She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, James C. Hardy. Survivors include one daughter, Alma Hardy of Chicago; one brother, Willie Roy Lowery of Little Rock; and one grandson. SLAYTON Julia Lucille Slayton, 94, of El Dorado, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born Dec. 5, 1913, in Clark County, she was the daughter of Jesse Ross and Laura Alice Logan Carter. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a member of the WMU and was involved in the Lottie Moon program at Immanuel. Preceding her in death, along with her parents, was her husband, Jack E. Slayton. Survivors include two daughters, Linda McCroskey (Otis) and Shirl Barksdale; and one son, Jack C. Slayton (Donna), all of El Dorado. Bennett, 89, of El Dorado died on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Hillsboro Manor after a lengthy illness. She was born on Sept. 26, 1918, in Lexington, Tenn., the daughter of William Carl Edwards and Stella Stewart Edwards. Mrs. Bennett was a member of First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Bruce C. Bennett; her parents; two sisters, Ada Barry of Little Rock and Elizabeth Lambert of Longmont, Colo.; and her brother, Carl Edwards of Pine Bluff. Survivors include her daughter, Susan L. Madsen of Stuttgart and her son, James B. Bennett (Lisa) of El Dorado, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Bennett Buckalew, also of El Dorado. She was known as "Nanny" to her seven grandchildren: Seth, Sally and Sam Bennett of El Dorado, Bruce Madsen (Leslie) of Humphrey, Michael Madsen (Kim) of Hernando, Miss., Leslie Brewer (Bryan) and Jennifer Bueker (Kirk), all of Stuttgart; as well as nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and their spouses. Mrs. Bennett grew up enjoying the outdoors in Hot Springs, graduated from Hot Springs High School and went to work immediately for the telephone company. After marrying, Mrs. Bennett was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado, served as a bible study leader, Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir and served with the Women of the Church as well as several other committees. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Robert Rosamond Chapter), El Dorado Musical Coterie, the YWCA and was a devoted legal secretary to her late husband, her son-in-law, Carl J. Madsen, and her son, Jim. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado with Dr. Dan Loomis officiating. Fifth St., El Dorado, AR 71730; or a charity of the donor's choice. SARAH A. CALLAWAY Sarah died at peace in her home, as per her wishes, on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, in Woodlawn Cemetery in El Dorado. Sarah was born July 18, 1923, in El Dorado to Nancy and Wharton Swilley. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, she married Henry Callaway and they had four children. The family moved several times for Henry's career in the oil and gas industry, eventually settling in Midland, Texas. Sarah raised and nurtured her family, finding time to help with PTA, girl scouts and cub scouts, school, music lessons and sports. She was well-known for her drawer full of snacks. She took particular pride and satisfaction from her work on the board of directors for High Sky Girls Ranch. She led an active social life, was a member of the Petroleum Club and Racquet Club, and enjoyed the company of many good friends. She spent numerous happy hours playing bridge, grew beautiful irises and painted china for her daughters. In 2003, Sarah moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to be closer to her family and enjoy all three generations. They are grateful to Betty Gould, her caregivers, and the hospice group for their compassion and kindness. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1999; and her son, Fred, in 2004. We will all miss her. FOGG James Eugene "Gene" Fogg, a resident of Dothan, Ala., died on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 81. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Fain and the Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Mr. Fogg was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Lacombe, La., where he lived his early life. After graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his military discharge, he attended Southwestern Business School and was employed as safety director for Murphy Oil Co. for several years. In 1970 he and his family moved to Dothan and he became self-employed with Murphy Oil and later with Exxon Oil Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dothan. Mr. Fogg was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Todd Fogg and Forrest Eugene Fogg, and by a sister, Kathleen Fogg Wall. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 58 years, Lynnie Jean Fogg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Jerry Hilyard of El Dorado and Lynnette and Gerald Hannahs of Little Rock; four granddaughters, Jennifer Mitchell and her husband, Marcus, of El Dorado, Jessica Hilyard of Charleston, S.C., and Blake and Madison Hannahs of Little Rock; one grandson, Dusty Hannahs of Little Rock; a great-grandson, Hutton Mitchell of El Dorado; one sister, Christine Serie, Slidell, La.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and other family members. He was a retired supervisor for JAYCO, who was dedicated to his men; loved to golf and was a member of Pine Hills Men's Golf Association; enjoyed working in his yard; was a U. S. BETTY MOONEY Betty Mooney, 74, of Magnolia, passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on March 14, 1933, in Eagle Lake, Texas, the daughter of Raleigh Edward and Nida Marie (Buffington) Beane. Betty lived in Magnolia for over 30 years. She is loved and admired by friends and neighbors for her spirit of caring and helping. She didn't talk about work ethic or family values, she just lived them. She helped customers with their water bills for over 20 years at the Magnolia Water System, where she was a bookkeeper. Behind the counter at Lawhon's she often whistled softly like she did when she was cooking a meal for her family. She enjoyed listening to the birds singing in the morning while she had a cup of coffee. Then she would be busy taking a meal to a neighbor or driving a friend to an appointment ... and smiling the Lord said, "Welcome home my good and faithful servant." She was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. Mooney; a son, Frank Mooney; a daughter, Nell Marie Mooney; and three brothers.
