        James Boyer ''Jim'' Clayton, 71, of 10155 Lavonia Highway died
     September 24, 2000.
        Born June 6, 1929, in Berea, Nebraska, he was a son of the late
     John Fred and Lizzettie James Clayton. He served in the U.S. Navy
     for 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer serving tours in both the
     Korean and Vietnam wars. He had also retired as a Building Material
     Manager with West Building Supply Company. He was a member and
     secretary of the Carnesville Lions Club and was an active member of
     the Carnesville Christian Men's Fellowship. He was an active member
     of the Carnesville United Methodist Church.
        Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Lea Jeffers Clayton; two
     sons, Steve Clayton, Hiwassee, and William Clayton, Blairsville;
     two stepsons, Tim Bell, Sarasota, Fla., and Allan Bell,
     Lawrenceville; a sister Vesta Drake, Wendell, Idaho; and a brother,
     Max Clayton, Mulberry, Ariz.
        Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Ginn Funeral Home with the
     Revs. Steve Arnold and Darvin Slaton officiating.
        The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home.

        Leona McConnell Hawks, 100, of 3200 Sanford Road died Sunday,
     Sept. 24, 2000.
        A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Hawks was a daughter of the
     late Thomas Crow McConnell and Georgia Moore McConnell and was the
     widow of Warren Claud Hawks. She was preceded in death by a son,
     Roger Hawks. She was a homemaker and was a member of New Harmony
     Baptist Church.
        Services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at New Harmony Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Howard Garrison officiating. Burial will be in
     the church cemetery.
        Survivors include three daughters, Cathryn Baird, Hull, Mildred
     David, Danielsville, and Dorothy Erdman, Athens; three sons, Harold
     Hawks, Julian Hawks and Talmadge Hawks, all of Nicholson; a sister,
     Ora Mae Pace, Athens; a brother, Fred McConnell, Pittsburg, Texas;
     23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 21
     great-great-grandchildren.

        Sophie Beck Worthy, 82, of 817 Waddell St. died Saturday, Sept.
     23, 2000.
        A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Worthy was a daughter of the
     late Shak Weaver and Alice Brown.
        Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hill Chapel Baptist
     Church with the Rev. J.P. Campbell officiating. The body will be
     placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in East Lawn
     Cemetery.
        Survivors include two daughters, Martha McGarity, Atlanta, and
     Mary Frances Williams, Miami; two sons, Willie G. Beck and Joe
     Beck, both of Athens; three sisters, Ela Mae Gatlin, Kathleen Jones
     and Annie Davenport, all of Athens; 12 grandchildren; nine
     great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

        Ludy Criss Haley, 89, of 452 Cobb St. died Saturday, Sept. 23,
     2000.
        A native of Franklin County, Mr. Haley was a son of the late
     William Jerome and Nealie Dove Haley and was the widower of Rosa
     Mae Crow Haley. He was a farmer and was retired from the
     horticulture department at the University of Georgia.
        Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pruitt Funeral Home with the
     Rev. Williard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Trinity United
     Methodist Church cemetery.
        Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Haley Brown, Anderson,
     S.C., and Johnnie Haley Hall, Royston; two sons, Edsel Ford Haley,
     New Port Richey, Fla., and Franklin Jerry Haley, Fort Washington,
     Md.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a
     great-great-granddaughter .
        Pallbearers will be Mark McNail, Keith Hall, Kevin Hall, Steven
     Whiten, Dale Whiten and David Moore.

        Sara Winn Vickery Vaughn Childs, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 24,
     2000.
        A native of Hart County, Mrs. Childs was a daughter of the late
     Eugene and Laura Jean Brown Winn and was the widow of J.L. Childs
     Sr. She was retired from Elberton Mill and was a member of
     Stinchcomb United Methodist Church and the ladies auxiliary at
     Elbert Memorial Hospital.
        Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Berry Funeral Home,
     Elberton, with the Revs. Jim Spooner, Sharon Waters, Phillip Hart,
     David McConnell and Sonny Peevy officiating. Burial will be in
     Vanna United Methodist Church cemetery.
        Survivors include a daughter, Laura W. Kellum, Elberton; a son,
     Otis Winn Vickery, Elberton; five grandchildren; and six
     great-grandchildren.

     to Northside Baptist Church.

        Howard Wise of 1650 E. Broad St. died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.
        A native of Clarke County, Mr. Wise was a son of the late Wade
     and Carrie Fleming Wise. He was retired from Belk's Department
     Store and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
        Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Friendship Baptist
     Church with the Revs. James Kendrick, Ben Rivers and Hoyt Smith
     officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
     Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
        Survivors include his wife, Wilhelmina E. Wise; two
     stepdaughters, Judy M. Jackson, Athens, and Deborah Henderson,
     Stone Mountain; a stepson, Kenneth Lawrence, Athens; two sisters,
     Stella Blade, Athens, and Joyce Beckwith, Stone Mountain; 17

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist

     officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial
     will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
        Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Simon
     Fortson Jr.; two daughters, Sonya V. Steeples and Shauna M.
     Fortson, both of Toccoa; a son, Simon Fortson III, Toccoa; eight
     sisters, Thelma Vega, Zora Bell Tukes, Mary Quincy Burns, Quilla
     Delane Scott, Yvonne Wheeler, Janice Marie Hodges and Jacqueline
     Wheeler, all of Toccoa, and Darlene Amatasiro, Powder Springs; and
     two grandchildren.

        Lois Finch, age 89, died Monday, September 25, 2000.
        A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Finch was a homemaker and a
     member of Bogart Christian Church.
        Survivors include her husband, Rupert Finch, Bogart; a daughter,
     Juanita Daniel, Bogart; two sisters, Geneva Mobley, Bogart, and
     Jewell Sims, Statham; two grandchildren; Jane and Joe Todd, Bogart,
     and John and Ellen Daniel, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and several nieces
     and nephews.
        Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Bogart
     Christian Church with the Rev. Ben Parker officiating. Mrs. Finch
     will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen
     Memorial Park Cemetery.

        Mary Kohl Klingbeil, of 201 Meadow Creek Drive, died September
     21, 2000.
        A native of Oshkosh, WI, she was a daughter of the late Frank
     and Mary Seifried Pupeter, and a widow of Fay Kohl and Bruce
     Klingbeil. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one
     sister. Having lived most of her life in Oshkosh, she was involved
     in activities at Sacred Heart Church and was a department
     supervisor at Miles Kimball Co. In 1986, Mrs. Klingbiel moved to
     Georgia to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Young At
     Hearts at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was active in Council on
     Aging activities.
        A memorial mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2000,
     at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will be in
     Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
        Survivors include a daughter, Diane Kohl of Athens; son, Dennis
     Kohl of Oshkosh; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
        Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Athens,
     GA or Quiet Oaks Health Care Center, Crawford, GA.

     of Lloyd Franklin Kidd (Sam Bo). She is preceded in death by a
     sister, Willie Loue Smith Anthony, and two brothers, Grady Smith
     and O'Dell Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Meadow
     Baptist Church.
        Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meadow Baptist Church
     with the Revs. Joe Dooley and Calvin Coile officiating. The body
     will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the
