The following obituary appeared in the 2 Apr 1915 edition
of the Marietta Journal and Courier.

"Mrs. Amanda C. Dobbs laid to Rest Here. Widow of Mr.
James P. Dobbs. Died in Atlanta on Monday morning.

"Mrs. Amanda C. Dobbs, widow of Mr. James P. Dobbs,
died in Atlanta while visiting a friend, Monday morning
at four o'clock. The funeral was conducted at the First Baptist
church, of which she had been a member for 27 years, on
Tuesday afternoon by Rev. G. S.Tumlin. The interment was
in the City cemetery.

"Mrs. Dobbs was Miss Amanda C. Mills of Elbert County
before her marriage in 1855. She would have been 80 years
old in November. Her married life was spent in Marietta
and six years ago she went to Atlanta to live with her
only son Mr. A. M. Dobbs. Her two daughters, Mrs. Mamie Thornton
and Mrs. Addie Hood, passed away many years ago.

"Mrs. Dobbs loved Marietta and often visited her grand-
daughter Mrs. Walter Sams and other relatives here. She was
devoted to her church and was a most sincere philanthropist.
She was always good-humored, sympathetic and unobtrusive. She
had gone to Atlanta to attend the Chapman-Alexander meetings
when seized by her final illness.

"At the church Miss Maud Foster was organist while Mrs. H. C.
Dobbs sang 'Face to Face' and the hymns 'How Firm a Foundation'
and 'There is Rest for the Weary' were
sung by Mrs. H. C. and Mrs. E. P. Dobbs, Mrs. W. A. Maddox,
Mrs. John Warren and Messrs. Gus Benson, George Edwards,
C. B. Mitcham and L. A. Adams. The pall-bearers were deacons
of the church: R. H. Northcutt, M. R. Lyons, C. T. Carnes,
E. H. Northcutt, J. R. Fowler and N. M. Mayes."

[Submitters notes: Amanda Catherine Mills was born on 15 Nov
1835 in Elbert Co., the daughter of William Mills and Nancy
