Ruston Daily Leader - April 22, 2014
LEON PESNELL

Graveside services for Leon Pesnell, age 82, were held Saturday, April 19,
2014 at Alabama Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Ronnie Flurry,
nephew officiating. Leon was born June 30, 1931 in Lincoln Parish and died at
North Louisiana Medical Center on April 17, 2014 after a short illness due to
complications from cancer. Leon had a career as a long distance truck driver.

He began his career with Paul M. Davison Trucking as one of his first drivers
in the late 1950's and continued to work for many years for Davison Transport.
Later in life he made friends in a three state area selling his hand-made
wares he made in his handle mill in Simsboro. He loved being in his mill all
day making wood handles for tools that in a throwaway society are hard to
find. He worked his mill and traveled with his goods until he was diagnosed
just before Christmas 2013 with cancer.

Leon along with his wife and children lived for brief times in Washington
State, but always returned home to Simsboro. He was a man that kept to
himself, but yet had many friends. In years past, he loved to pick on his old
guitar and sing for or with anyone that would listen. He and his wife Billie
Madge were always more than generous to family and friends with anything they
had and always insisted when visitors left they take something from the garden.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Maggie Pesnell, brothers
William, Lawrence, Velton, Merle and Saxton Pesnell. He is survived by his
wife of 62 years, Billie Madge Woodard Pesnell, daughter Judy Pesnell, and
three sons, Ferrell Pesnell and wife Ann, Greg Pesnell, Tim Pesnell and wife
Robin, special nieces and nephew, Joyce Ann Huntington and David Williams,
along with longtime friends Sonny Fields and Tim Babcock. Leon is also
survived by one sister, Elvia Flurry of El Dorado, AR and numerous other
nieces and nephews. He leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Joseph and
Micheal Pesnell, and 2 great-grandchildren, Torrian Pearson and Rayanna
Pesnell.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Pesnell, Jerry Baker, Dennis Whitten, Trace Talbert,
Randy Callaway and Torrish Pearson.
