and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Marcello and Mary Thibodaux; and
one sister, Priscilla Robichaux.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mom was a faithful wife, a diligent mother and a devout Catholic. She was
unswerving in her commitment to family unity and honoring the traditions and
values of the Marcellos, and as single-minded in developing and nurturing family
loyalty in us, her children. Mom always set high standards for herself and for
us, serving as a model by personal example. There was never an excuse for not
doing the right thing. It was a wonderful gift to us. Mom regularly attended
religious services and was especially fond of listening to the sermons of Bishop
Fulton Sheen in her younger years and received great comfort in attending
charismatic meetings in her later years.
In the last few years, it was with great courage that mom faced the slow
ravaging of her mental capacity. With quiet courage she walked with her
affliction, not straying far or for long from dad whom, despite the malaise, she
knew to be a sure hand and a warm heart. We grieve because we have lost our mom.
We grieve the more because none of us ever had the chance to say goodbye.
Kate was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in Thibodaux. She graduated from Lafourche
Crossing High School in 1942 where she was a member of the basketball team.
After graduating from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans she was
stationed at Camp Hood, Texas, where she attended to injured World War II
soldiers in 1945. She served as a registered nurse at St. Ann's Hospital in
Raceland and St. Joseph Hospital in Thibodaux and was head Nurse at Seiko's
Nursing Home for many years before retirement.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW Post No. 3665, St. Mary's Altar
Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Alheimer's
Association in her honor.
