PAUL JONES
 	Paul Jones, 85, of Waldron died Monday, December 29, 1997 in a 
Waldron hospital. He was retired from Amaco Oil Co., a veteran of WWII,
and a member of Pilot Prairie Presbyterian Church.
	Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 
1997 in Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Duncan Cemetery in 
Waldron.
  	He is survived by his wife, Lena, of the home; one sister, Jean 
Jones, of San Diego, California; one brother, Raymond Jones, of La Mesa, 
California; several nieces and nephews.
  	Pallbearers will be Max Smith, Glen Dale Sparks, Ed Slaughterbeck, 
Jerrell Plummer, W.W. "Dick" Davis, and Don Smith.
	Honorary pallbearers were Farris Jones, Ezell Jones, Callie (Jones)
Hudgens and Willene (Jones) Hudgens.

  	Margie Lee Whitmire, 91, of Waldron, Arkansas died January 1, 1998 
in a Waldron nursing home. She was retired from Tyson Industries and was 
a member of United Methodist Church.
  	Funeral services were Saturday, January 3, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in 
Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Kirk Cemetery in Cauthron.
       Survivors include one sister, Chloe Rhyne, of Waldron and several 
nieces and nephews.
       Pallbearers were Steve Rhyne, Jimmy Rhyne, Mitch Rhyne, Danny 
Rhyne, Rhyne Goble and Kenny Johnston. Honorary pallbearers were Harold,

 	Ve Linda Susan (Sue) Boggess, 66, of Waldron died Friday, January 9,
1998 in her home. She was a member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church.
	Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12,1998 
in Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Cedar Creek Cemetery in

Boles. He was a truck driver.

       Survivors include two step-daughters: Rachael Watkins and Michelle

       Jimmy Ray Reed, 57, of Mansfield died Monday, January 12, 1998 in 
a local hospital. He was a factory worker for Universal Packaging.

       Survivors include one son, Brian Reed, of Washington State; one

   	James Franklin King, 88, of Mansfield died Friday, January 9 in his 
home. He was a farmer and a member of Mansfield Baptist Church.  He was 
preceded in death by parents Ira and Bertha (Barnard) King, three 
brothers, one son, Jerry, one granddaughter, Rosemary and one grandson, 
Mark.
  	Funeral service were at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13 in 
Mansfield Baptist Church with burial at Coop Prairie Cemetery in Mansfield.
     	Survivors include his wife, Rosa, of the home; two daughters and 
son-in-laws: Anita and Ray Hungerford, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Connie 
and James Houck, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; two sons and daughter-in-laws: 
James and Elizabeth King, of Mansfield and Bryan and Alinda King, of 
Houston, Texas; one daughter-in-law: Donna King, of Beverly, Kent.; two 
sisters: Mary Marble, of Norman, Oklahoma and Beulah Dalton, of

MRS.  BETTY RUTH  HENDRICK
   	Mrs. Betty Ruth Hendrick, of Mena,, died Tuesday, January 13, 1998 
at the Mena Medical Center.
  	She was born on September 11, 1922 in Charlotte, Texas  Her age 
being 75 years, four months and two days.
   	Mrs. Hendrick was the daughter of the late Rhim Love and the late 
Betty Stinson Love. She was united in marriage to Curtis Hendrick on May 
28, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas.
  	She made her home in Mena for the past six months moving from 
Waldron, was a school teacher, a member of the Eastern Star, and the First
Baptist Church of Waldron.
	Survivors include her husband, Curtis Hendrick, of Mena; one 
daughter, Jane Pate, of Mena; one son, Curtis Edward Hendrick, of Granite 
Bay, California; two sisters: Margaret Youngman, of Dale, Texas and Louise
Walker, of Gonzales, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by two sisters: Lucy Wheeler and Mary 
Newman.
  	Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16 in the
Calvary Baptist Church with Brother Terry Dwiggins officiating. Interment
will be in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Hall Funeral
Service of Mena.

	Elizabeth Daly (Betty) Piles, 98, of Waldron died Monday January 12,
1998 in her home. She was a member of Waldron First Baptist Church, former
owner/operator of Waldron Flower Shop, a retired real estate agent of 
Strout Realty, co-owner of Hughes Insurance Company, a member of Waldron 
B&PW, a lifetime member of P.T.A. and a former school teacher.
	Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15 in 
Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Duncan Cemetery in Waldron.
	Survivors include two daughters: Betty Lee Holter and Billye Rhea 
Dalton, both of Waldron; one adopted son, James Patrick McQuery, of 
Wichita, Kansas; three grandsons: Terrel Lee Robertson and Edwin Lee 
Holter, both of Waldron, and William Patrick Dalton, of Benton; two

	Bessie Elizabeth Essman, 81, of Waldron died Friday, February 6, 
1998 in a local nursing home. She was a retired Pinewood Nursing Home 
housekeeper and a member of the Unity Baptist Church. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Dee Essman, and a granddaughter, Anette Essman.
      Graveside service was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9,1998 at 
Duncan Cemetery in Waldron.
      Survivors include three daughters: Vera Artzer and Paula Piles, both
of Topeka, Kansas, and Marilyn Johnson, of Russellville; four sons: Gerald
Essman, of Waldron, Allan Essman, of Grantville, Kansas, Jim Essman, of 
Silver Lake, Kansas, and Dale Essman, of Wheaton, Kansas; one sister, Eula

DARLE CHARITY SPRIGG
Darle Charity Sprigg, 98, died Monday, January 26, 1998 at North 
Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado.
	Darle was born the youngest of eight children on August 28, 1899, 
in Red Oak, Iowa, to Albert Nathan and Luella (McGreer) Thatcher. When 
she was three months old, the family moved to Golden, Colorado. In 1915, 
she moved with her parents to Brush, Colorado.
	On July 10, 1918, she married S. Neal Sprigg in Denver, Colorado. In
1923, they returned to the Brush area where she resided until she moved to
Bonell Good Samaritan Center of Greeley in 1991.
     	Darle was a member of the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush, 
Colorado. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, Morgan County 
Republican Women, World War I Auxiliary, Harmony Social Club, Brush and 
Midway Extension Clubs, WCTU, and East Morgan County Hospital Auxiliary. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal, in 1978, a daughter, 
Eleanor M. in 1925; three brothers and four sisters.
	She is survived by two daughters: Betty J. Richardson, of Waldron 
and Lucille J. Schweers, of Greeley, Colorado; a son-in-law, Rex R. 
Schweers, Jr., of Greeley, Colorado; four grandsons: Edward D. Bretthauer,
of Stafford Virginia, Gary L. Bretthauer, of Ontario, California, Bruce A.
Schweers, of Greeley Colorado, and Rex R. Schweers III, of Aurora, 
Colorado; three granddaughters: Janice K. Rhoton of Littleton, Colorado,
Sharon R. Eberhard, of Greeley. Colorado, and Gayle L. Griggs of Arvada,
Colorado; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
     	Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at 
the Rankin Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Michael Hartwell. 
Interment was in the J. L. Brush Cemetery  in Brush, Colorado.
     	Contributions may be made to the Rankin Presbyterian Church of 
Brush, or the Bonell Good Samaritan Center of Greeley, in care of the Heer

     	Minnie Scantling, 87, of Bentonville, formerly of Waldron, died 
February 7, 1998, in a Bentonville hospital. She was Pentecostal.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February
11, 1998 at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at Lick 
Creek Cemetery in Booneville.
     	She is survived by four sons: Glen Scantling, of Waldron, Hoyt

Scantling, of Bentonville; five daughters: Eva Lou Hattabaugh, of

in a local nursing home. She was a retired furniture factory worker and a

Obituary 
J.B. WAGNER
	Mr. J.B. Wagner, of Mena, died Monday, February 9, 1998 in the Mena 
Medical Center.
 	He was born July 23, 1935 in Booth.  His age being 62 years, six 
months and 16 days.
   	Mr. Wagner was the son of the late Bud Wagner and the late Tinnie 
Mae Phillips Wagner. He was united in marriage to Eunice Whisenhunt on 
July 14, 1956 in Poteau, Oklahoma.
  	He made his home in Mena for the past 42 years.  He was a self-
employed cement contractor for 40 years, a member of the Oak Avenue Church
of Christ for 23 years, and was a member and former Chief of the Acorn 
Fire Department.
  	Survivors include his wife, Eunice Wagner, of Mena; two sons: Jimmy 
Wagner, of Mena, and Stanley Theron Wagner, of Oden; two daughters: Karen 
Ellison, of Acorn, and Lynette Shaw, of Wagner, Oklahoma; five brothers: 
Dewayne Wagner, of Texas, Wesley Wagner, of Waldron, Billy Eugene Wagner, 
of Benton, Waylon Wagner, of Waldron, and Ronnie Wagner, of Needmore; two 
sisters: Dorothy Evans, of Huntington, and Phyllis Lane, of Hackett; 14 
grandchildren and his mother-in-law, Ruth Whisenhunt, of Acorn.
     	Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14 
in the Northside Church of Christ with Rev. Garland Lipe and Rev. Drew 
Ratcliff officiating.  
Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery under the direction of 
Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
     	Pallbearers will be Wesley Wagner, Waylon Wagner, Bill Wagner, 
Jimmy Miner, Gerald Ward, and Butch Callahan.
    	Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Valentine, Ronnie Wagner and

        Jerry Lee Hattabaugh, 61, of Elm Park, Arkansas died Saturday, 
February 21,1998 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a dump truck driver, a 
Baptist and a retired Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army.
        Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 1998 
in Freedom Baptist Church with burial at Freedom Cemetery with military 
honors, near Waldron.
       Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home; one daughter, Paula 
Walker, of Fort Smith; three sons: Jerald Hattabaugh and Jerry Don

in a Waldron nursing home. She was a member of the Mulberry Missionary

 	Raymond Hunter, 53, of Waldron died Saturday, February 21, 1998 in 
his home.

MARY RUBY WHITE
  	Mrs. Mary Ruby White of Waldron, formerly of Mena, died Friday, 
February 20, 1998 in the Pinewood Nursing Home.
   	She was born December 13, 1907 in Dardanelle.  Her age being  90 
years, two months and seven days.
  	Mrs. White was the daughter of  the late James Ivey and the late 
Made Patterson Ivey. She was united in marriage to William Jack White on 
April 22, 1931 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Mr. White preceded her in death on 
May 28, 1982.
  	She spent most of her life in the Arkansas 0klahoma area. She did 
odd jobs in her life and worked as a cook in a well known college. She 
was best known as being best wife and mother, which was what she wanted. 
She raised five children, the first born, Wanda Lee, died at the age of 
five. Then she lost another child at birth. She loved her husband very 
much, was of the Baptist faith, raised large gardens and canned a lot, 
and babysat.
    	Survivors include four daughters: Laveina Carlee, of Hueytown, 
Alabama, Linda Elmore, of Mena, Darlene Taff and Deana McKinzie, both of 
Waldron; one daughter-in-law, Donna White, of Parsons, Kansas; 12 
grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
    	She was preceded in death by two sons Billy Jack White and Bobby Lee
White, and one great-grandchild, Christopher Wayne Elmore.
    	Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23 in 
the Oak Hill Cemetery in Kiowa, Oklahoma with Bro. Ricky Hunt officiating. 
Arrangements were under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.

VERNON TAFT BAUGH
    	Vernon Taft Baugh, 89, of Waldron died March 6, 1998 in a Waldron 
hospital. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church and active in 
church work along with civic organizations of the town. He was retired 
from Waldron High School, where he was principal and teacher for many 
years and was Scout Master of Troop 17 in Waldron for 23 years.
    	He was a graduate of Searcy High School, a graduate of the College 
of the Ozarks with high honors in 1931. He went on to the University of 
Arkansas at Fayetteville where he received his Masters degree. He 
furthered his education at the University of Columbia at Columbia, 
Missouri.
    	Mr. Baugh was an avid rose gardener and shared his roses with former 
pupils, local organizations, churches and friends of all kinds.
    	Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 1998 in 
Waldron First United Methodist Church with burial at Duncan Cemetery in 
Waldron.
    	Survivors include his wife, Inez; one sister, Margaret Dalton, of 
Little Rock; one brother, John R. Baugh, of North Little Rock; one niece, 
Judy Fox, of Plano, Texas; two nephews: John Baugh and Joe Bruce Dalton, 
both of North Little Rock.

MINNIE INEZ PRIEST
        Minnie Inez Priest, 92, of Waldron, died Monday, March 2, 1998 in 
Oregon City, Oregon. She was a member of the Waldron United Methodist 
Church, she was born to L.A. and Donna Murphree, February 27,1906 in 
Murphrees Valley near Birmingham, Alabama. The family moved to western 
Oklahoma in 1909, then in 1912 moved to Scott County, near Waldron where 
she had spent all of her adult life. She was actively engaged in the 
Methodist Church through the years as a Sunday school teacher, and through
the women's work of the church. She had served the church on District 
level.
   	Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 1998 in 
Waldron United Methodist Church with burial at Square Rock Cemetery in 
Waldron.
  	Survivors include one granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth Mazur, of Oregon 
City, Oregon; two great-grandchildren: Kelly Hatfield, of Vancouver, 
Washington and Kacy Mazur, Oregon City; one great-great-granddaughter,

Nursing Home. He was retired from the military in the Army and Marines.
