Death of E. M. Montecino.

E. Manuel Montecino, prominent retired sugar planter, died at his home in New 
Orleans at 12:20 o'clock a. m. Wednesday, May 10, aged 69 years, and his 
remains were brought to Donaldsonville the following forenoon and laid to rest 
in the Catholic cemetery, after services at Ascension church. Mr. Montecino was 
a native of this parish, where he was born April 5, 1847, and resided in 
Ascension throughout the greater part of his life. He had made his home in New 
Orleans for the past four years. Besides his wife, who was Miss Mary Gonzales, 
he leaves three sons, Messrs. Manuel, Omer and Anthony Montecino; three 
daughters, Mrs. O. Hebert, of Donner; Mrs. Louis I. Nelson and Miss Bertha 
Montecino, of New Orleans; three brothers, Mack Montecino, of White Castle, 
Victor Montecino, of Burton, and Jules Montecino, of New Orleans, and one 
sister, Mrs. Fortune Bourg. Five grandchildren, all of New Orleans, also 
survive him. Mr. Montecino formerly owned the Viola Plantation in West Baton 
Rouge parish.
