Joseph E. Stewart
SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Joseph E. Stewart, 75, will be
held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 12, 1999 at Forest Park West. "Military rites
will be conducted by the 12th District, Dept. of LA, Veterans of Foreign
Wars-HONOR GUARD". Officiating will be Rev. Billy Pierce, Pastor of Cypress
Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday at the fu-
neral home Mr. Stewart passed away Thursday, July 8, 1999. He was born in
Haynesville, LA and was a resident of Shreveport, LA for 49 years. He retired
from V.A. Medical Center after 31 years of service. Mr. Stewart was a member
of VFW Post 4588, the American Legion and a member of DAV. He coached Little
League baseball and football for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sybil Stewart and brother
E.L. Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Stewart; one son, Butch Stewart and wife,
Sandy Rayburn Stewart; one daughter, Annette Stewart Hamm, all of Shreveport,
LA; one sister, Margaret Tanner of Collinsville, MS; one brother, Wayman A.
Stewart of Minden, LA, four grandchildren, Chesley Hamm of Houston, TX, Angie
Hamm of Dallas, TX, Dr. Bryan Stewart of Rockingham, NC, Junior Stewart of

Roy Rupert Arthur

MINDEN, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Roy Rupert Arthur, 70, will be held at
10 a.m., Monday, July 12, 1999 at the Shiloh Baptist Church near Springhill,
LA with burial in the Shiloh Cemetery. Services under the direction of Bailey
Mortuary, Plain Dealing.
Mr. Arthur, a native of Plain Dealing and a resident of Minden, passed away
Saturday, July 10, 1999 in Minden after a long illness. He was a U.S. Army
veteran, retiring with 23 years service. He was a member of the Plain Dealing
Presbyterian Church and was a former employee of Coyle Engineering Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey S. and Lydia Mae McGuffy
Arthur; daughter, Deborah A. Vines; and son, Dewey Leroy Arthur.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Arthur; sons, David Michael Arthur of
Bossier City, and Robert Dewayne Arthur of Taylor, LA; brother, Grover C.
Arthur of Dubberly, LA; sister, Ivy Christine Grice of Shreveport, LA; six
grandchildren; one great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Scott, Romie Pope, Kenny Wilson, Troy Wilson, Gary

James John Serra

SHREVEPORT, LA - A memorial service for James J. Serra, CLU, 86, will be held
Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints, 200 Carroll Street. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 11,
1999 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. Mr. Serra passed away Friday,
July 9 after a brief illness.
Raised in Illinois, Jimmy came to Centenary College on an athletic scholarship
and became a well-known sports figure locally. At Centenary he participated in
basketball, baseball, football, tennis and track and met and married his
college sweetheart, Mary Catherine Arthur. He served as president of his
fraternity, his college class and also of the student body and later as
president of the alumni association. He was subsequently named to the
Centenary Hall of Fame.
He was active in civic and community affairs, including the United Way Drive
and YMCA. For many years he coached basketball and received the Optimist Club
Award as "Friend of the Boy" in 1949. He was past master of one of the largest
Masonic Lodges in Louisiana.
Jimmy was associated with Mutual of New York (MONY) for 50 years and received
the industry's most prestigious awards. He was a lifetime member of the
Million Dollar Roundtable, past president of the Shreveport Life
Underwriters Association, past president of the Shreveport Certified Life
Underwriters Chapter a member of the MONY Hall of Fame and was named MONY'S
"Man of the Year" in 1966. Jimmy remained active professionally until
his recent illness.
For the past 25 years he has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Bishop and
was called to be Patriarch of the Shreveport Louisiana Stake. His service to
others was based on a personal philosophy and he was an inspiration to the
many whose lives he touched both personally and professionally.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine; two daughters, Marilyn and
Patricia, both of Shreveport: cousins, Marie Tobin, Tony Serra and Bob Serra,
Springfield, IL. The family wishes to express special thanks to Carrie Lee
Martin for her many years of loyalty and love.
Serving as pallbearers will be William Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Ballard Smith,
Mike Kovaisky, Hal Arthur, John Weenig, Sterling Bigner and Corey Gabler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Grigg, Robert McCreight, Milton

NATCHITOCHES, LA - Funeral services for Clifton Stewart, 82, will be held at 3
p.m., Sunday, July 11, 1999 at Briarwood Baptist Church. Officiating will be

Visitation was held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 1999 at
Briarwood Baptist Church, Mr. Stewart passed away Friday, July 9, 1999 at
Baptist Retirement Center. He was born August 21, 1916 in Ashland, LA, Mr.
Stewart was employed in the pulpwood industry and was also a veteran.

Lucille Roy Procter Copeland

LAFAYETTE, LA - Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 17,
1999 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Lucille Roy
Procter-Copeland, who died at home on Tuesday, June 15, 1999 at 12:36 a,m. The
Right Reverend Monsignor Glenn John Provost conducted the services assisted by
Cathedral pastor Right Reverend Keith Derouen and Right Reverend Harry T.
Benefiel.
Interment was in the Peace Chapel Mausoleum of Lafayette Memorial Park.
A lite long resident of Lafayette, Lucille was the daughter of the former
Mayor of Lafayette, and Louisiana State Senator J. Maxime Roy and Edna Roy.
She attended the University of Southwest Louisiana and Louisiana State
University in Baton Rouge. She was selected as a campus beauty and was a
member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was a charter member of the Junior League of
Lafayette and served as President, She served her sorority as a charter member
of Chi Omega of the USL campus. Lucille served on the board of the Southwest
Louisiana Mardi Gras Association and was a member of the Ladies Committee. For
a number of years she served as the committee's chair. Lucille served on the
executive committee of the Bishop's Charity Ball and in 1992 was honored as
queen. Lucille was chosen to membership as a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre of
Jerusalem in 1994. She was awarded this honor at the Tampa, Florida
Investiture.
Along with her talent for design and color she gave freely to the community
that which God had bestowed upon her. She and Martha Smith designed costumes
for Lafayette Town House Ball and the royalty costumes for the Southwest Mardi
Gras Pageant and Ball. Lucille shared her talent whether for style shows,
weddings or Mardi Gras. She gave unselfishly and was greatly admired for sense
of style. The Acadiana division of the Arthritis Foundation selected her on
their "Best Dressed" list in 1979. The Krewe of Oberon Childrens Carnival
dedicated their pageant to Lucille in 1988.
Lucille also served as director of protocol for the Southwest Mardi Gras
Association. She was an honorary member of the Louisiana Gulf Coast Exposition
and a lifetime member of the Acadiana Womens Symphony League. Lucille served
as a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution in the Galvez Chapter.
Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob Copeland who died
April 19, 1999 her parents, her sisters, Dot and Mary and her brothers Bootsie
and Pep.
Lucille is survived by the children of her first marriage to Sterrett Brown
Procter. They are Pennye Procter of Asheville, North Carolina, Boopie Procter
McInnis and her husband, George of Minden, Louisiana, Debbye Procter Vosbein
and her husband Robert of Metairie, Louisiana. Other surviving family members
are one brother, James J. Roy and his wife, Lois. Seven grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her four stepchildren, Daniel Copeland and his wife,
Deborah of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph Greene and his wife, Camille Copeland, Robert
Guinun and his wife, Janice Copeland all of Lafayette, and one daughter,
Darrelyn Copeland and her husband, Don Burts.
Pallbearers were George Elam Mclnnis,,Robert Allan Vosbein, Craig Procter
Jenkins, Sterrett Procter McInnis, Crawford Elam McInnis, and Henry Casey
Vosbein.
Honorary pallbearers were  Dan Bouligny, Ted Allis, Phil Allin, Robert
Martinez, MID, Mike Alexander, MD, Daniel Robert Copeland, Joseph Greene

Thomas Benedict Jagielski

ALEXANDRIA, SOUTH AFRICA
Services for Tom Jagielski, 59, a resident of Kooskia, Idaho will begin with
prayers at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Szykowny Funeral Home,
Ltd. 4901 S. Archer Avenue, "one block east of Pulaski" in Chicago, IL and
continue with mass at 10 a.m. at St. Bruno's Catholic Church 48th and
Harding Avenue Chicago. Officiating will be Father Jeff Anifer of Detroit, Mi.
Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Mr. Jagielski died July 6,
1999 in a drowning accident while on vacation in South Africa. Visitation will
be held on Monday, July 12 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Szykowny Funeral Home,
Ltd.
Mr. Jagielski was born in Chicago, IL and resided there most of his life. He
graduated from St. Rita's High School in 1957 and joined the U. S. Marine
Corps in 1962. He served as a sergeant in the Marine reserves until 1968. In
1975 he, and the late John Pheiffer, founded Trend-Tronics. Inc. a 
manufacturers sales rep company. He retired in 1996 and he and his wife,
Corinne, relocated to Kooskia, ID.
An avid sportsman, Mr. Jagielski started the TBJ Group, Ltd. a booking
agency for hunting and fishing expeditions. He hunted extensively in the U.
S. and Canada, Argentina and parts of Africa and New Zealand. He was a
member of various sportsmen's organizations, including the National Rifle
Association, Ducks Unlimited, Satan Club International, and the Delta
Waterfowl Organization. He was also an active member of St. Catherine's
Catholic Church in Kamiah, ID, where a memorial service will be held at a
later date.
Mr. Jagielski is survived by his wife, Corinne "CoCo"; one daughter, Jill
Jagielski Zadorozny and her husband, George; one son, Ben Jagielski: a
grandson, Matthew; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jagielski; his brother, Bill
(Cindy) Jagielski: his sister, Geri Schiffer; and numerous nieces and
all of Chicago.
Pallbearers will be John Jurca, Fred LePenske, Brian Schiffer, Leo Des
Jardins, Stan Herzog and Ricky Schiffer, all of Chicago.

Evelyn Whitehead Caldwell Forstner

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Evelyn Whitehead Caldwell Forstner will
be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 12, 1999 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel.
Officiating will be Dr. Bob Phillips, Chaplain of Hospice Managed Care.
Burial will follow at Forest Park - St. Vincent Avenue.
Visitation will be form 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday July 11, 1999 at the
funeral home.
Mrs. Forstner was born on October 26, 1912 in Taylor, AR, the youngest
daughter of Elizabeth and Felix Whitehead. She moved to Shreveport, LA in 1933
and went to work for McCrory's. She married Pat Caldwell in 1936 and was
married for 43 years until his death in 1979. In 1940, she went to work for JC
Penney's and worked at their downtown Shreveport store for 36 years until she
retired in 1976. In 1983, she married Alois Forstner. Mrs. Forstner was a
member of Central Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Grady Whitehead, Nobie
Hearne, Zora Rowland, Aubry Whitehead, and Ogden Whitehead.
Survivors include her husband, Alois Forstner; nieces and nephews, Martha
Morgan of Shreveport, Dwayne Whitehead of Taylor, AR, Jane Griffin of Fordyce,
AR, Bill Whitehead of Magnolia, AR, Peggy Moore of Granbury TX, Betty Rowland
of Fort Worth TX: numerous great nieces and nephews and other family members
and friends.

Colonel Nathan W. Miller (Ret.)

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Colonel (ret.) Nathan W. Miller will be held in
the Couch Chapel at the First United Methodist Church Monday, July 12 at 1
p.m.
Col. Miller was born May 7, 1918 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was a graduate of
the University of Iowa and served in the United States Air Force from World
War II until his retirement in 1972. Following his military retirement he
worked for the Bossier City Bank and Trust Company.
Col. Miller served in World War II, the Korean and Viet Nam Wars as a bomber
pilot and pilot trainer. Among the military decorations he received are the
Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal.
Col. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid
tennis player and long-time member of the Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club. He was
proud to have received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Shreveport
Green in 1995 for his efforts at beautifying Shreveport. He is survived by his
wife, Faye: daughters, Carol Messier, Marcia Alexander and Maryanne Miller; by
a son, Craig and by grandchildren Brett Alexander, and Anne and Steven
Messier.
The services will follow a private burial at Forest Park Cemetery. Col Miller
requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bliss Memorial Library at
First United Methodist Church or to cardiac or cancer charities.

James Donovan Shinn

MINDEN, LA - James Donovan Shinn died on July 11, 1999 at home after a short
illness. He was born on November 21, 1908 in Houma, Louisiana, the middle son
of John S. Shinn and Sarah Berger Shinn. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his brothers, John Raymond Shinn and Louis C. Shinn. He was
educated at Lorton Preparatory School in Houma and studied voice at Centenary
College.
Mr. Shinn moved to Minden in 1926, being employed as Manager of the gas
company, later to be known as ArkLa Gas. He retired from ArkLa Gas in 1973.
During his retirement he and his wife, Esther enjoyed frequent travel and
were members of the Pelican Travelers. He was a veteran of World War II where
he served in the European Theater as an infantryman.
In his 73 years in Minden, he was very involved in the city. He was the
administrator of the Minden Association for Retarded Citizens. He had been on
the Board of the Minden Cemetery Association.
Mr. Shinn was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Until his
death, he was the last surviving member of the original building committee
when the church was built in 1951. He has been honored for 50 years service as
a Lay Reader-Chalice Administrator, He had served on the Vestry many times and
also as Senior Warden numerous times. He is lovingly remembered for his music
and years of service in the choir. His annual singing of "Were You There" on
Good Friday and "0 Holy Night" on Christmas Eve even in his 90th year will be
remembered by all. He had been of service in every area of St. John's Parish.
He is survived by his widow, Esther Robichaux Shinn. They were married April
1, 1959. He is also survived by many loving friends.
Visitation was at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden on Sunday, July 11, from 7
p.m. to 9 p.m. A service will be held at St. Joseph Episcopal Church, 1107
Broadway, Minden, on July 12, 1999 at 3 p.m. with Interment in Minden
Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dr. Leon Bain. Jr., Ronald Campbell, Dr. Richard
Campbell, Duane Cloud, Mike Harper, and Carleton Protho. Honorary pallbearers

Mrs. Michaud was born March 21, 1911, and died July 10, 1999 at her beloved
camp on Saline Lake. She graduated from Ruston High School and LA Tech
University, She resided in Hodge, LA for 67 years and was a member of Hodge
Methodist Church.
Mrs. Michaud was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Michaud; her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Robison, Sr. and her brother A. E. "Bubba"
Robinson, Jr. Mamma Ruth is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law,
Harriett and Caerell Dowies of Homer, LA and Suzanne and Andy Malone of Diana,
TX, Also surviving her is her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Tom Crozier
of Hodge, LA; four grandchildren, Gil Dowies and Melinda Dowies, Mike Dowies,
Sharon Malone and Scott Malone. Two great grandchildren, Maggie and Stephen
Dowies.

Shreveport after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at

Mrs. Kozak was born in Gibsland, LA on June 24, 1927 and was a resident of
Shreveport for 50 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and
homemaker, as well as a partner in the family business, Kozak music. She is
survived by her husband and life partner of 50 years, Eddy Kozak; her
children, Brad Kozak of Dallas, TX and Janet Kozak Maines of Shreveport; her
daughter-in-law, Elizabeth M. Kozak; and her three grandchildren, Meredith
Maines of Shreveport, Will Morrison and Phoebe Kozak of Dallas, TX; and her
sister, Jacqueline Rambin of Dallas, TX. She will be missed by her family and
her many friends, who are secure in the knowledge that she is now with our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

MINDEN, LA - Nelta Rhea Lunsford, 70, passed away on July 12, 1999 from a

Services for Mrs. Park will be held at First United Methodist Church in Minden

Mrs. Park was born in Minden, LA on November 5, 1928. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lunsford. She was a loving wife of 50
years, mother, and grandmother. She traveled extensively with her husband for
30 years in the United States Air Force.
She graduated from Minden High School, attended Louisiana Tech and graduated
from Mister Lynn's Modeling School in Shreveport. She has been an active
member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Park is survived by her husband, Col. P.D. Park, Jr.; son, Charles "Tom"
and his wife, Claudia of Shreveport; daughters, Deborah Hudson of Minden, LA,
Donna Wimmery and her husband, Dennis of Bossier City, LA; stepson, Perry Hart
of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kelley
Hudson, Forest Hudson, and Dillon Park. Mrs. Park is survived by her
step-mother, Mrs. Tom Lunsford, and step-sister, Shirley and Ray Carter and
family of Denver, CO.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT- Memorial services were held for Alex Slack, 23, on July 7,

Alex passed away suddenly on June 29, 1999. He was born on July 7, 1975 in
Shreveport, LA. Alex loved animals and was actively involved in animal rights
and also was a Vegan.

Agency. A generation of young people were influenced by his love of sports
as an American Legion baseball coach. He was a deacon of Broadmoor Baptist

Shelton passed away Sunday, July 11, 1999 in Bossier City, LA after a sudden
illness. He was born in Monroe, LA and was a resident of Keithville, LA. He
was employed with Johnny's Pizza.

Scott Pennington of Shreveport, LA; mother and step-father, Vickie and William
Bassett of Mineral Springs, LA; father and stepmother, Frank and Sandy

Shreveport, LA; paternal grandparents, Paul and Virginia Pennington of Ruston,
LA; maternal grandmother, Edna Jo Otwell of Hilly Junction, LA; maternal
grandfather, Paul Otwell of Mineral Springs, LA; brothers, Mark Pennington and
wife, Stacie of Haughton, LA and Bryan Pennington and fiancee, Jacki Hepp of
Shreveport, LA; and nephews, Tyler Pennington and Lucas Pennington.

Hattie Marvin Moncrief Pavey

TYLER, TX - Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at
2:30 p.m., at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel by Dr. Don Cottrill of Aldersgate
United Methodist Church, Slidell, LA, assisted by Rev. Bryan D. Dauphin of
Summer Grove United Methodist Church for Hattie Marvin Moncrief Pavey. Burial
will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery.
Born April 9, 1905 in Gibsland, LA, Mrs. Pavey passed away Saturday, July 10,
1999 at her home in Tyler, Texas after a brief illness. Mrs. Pavey was a
former long-time resident of Shreveport having moved to Tyler in February of
1998.
She moved to Shreveport in 1925 to enter Nursing School on the recommendation
of their family Physician, Dr. Wade. She attended the old Schumpert Sanitarium
graduating as an R.N. in June of 1928.
Mrs. Pavey was a former member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church where she was
active in the Women's Society of Christian Services and was a delegate to the
Louisiana Methodist Conference on several occasions.
As an active member of Summer Grove United Methodist Church, she served on the
Parsonage Committee and the United Methodist Women.
In January 1999, she was awarded a permanent Honorary Membership on the Summer
Grove United Methodist Church's Administrative Board in recognition of the
many years of her work in the church.
Mrs. Pavey was pre-deceased by parents, M. W. Moncriet and Annie Shaffer
Moncrief; her husband of 38 years, Francis Nathan Pavey, Jr.; infant daughter,
Annie Lee Pavey; two brothers, Emery and Edwim Moncrief; sister, Nora
Moncrief Edmiston and infant granddaughter, Vicki Lynn Turner.
She is survived by three children, Ruby Pavey Holland and husband, Claude, Jr.
of Tyler, Texas; Francis Nathan Pavey, III and wife, Pat, and Gwen Pavey
Turner of Shreveport; 11 grandchildren, Dale Holland (Brenda), David
Holland, Claude Holland, III (Mary Ellen), Tim Holland (Pat), Cindy Pavey
Pittman (Robert), Rebecca Pavey Hardin, Robin Pavey Miller (Casey), Charles
Burroughs (Lisa), Karen Burroughs, Rhonda Turner Hereford (Lou) and Rachel
Turner Wagner; 17 great grandchildren; one expected great grandchild; and two
expected great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Halbert Moncrief (Dovie) of
Brookhaven, MS; Carl Moncrief of Gibsiand, LA; Euell Moncrief (Mable) of
Madison, MS and Orland Moncrief (Virginia) of Shreveport; numerous nieces and
nephews, additional family members and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Dale, David, Claude and Tim Holland, Lou
Hereford and Greg Wagner.
Honorary pallbearers are Charles Burroughs, Robert Pittman, Casey Miller and
Charles Lyons.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Tyler and express their appreciation
to the Joy Class of Greenacres Baptist Church, Tyler, TX, and to her many
friends and fellow worshippers at Summer Grove United Methodist Church in
Shreveport for their prayers and support. Gratitude to Sonja Bracey, Ann
McElwee and Inez Johniken of Hair Attraction. A Special thanks to Dr. Svetisla

Robert Morgan Bingham

BOISE, ID - Robert (Bob) Morgan Bingham, 81, of Boise, Idaho passed away July
12, 1999 at Boise Samaritan Village.  Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m., Saturday, July 17 at Antioch United Methodist Church with Reverend
William Finnin and Reverend James Pyle officiating. Burial will follow
at the Antioch Cemetery.  The family will meet with friends at the
Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana on Friday evening from 5 to 7
p.m.
Bob was born in Henderson, Minnesota February 7, 1918 and spent most of his
childhood on a dairy farm in Wheeling, IL. He was a graduate from the
University of Minnesota.
A veteran of WWII Bob served as a Captain in the 313th Field Artillery
Battalion 80th Blue Ridge Infantry Division, 3rd Army. Following action at the
Moselle River in Germany, his battalion was awarded the Distinguished Unit
Presidential Citation. Additionally Captain Bingham was awarded the Bronze
Star for his meritorious service in France, Luxembourg and Germany.
Bob married Eleanor Barrons on August 30, 1941 in Ft. Sill Oklahoma. Following
WWII they settled in Antioch Community, Lincoln Parish, where they introduced
one of the first peach orchards in the area. It was on the "farm" that Bob and
Eleanor raised their four children while Bob held various agricultural related
positions.
In 1968 Bob had a career change and he and Eleanor moved to New Orleans.
During this time, Bob became involved with an oil refining product for which
he held two patents. In 1996 they retired to Boise, Idaho.
Bob will always be remembered as a warm and loving husband, father,
grandfather, and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eleanor, four children, son Peter
and wife, Annette of Austin, TX; daughiters, Mary and husband Will Finnin of
Dallas, TX; Judy and husband, Ron Halverson of Boise, ID; Jeanne and
husband, Lansing Lee III of Augusta, GA; 11 grandchildren; four
greatgrandchildren; sister, Beth Duddy and brothers, Donald S. and Douglas
Bingham; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Harold S. and Jessie M. Bingham and his niece Sharon Duddy Tolin.


Nelta Rhea Lunsford Park

MINDEN, LA - Nelta Rhea Lunsford, 70, passed away on July 12,1999 from a
recent illness. Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Minden, on
Tuesday, July 13th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Services for Mrs. Park will be held at First United Methodist Church in Minden
on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Hunter and
Rev. Ryan Horton. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory.
Mrs. Park was born in Minden, LA on November 5, 1928. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lunsford. She was a loving wife of 50
years, mother, and grandmother. She traveled extensively with her husband for
30 years in the United States Air Force.
She graduated from Minden High School, attended Louisiana Tech and graduated
from Mister Lynn's Modeling School in Shreveport. She has been an active
member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Park is survived by her husband, Col. P.D. Park, Jr.; son, Charles "Tom"
and his wife, Claudia of Shreveport; daughters, Deborah Hudson of Minden, LA,
Donna Mummery and her husband, Dennis of Bossier City, LA; stepson, Perry Hart
of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kelley
Hudson, Forest Hudson, and Dillon Park. Mrs. Park is survived by her
step-mother, Mrs. Tom Lunsford, and step-sister, Shirley and Ray Carter and
family of Denver, CO. The family would like to express their heart felt thanks
to Dr. Donna Holder, Dr. Deirdre Barfield and their staff of physicians and
the nursing staff of Schumpert Medical Center, especially nurse Tony Gordon in
S.I.C.U.

Mr. Spearman joined the Army un July 20, 1937 in Dallas, TX. He served with
the 89th Infantry division during WWII earning the Purple heart after being
wounded in action in France. During the Korean War he served with the 56th
Amphibious Tank and Tractor Battalion in Korea participating in the "Big
Switch". He continued to serve his country with honor retiring in 1961 with
the rank of SFC in the 26th Infantry 1 st BG CO B. After retiring he moved to
Vivian, LA and went to work for the Caddo Parish Army Department retiring as
supervisor. During retirement years he was very active and had great concerns
for his family and friends salvation and then the direction his precious
country was going. He wrote many letters to the editors of our newspaper
concerning important issues to our country. His family remembers him with love
pride and will miss his love of life. We would like to thank Brother Richard
Beeman, Reverend Merlin Liverman, Reverend J. C. Clements, Reverend Morris
Brock and also the staff of North Caddo Medical Center, the EMS Service of
North Caddo Hospital, Dr. Steven Taylor Dr. John Haynes and a special thanks
to Dr. Jeff Holt. 
His favorite verse was Philippians 3; 13-14 and John 3 verse 4. Philippians 3;
13-14, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I
do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those
things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize at the high
calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Thomas Lorriane Whiteman Campbell

MINDEN, LA - Thomas Lorriane Whiteman Campbell died July 13,1999 in Minden
Medical Center following a stroke. Born 91 years ago in Sibley, Missouri, she
was the only child of H. T. and Annah Pearl Whiteman of Marceline, Missouri.
Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Paul M. Campbell, she is survived by a son,
Dr. Richard W. Campbell, daughter-in-law, Lisa and grandson, Hooker of Minden.
She was a graduate of Stephens College and Missouri University School of
Journalism. Her degrees in Music and Journalism led to stints on various
newspapers and twenty years as church organist at St. John's Episcopal Church
and pianist for the Minden Lions Club. She is perhaps best known for her
avocation, the promotion of historical studies and the preservation of local
history.
Organizational affiliations include being a communicant of St. John's
Episcopal Church, Minden, past Chapter Regent and Registrar and twice state
officer of the DAR with sixty years membership and nine ancestors bars, past
president of the UDC; past president of the North LA Historical Association
and honorary life member of the Board; past officer of the State Genealogical
Society; organizing member and past president of the Minden Study Club;
founding member of the Women's Department Club; member of the Society of
Boonesborogh; Clan Campbell Society, Colonial Dames of America, Chapter VI,
Descendants of Colonial Clergy, Huguenot Society, Matthew Agee Chapter,
Colonial Dames of the XVII Century; Daughters of 1812; American Legion
Auxiliary.
She was designated Webster Parish's Official Historian and named Minden's
"Woman of the Year" for 1978. She was the Heritage Queen of the Minden
Germanfest and Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade. February 25, 1997
was proclaimed "Thomas Lorriane Campbell Day" in Minden,
Visitation was at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden on Tuesday, July 13. 1999
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church,
1107 Broadway, Minden, on July 14,1999 at 3 p.m. Interment will be in
Buckner, Missouri. Pallbearers are Dr. Leon Bain, Judge Harmon Drew, Hal
Jackson, Steve Maddry, Philp McInnis, and Carleton Prothro.

Mrs. Ada Belle Melcher

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Mrs. Ada Belle Melcher, 87, passed away on Monday, July 12,
1999. She had been a resident of Bossier City since 1948. Her faith and love
in God was shown by her devoted service and through her membership with the
Eastern Star which spanned over 30 years. She is survived by her loving
husband of 48 years, Mr. C. D. Melcher; son, Leonard Watson and wife, Claudie;
step-daughter, Ruth Hellman and husband Terry; sister-in-law, Lou Vincent;

Joyce Ann Brugier Berry

SHREVEPORT, LA - Joyce Ann Brugier Berry passed away on July 13, 1999 after a
lengthy baffle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July
15, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. Officiating will be
The Reverend Canon Jane W. B. Alexander, Canon Pastor and The Reverend Canon
James H. Fetterman, Canon Missioner. The family will receive friends in the
Cathedral parlor following the services. Interment will take place in the
Cathedral Columbarium at a later date.
Mrs. Berry was born in Beeville, Texas on January 14, 1933, the daughter of
Elfie Brugier Williams and the late Robert Brugier. She was a graduate of C.
E. Byrd High School and Centenary College. At Centenary she was Centenary
Lady, president of Chi Omega Fraternity and Panhellenic Council, and ROTC
Sponsor. In the Shreveport community, she was past president of Chi Omega
Alumnae, past board member of St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral and past officer
of the Shreveport Medical Auxiliary. She enjoyed memberships in the Cotillion
Club, Shreveport Symphony Guild, Shreveport Opera Guild and the English
Speaking Union. She was also employed as an instructor at Ayers Business
School.
Mrs. Berry is survived by her mother, Elfie Williams of New Orleans, her
daughter, Lianne and her husband, Phil Pearson and step grandchildren, Jessica
and Colton Pearson all of Dallas; daughter, Susanne and her husband, Ernest
Johnson of Houston, TX; and one son, Oscar Lee Berry III and his wife, Ashley;
and grandson, Alan Lee Berry of Shreveport.
Mrs. Berry loved Shreveport, her church, her many friends, Chi Omega and her
children and grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made in lieu

Cynthia W. "Cindy" Robinson

SPRINGHILL, LA - Memorial services for Cynthia W. "Cindy" Robinson, 48, will
be held Thursday, July 15,1999 at Springhill United Methodist Church at 11

Wednesday, July 14,1999 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home. Springhill,

Cindy departed this life Tuesday, July 13, 1999 due to complications from a
brain tumor. She fought a courageous battle since being diagnosed in August of
1996, while maintaining her steadfast faith and dignity.
She was educated at LSU, receiving her Masters Degree in Special Education in
1973. She was an active member of the Webster Parish Alumni Association and
was the recipient of the LSU Alumni Association Chapter Service Award in 1997.
She taught special education in the public schools of Webster Parish for
several years. She also taught several years at Plain Dealing Academy. She
worked as a marketing representative for Kraft Foods and also owned her own
advertising specialty business for several years before taking over as office
manager of her husband's law off ice in Springhill.
She was an active member of Springhill United Methodist Church having served
on numerous committees including Chairperson of the Administrative Board. She
had a strong and abiding faith in God which she expressed to all with
whom she came in contact. She and her husband John, attended Louisiana United
Methodist Cursillo #43 in Alexandria.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Judge John Robinson of Springhill,
LA, two sons, Eric Robinson and wife, Amy of Longview, TX and Kyle Robinson of
Springhill, LA; granddaughter, Whitney Wilhelm of Longview, TX; mother-in-law,
Reba Robinson of Springhill, LA.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Wayne Sessions and

Mr. Doyle died Tuesday, July 13, 1999 in Bossier City after a lengthy illness.

Peggy Hilliard Rotzler

MARSHALL, TX - Peggy Hilliard Rotzler went to be with her Father in Heaven on
July 13, 1999. Born in Marshall, Texas, on January 14, 1922, she was the only
child of Vernon and Maggie Littlejohn Hilliard. Her early years were spent
with cousins and friends at Camp Fern, a residential summer camp for girls and
boys, which was established by her parents in 1934. She later attended Hollins
College in Virginia and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree
in health, physical education and recreation. She was a member of Mortar Board
and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She taught school for two years in Marshall
where she met and married R. W. (Bill) Rotzler from Pittsburgh, PA, They lived
in Texas City and later Alvin, Texas. Upon the death of her mother in 1961,
she assumed the ownership of Camp Fern which she operated until July 13.
She has left behind a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bill and Marcia Rotzler of
Longview and a daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Albert Thompson of
Marshall as well as two grandsons, Hilliard and William Rotzler.
Her love of children and her love for the Lord are two lasting gifts she has
given to her children as well as four generations of campers who knew and
loved her. The joy that she shared remains in our hearts.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the home of the Lake
Littlejohn family.
Services will be on Thursday, July 15 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian
Church of Marshall.

Mr. Borden was born February 27, 1910 in Chickasha, OK to Monroe Borden and
Susie Watson Borden. He received his education in the Antlers, OK Public
Schools. He was a retired carpenter from Texas Eastman of Longview, TX and was
a member of Harleton United Methodist Church. Mr. Borden married Etta Ray
Newman on May 6, 1931 in Marshall, TX. She preceded him in death on December
21, 1983. He married Dovie Ellerbe on April 3, 1989 in Harleton, Texas. Mr.
Borden died at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Lagniappe Hospital in
Shreveport, LA after a long illness. Mr. Borden was preceded in death by one
son, Edford Borden and one granddaughter, Vickie Karletta Everett.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dovie Ellerbe Borden of Shreveport; two
stepsons, Ronald W. and Susie Ellerbe of Birmingham, AL, Don and Claire
Ellerbe of Bossier City, LA; five grandchildren and grands-in-law Ricky and

Mrs. Aycock retired as an executive secretary for Texas Eastern Transmission
Corporation. She was a member of the Petroleum Club for over 20 years,
Harriet's (Smith) Bridge Club, The Woman's Department Club, Shreveport
Desk and Derrick Club, and the Homemakers Extension Club. Most of all Mrs.
Aycock was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in
death by her parents, E. B. and Grace McNaspy; one sister, Vera Ruth McNaspy,
and two brothers, E. B. McNaspy, Jr. and H. M. McNaspy. She is survived by her
loving husband of 50 years, John M. Aycock; two sons, Randy Aycock and wife,
Cathy of Frierson, LA., and Don Aycock of Dallas, TX.; one grandson, Justin

Mr. Spearman joined the Army on July 20, 1937 in Dallas, TX. He served  with
the 89th Infantry division during  WWII earning the Purple heart after being
wounded in action in France.  During the Korean War he served with  the 56th
Amphibions Tank and Tractor  Battalion in Korea participating in the "Big
switch". He continued to serve his country with honor retiring in 1961 with 
the rank of SFC in the 26th Infantry 1st BG CO B. After retiring he moved to 
Vivian, LA and went to work for the  Caddo Parish Hwy Department retiring
as supervisor. During retirement years, he was very active and had great
concerns for his family and friends salvation and then the direction his
precious country was going.  He wrote many letters to the editors of our 
newspaper concerning important issues to our country. His family remembers him
with love pride and will miss his love of life. 
We would like to thank Brother Richard Beeman, Reverend Merlin Liverman, 
Reverend J. C. Clements, Reverend Morris Brock and also the staff of North 
Caddo Medical Center, the EMS Service of North Caddo Hospital, Dr. Steven
Taylor Dr. John Haynes and a special thanks to Dr. Jeff Holt. 
His favorite verse was Philippians 3; 13-14 and  John 3 verse 4. Philippians
3; 13, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I
do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those
things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize at the high
calling of God in Christ Jesus.

BENTON, LA - Jerome J. Smith, Jr., 55, passed away July 14 after a lengthy

mother, Laura Mae Duncan Smith.

Everette Jewel Markham died on Thursday, July 15, 1999 in Tomball, Texas. Born
on October 18, 1905 in Montgomery County, Arkansas, Mr. Markham lived most of
his life in Arkansas and in Shreveport, Louisiana where he was employed by the
L&A KCS Railroad as rate manager for over 30 years, and was known nationwide
for his expertise. He was affiliated with several traffic organizations during
his career. 
Mr. Markham was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Battle High
Markham. He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Mary and
Warren Kimbrell; Judi and Ladd Galloway of Houston; Wanda and Dale Sandifer of
Shreveport. Four grandsons and their wives, Raymond and Gloria Kimbrell of
Shreveport; Dr. Dean and Katherine Sandifer of Lakeland, FL; Dr. Dan and Wendy

SHREVEPORT, LA - Homegoing celebration services for Johnny L. Pogue, Sr. will
be held at the Avenue Baptist Church, 1600 Peabody Street, Saturday, July 17,

Mr. Pogue departed this life on Monday, July 12, 1999. He leaves his Christian
legacy and many precious memories to his children: Doris P. Andrews (Ira),
Tucson, Arizona, Pittre Pogue Walker, Johnny L. Pogue, Jr., Rotina Pogue
Dickens, Shreveport, Louisiana, and Curtis R. Pogue (Yvette), Franklin,
Louisiana; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandson; his sister, Lizzie
Lee Patterson, Shreveport and many other relatives and friends.



Warren Z. Coleman

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Warren Z. Coleman, 78, will be held at
2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 1999 at Forest Park West. The family will
receive friends on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rose-Neath's Southside
Chapel.
Mr. Coleman died Thursday, July 15, 1999. He was born in Urania, LA and had
resided in Shreveport for 52 years. He was a retired air traffic controller.
Mr. Coleman served our country during World War 11 in the United States
Army Air Corps and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Keithville Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelwyn Campbell Coleman and parents,
Warren and Minnie Bell Coleman.
Survivors are two daughters, Carol Ann Coleman of Shreveport, LA and Judy
Phelan and husband, Michael of Lawrenceville, GA; one sister, Mellie Dunn of
Shreveport; three grandchildren, Kelly Phelan of Birmingham, AL, Charles

Lurinze Terrell, Sr.

SACRAMENTO, CA - Funeral services for Mr. Lurinze Terrell, Sr., 77, will be
held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 1999 at the Morning Star Baptist Church,

Mr. Terrell passed away Tues., July 6,1999 at 10:15 a.m. at Kaiser Hospital in
Sacramento, CA after a sudden illness. He was born May 20, 1922 in Forbing,
LA. He retired from LaGuna Honda Hospital in San Francisco, CA.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Davis (William), Earnestine Prim
(Herman) and Jinny V. White; two sons, Charles Terrell and LaMar Terrell; one
sister, Rosa Bell Jacobs of Houston, TX; and two brothers, Floyd Terrell and
Thurman Terrell of Shreveport; 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Diane Carter Turner. 41, will be held

Diane entered into rest on Sunday, July 11, 1999 at her residence after a
short battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, La., her
educational background: graduate from Captain Shreve High School, Shreveport;
two years at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, La. and
certification as a LPN from Shreveport-Bossier Technical School (Vo-Tech).
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. Fred and Mrs. Nellie
Carter and sister, Ms. Hazel R. Sims.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Oscar Turner, Jr.; two sons, Jermaine and
Brandon Turner; one daughter, Ashley Turner; a special niece and nephew
LaDonna and Roderick Richardson; one sister, Rosie R. Roberts; one brother,
Cleveland Jones, Jr. both of Shreveport, La.; and a host of aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at Willis Knighton
Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Hewitt was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hewitt: son, Charles C.
Hewitt; daughter, Isbell Y. Grant and son-in-law, Sam Thomas.

Mr. Gaines died July 12, 1999. He was born in Yuma, AZ, was a former resident
of Converse, LA and had resided in Shreveport, LA for the past eight years.
Mr. Gaines worked in sales for Southern Fastener and Tool. He was a
member of Centenary United Pentecostal Church and the National Rifle
Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Ann and Virgil Matson; one
brother Gene Matson and grandparents James T. and Evelyn Smith.
Survivors are his adoptive parents Joe and Betty Gaines of Rock Port, MO;
grandparents Joe and Lois Gaines of Rock Port, MO; four sisters Cheri Laughter
and husband Samuel of Shreveport, Debbie Terrell and husband Roy of Clarinda,

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Liston McGowen, 82, will be
held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16, 1999 at Osborn Funeral Home Chapel. Rev.
George Pearce of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where Mrs. McGowen was a
member, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. She died at 4
p.m Wednesday at Summit Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. McGowen was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Frank McGowen. She
was born and reared in Panola County, Texas but spent most of her adult life
in Shreveport, where she worked with children as a Caddo Parish teacher and
curriculum coordinator. She spent twenty-three years at Arthur Circle School.
She often said these were her most pleasant years.
She attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas and was a
member of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ferries and her husband Alan; three
grandchildren, Dr. Kathy Pearce, husband Dr. Allen Pearce, Michael and
Paige Farries, and two great-grandchildren, Adam and Duncan Pearce all of
Baton Rouge.

member of the! Goldonna Baptist Church and of the Goldonna Eastern Star Lodge.
Survivors are one son, Gerald McGee of Shreveport, LA; three daughters, Royce

Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmage Roberts; parents, Jarfies
and Alice Polk; brothers, Guilford, Wilmer and Wilford Polk; and sisler. Ida
Mae Hinton.
