck-Archipelago Campaigns. His professional career 
was with J.C. Penny Co. as an assistant manager before the war, and 
returned as a store manager in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. He 
was a member of the Masons and the Eastern Star, an Ordained Deacon of the 
Baptist organization, and a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church in 
Hammond. in 1995, at the age of 72, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science 
degree in Biology at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond as the 
oldest graduate in SLU history. Visitation for family and friends will be 
held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Saturday, September 
7th from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests 
donations to St. Joseph Hospice, Carpenter House, in Baton Rouge, or the 
Louisiana American Red Cross. The family also wishes to thank the many 
friends, doctors and nurses who cared for him during his final illness, and 
their many prayers are most appreciated.

REED, CLARENCE H., II
Ithaca, N.Y. - Clarence H. Reed II, 75, St. Helena High School's first
football coach, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Cayuga Medical Center.
Born in New Orleans, he married Eunice Paddio in 1949. The couple had five
children, Clarence Reed III of Columbus, Ohio, Henry Reed of Cavite City,
Philippines, Bertrand Reed of Ithaca, N.Y., and Ce'cile Reed-Randolph of
Keller, Texas; and Deidre Reed-Dyson, who preceded him in death. He was a
graduate of Grambling State University and Louisiana State University. He
was a teacher in the St. Helena Parish School District in Greensburg for 20
years. He was an active member of the Louisiana Interscholastic Athletic
and Literary Organization, president to the St. Helena Parish Education
Association of the Louisiana Education Association and the National
Education Association, a Boy Scout master, a 4-H leader and trustee and
member of the Gospel Choir at Turner Chapel AME Church, a member of the
Saddle and Bridle Horseman's Club and charter member of the St. Helena
Parish Employees Federal Credit Union, a civil rights activist, as well as
a "sundown" farmer.  Before beginning a second career at Cornell University
in 1972, he was employed by Floridana Community Action Agency serving
Tangipahoa, Washington and St. Helena parishes. During his Cornell years,
he was an adjunct professor and director of the Committee on Special
Educational Projects in the Human Service Studies Department for the
College of Human Ecology. He retired in 1994. His Ithaca community service
included the Ithaca Planning Board and the Ithaca Urban Renewal Agency. He
was a active member of the National Association of African American RVers
Association; New York Ravens chapter.  Other survivors include his wife,
Beverly J.C. Reed; one sister, Joycelyn Hart of Ithaca; eight grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Wells and James Didlick and Gail
Chavis and Julie Didlick, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three stepgrand-
children.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, Clarence H. and
Jersey Johnson Reed.  The Rev. Barry Downing conducted a memorial service
March 20 at First Presbyterian Church, Ithaca. Burial will be April 17 at
Mount Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave., New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a
local charity of one's choice in memory of Clarence Reed, 104 Campbell
Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850.

A resident and native of Loranger, she died at 1:24 p.m. Wednesday, June
29, 2005, at Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, Independence. She was 76.

to 9 p.m. Visitation on Saturday from 8 a.m. until religious service at

Interment in Briar Patch Cemetery, Loranger. She is survived by her
daughter, Avonia Travis, Loranger; son, Ivery Reed Jr., Clinton; brother,
Simpson Neal Jr., Loranger; and two grandchildren, Allyson and Aaron
Travis. Preceded in death by her husband, Ivery Reed Sr.; two sons, Michael
Clark and Otis "Butch" Clark; father, Simpson Neal Sr.; mother, Virena
Neal; stepmother, Piccola Neal; brother, Harvey Neal; and sister, Norma
Davis.

George Bohlinger Reed, 75-years-old of Ponchatoula, La., died Thursday,
December 7, 2006 in Hammond.  George was born Sunday, May 10, 1931 in
Trenton N.J.  He worked as a private detective and was owner of a security
co.  He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Ponchatoula,
In the Gideon Ponchatoula Camp, Promise Keeper, lifetime member of the VFW
served post in the district and state, former member of the Brunswick
County Sheriffs Dept., and also served as a lower court Judge in Brunswick
County.  Surviving are wife, Sarah DeSoto Reed; brother, William Earl
"Bill" Reed; sister, Betty DeLarenzo; step-daughter, Regina Davis Horrell;
two step-sons, Larry Owen Davis and David Anthony DeSoto; grandchild,
Valerian Hamilton.  He was preceded in death by parents: William Earl Reed
and Ester Calvert Bohlinger Reed. First wife: Azalea Lewis Reed. Step-sons:
Glen and Myron Keith Davis.  Friends will be received Friday, December 8 at
Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 6:00 p.m. until 
10:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until services. Services will be
held at the funeral home chapel in Ponchatoula, Saturday, December 9, 2006
at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jake Roudkouski officiating.  Interment will follow

by her mother, Octavia Coleman; her husband, George Reed Sr.; and four 
brothers. Visitation will be today at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Osyka, 
Miss., from 7 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Bertrand Smith will conduct the funeral 
Saturday at 1 p.m., and burial will be in the church cemetery. Richardson 
Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge.

Reed of Springfield and Ronald Reed of Ponchatoula; and one sister, Bessie
McCarter of Hammond.  Visitation will be today at Galilee Baptist Church,
Springfield, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Warren Richards will conduct the
funeral Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the church cemetery.
