	Jo Ann Ashford, 63, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly 
of Waldron, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 in her home. She was 
co-owner of Kerwin's Hardware Store, and Treasurer of Sol Del Mar 
Homeowner's Association. She was a graduate of Southeastern Illinois 
University and a former special education teacher in Hartsville, South 
Carolina.
	Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5 in Waldron 
First United Methodist Church with burial at Duncan Cemetery in Waldron.
	Survivors include her husband, Kerwin Ashford; one daughter and 
son-in-law: Laralei and Fred Thomas, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; 
one son, Raymond E. Ashford, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; parents, 
Raymond and Mildred Rackley, of Waldron; one sister, Becky Gardner, of 
Crossett; one granddaughter, Samantha Ashford.
	Pallbearers were Dutch Bliss, Ben Thompson, Rick Jones, Randy 
Jones, Jason Jones, Gary Ashford, Richard Gardner and Jay Gardner.

MARY PAULINE BAUCUM
	Mary Pauline Baucum, 83, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., died Tuesday, 
March 30, 1999 at Sunrise Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born 
on August 11, 1915 in Taylor, Ark.
	She was the daughter of James Leonard Smith and Mary Frances 
Dotson Smith, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in 
death by two husbands, Torby Haynes and Dan Richard Baucum, Jr. She 
was a Jackson Methodist and a librarian.
	Services were at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3 in Bailey 
Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Old Shongaloo Cemetery.
	Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Gene and Billie 
Haynes, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn; three sisters: Vera Cherry, of Taylor, 
Ark., Josephine Theviault, of Terryville, Conn. And Cora Whitehead, of 
Taylor Ark; one granddaughter, Paige Hodnett and her husband, Stuart, 
of Somerville, Tenn; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Lane Hodnett, of

EDEZ TURNER COX
	Edez Turner Cox was born January 6, 1912 in Nola. She slipped 
from this life peaceably on March 25, 1999 at her residence in Dallas, 
Tex. where she had lived for over 55 years. She leaves a loving family 
who will forever cherish the many fond memories they have of "Mom," 
"Nana" an "Sis." These include her daughter, Lee Gillespie, of Dallas, 
Tex; granddaughter, Lee Rockway, of Dallas, Tex; sister, Bennie Lee 
Bruton, of Lake Tawakoni, Tex; two nieces, Hilda Thornton, of Katy, 
Tex. and Roe Wilson, of Houston, Tex. She leaves many friends in the 
Mayfair Unit of Monticello-West where she lived for three years.
	Funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29 at the 
Heritage Chapel. Mr. Randy Reagon was officiating minister. Entombment 
followed in the Hillcrest Mausoleum in Dallas, Tex.

WILLIAM LAVOY HORN
	William Lavoy Horn, 69, of Lawrence, Kansas, died Thursday, 
April 1, 1999 in his home. He was born on September 10, 1929 in Blue 
Ball to Loy Rubin Horn and Evelyn Z. (Garner) Horn. He grew up and 
attended schools in Blue Ball and Oklahoma City, Okla. and worked for 
Union Carbide in California and retired as Expediter in 1984. He then 
moved to Arizona and to Lawrence in 1998. Mr. Horn was a member of 
Primitive Baptist Church in California.
	Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Isham, of Lawrence, Kansas; 
one son, Kerry Horn, of Carson, Calif; one step-son, Michael Meditz, 
of Phoenix, Ariz; two daughters, Lesta Helms and Rita Grogan, both of 
Lawrence, Kansas; two step-daughters, Marie Gass, of Billings, Montana 
and Marilyn Meditz, of Pamona, Calif; two brothers, Billy D. Horn, of 
Greenwood and Donnie L. Horn, of Redondo Beach, Calif; eight 
grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 
three step-great-grandchildren.
	Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5 in 
Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

	Dorothy "Dot" Anna Muntz Espinel Lewellen, 54, of Waldron, a food 
packer for Tyson Foods for 13 years, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at her 
home.
	She was born August 6, 1944 in Jersey City, New Jersey to George 
and Mildred (Sidel) Muntz. She has lived in Waldron for the past eight 
years moving here from Wister. Dorothy was a member of the Catholic faith.
	She married Russell K. Lewellen on June 3, 1997 in Kokomo, Ind.
	Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21 
at the Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister with Reverend Fred Woodral and 
Reverend John Heimen officiating.
	Survivors include her husband, Russell Lewellen of the home; one 
son, George Esinel and his wife Cheri, of Wister; one step-son, 
Christopher Kent Lewellen, of North Little Rock; her father, George 
Muntz of Wister; one sister, Mildred Trautz of Oklahoma City, Okla; 
two grandchildren, George Michael and Lynsey Breanna Espinel, both of 
Wister; one aunt, Marilyn Muntz of Oceola, Calif; her mother-in-law,

HARRY RAYMOND WRIGHT
	Harry Raymond Wright, 85, of Mt. Lori Drive, Highlands, died 
Tuesday, February 23, 1999 in the Highland-Cashiers Hospital.
	He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Charles 
Nicholas and Helen Pauline Cabe Wright.
	He is survived by his wife, Sara N. Moore Wright. They had been 
married for 60 years on December 17, 1998. He was retired as regional 
forester for Timber Management for the Southeast Region of the United 
States Forest Service. He was former Mayor of Highlands, president of 
the Harry R. Wright Development Corporation and was a 1935 graduate of 
the North Carolina State University with honors. He was former treasurer 
of the Highlands Lions Club, president of the 1975 Centennial Commission 
and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Highlands.
	In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles 
Robert Wright of Highlands and David Preston Wright of Alexandria, Va; 
a daughter-in-law, Marlene Foster Wright of Deltona, Fla; a sister, 
Maxie Wright Duke of Walhalla, S.C; two brothers, Thomas Barak Wright 
of Clemson, S.C., and Vernon Ross Wilson of Belton, S.C; and two 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Anthony Wright.
	Funeral service was in First United Methodist Church in Highlands 
with the Rev. Carl Lindquist and the Rev. Ryan Seawright officiating. 
Burial was in the Highlands Memorial Park.
	Tommy Coffeen, Richard Melvin, Dominic Sanchez, Vernon Brown, 
Tom James and Harvey Downs were the pallbearers. Herb James, Bruce 
Bryant, Allan Marsh, Neville Bryson, Hank Alldrich, John Cleveland,

GEORGE J. MUNTZ
	George J. Muntz, 80, of Wister, Okla. passed away Tuesday, April 
20 at the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau. Mr. Muntz was born 
on February 3, 1919 in North Bergen, NJ to Victor and Margaret (Delsie) 
Muntz. Mr. Muntz was a member of the Catholic faith and a WWII veteran. 
He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2648, the 
American Legion Post 0305 and the AARP.
	Graveside service was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23 at the 
Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister with the Reverend Fred Woodrall 
officiating.
	He married Mildred Seidel in Union City, New Jersey on September 
7, 1940, she preceded him in death in 1985. He was also preceded in 
death by his parents and a daughter, Dorothy Lewellen, on April 18, 1999.
	Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Trautz, of Oklahoma City, 
Okla; two grandchildren: George Espinel and his wife Cheri, of Wister, 
Okla., and Mildred Owens of Oklahoma City, Okla; four great-grandchildren:
Michael and Marchelle Owens, both of Oklahoma City and George Matthew 
and Lynsey Breanna Espinel both of Wister, Okla; one son-in-law, Russell
Lewellen of Waldron.

Charlie Yandell and Charles Isham; a son, Allen Yandell; a daughter, 
Dorothy Barnett; a granddaughter, Carla Kozak; a great-grandson, Anthony 
Vaughn; her parents, two sisters and four brothers.

	Mrs. Gloria Odessa Gravens-Massey, 52, of Kewanna, Indiana, 
formerly of Danville, died Wednesday, April 28 at Pulaski Memorial 
Hospital in Winamac, Indiana. She was born October 22, 1946 in Blue 
Ball to the late Clifton and Leona Garner Millard. Mrs. Massey was a 
homemaker and mother and a member of the First Baptist Church in 
Danville. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Layton Cravens, 
a brother, James "Boy Blue" Millard, two sisters, Sandy Millard and 
Patsy Ann Millard, and a step-mother, Marie Millard.
	Survivors include her husband, Robert Dean Massey; one daughter, 
Patty Sue Cravens of Kewanna, Indiana; two sisters, Christine Branham 
of Belleville and Debbie Whala of Bluffton; her brother, John Quince 
Millard of Danville; a step-brother, Odis Grimes of Atkins; three step-
sisters: Melba Riley of Hector, Juanita Barnett of Waldron and Gail

WILMA W. SMITH McBRIDE
	Wilma W. Smith McBride, 56, of Conway, died Saturday, May 29, 
1999 in the University of Arkansas Medical Center. She was born on 
January 3, 1943 in Pine Bluff to A.E. Boyt Smith and the late Millard 
Vain Smith. She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff. She was a 
graduate of Watson Chapel High School. After high school, she attended 
Ouachita Baptist University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology 
and English, she then went to Arkansas State University where she 
received her Master's Degree. Ms. McBride has been a high school 
counselor and teacher most of her life to the present, including Fort 
Smith. She was a counselor at Waldron from 1989 to 1998. She enjoyed 
gardening and reading.
	Survivors include one son, Matthew McBride of Houston, Tex; one 
daughter Michelle McBride of San Francisco, Calif; mother, A.E. Boyt 
Smith of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Steve Smith of Conway and Mike Smith 
of Memphis, Tenn; a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in 
death by a sister, Cassandra Smith.

CHARLES (CHUCK) WALTERS
	Charles (Chuck) Walters, 72, of Cedar Creek Community died 
Saturday, June 5, 1999 in his home. He was a retired builder and 
school bus driver, a minister, president of Sonshine Fellowship 
International, a veteran of WWII, a member of the Living Word Training 
Center, a foster parent and avid gardener. He married Mary Lou Stafford 
on January 25, 1946 in Tampa, Florida.
	Funeral service was at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8 in Waldron 
Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Cedar 
Creek Community.
	Survivors include his wife, Lou Walters of the home; two 
daughters, Donna Hellman of Hillsboro, Oreg. And Terri Thompson of 
Redlands, Calif; three sons, Howard Walters of Westerville, Ohio, 
Mark Walters of South Jordan, Utah and Craig Walters of Lafayette, 
Oreg; one brother, Vernon Walters of Ridge Manor, Florida; 14 
grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
	Pallbearers were Howard Walters, Mark Walters, Craig Walters, 
Rodney Walters, Jr., Chris Walters and Kevin Walters.

	Bertha Alma Smallwood, 92, of Waldron died Thursday, May 27, 
1999 in a Waldron Nursing Home. She was a homemaker.
	Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29 in 
Jubilee Church with burial at Buffalo Cemetery in Boles.
	Survivors include one daughter, Marcille Blair of Waldron; 
one brother David Riley of Anaheim, Calif; nine grandchildren and 
three great-grandchildren.
	Pallbearers were Guy Bingham, Jim Waite, Pete Daffron, and 
Lenny Lott.

	Lula Louisa Canada, 93, of Bates, died Monday, June 7 in a 
local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Bates 
Pentecostal Church of God.
	Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 10 in Bates
Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Gibson Cemetery in Bates.
	Survivors include two sons: Guy Harberson of Bates and Tommy 
Canada of Bates; six grandchildren: Loren Harberson of Heavener, Okla., 
Tiffany Nix of Heavener, Okla., Tommy G. Canada of Russellville, Tony 
Canada of Bates, Tonnie Canada of Waldron and Tracy Canada of Winfield; 
seven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

	Arvil James "A.J." Carter, 20, died on June 4, 1999.
	Funeral service was on Wednesday, June 9 at 1:00 p.m. in George

	He leaves his daughter, Emily Atherton; his father, Joseph

Cody Carter, all of Independence, Missouri; his mother, Patricia 
Carter and one sister, Teresa Canada, both of Coco, Florida.

HETTIE (HETTY) CATES CRUMP
	Hettie (Hetty) Cates Crump, 97, of Tyler, Tex., formerly of 
Dumas, Ark., died Monday, June 7, 1999. She was 97 years, ten months 
and 26 days old. She was born on July 10, 1901 in Boles to Bob and 
Mollie Ward Cates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl 
Crump and a son, Sedric Crump.
	Funeral service was on Thursday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. in First 
Assembly of God Church with burial at Walnut Lake Cemetery in Dumas.
	Survivors include two sons: Bryce Crump and Bobby Crump, both 
of Monroe, Louisiana; three daughters: Lucille Guitierrez of Durant, 
Okla., Euva Scott of Tyler, Tex. and Doris Ross of Dumas; seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great 
grandchildren.
	Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God Church in Dumas.

1999 in his home. He was a retired forklift operator for Scott County 
Lumber Co. and Big Pine Lumber Co., a member of Jubilee Church and a 
veteran of the Korean Conflict.
	Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 in 
Jubilee Church with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Waldron.
	Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons: George Richard Smith 
of Waldron and George Wayne Smith of Mena; one adopted son, Richard Ray 
Smith of Waldron; one brother, Samuel D. Smith of San Gabriel, Calif;

Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired furniture upholsterer.

	Raymond Thomas Davis, 81, of Parks, died Friday, June 4, 1999 
in a local hospital. He was retired as a heavy machine operator for 
Scott County Road Department, and he was a veteran.

	Willis Michael (Mike) Gilliam, 54, of Marlin, Tex., formerly of 
Waldron, died Sunday, June 13 in his home. He was a prison warden for 
Corrections Corporation of America, 32nd Degree Mason, and a member 
and deacon of Marlin First Baptist Church.
	A Masonic graveside service was held on Friday, June 18 with 
burial at Hawkins Cemetery near Parks.
	Survivors include his wife, Sheila; one daughter, Amanda Blaine 
Gilliam of Marlin, Tex; one son, Clifford Warren Gilliam of Marlin, 
Tex; two aunts: Claudia Morgan of Waldron and Joyce Leslie of Fort 
Smith; one uncle, Richard McLain of Parks; several nieces, nephews 
and cousins.
	Pallbearers were Donny Meadow, Bernis Rogers, Gary Davis, Billy 
McPherson, Ted Welch and Don Ellis.
