NELLIE GERALDINE BARNETT
	Nellie Geraldine Barnett, 85, of Mansfield, died Jan. 7, in a 
Waldron hospital.
	She was the wife of the late evangelist H.B. Barnett, was a 
talented pianist and singer. She studied voice and piano at the Ottley 
Cranston School of Music in Kansas City, Missouri for 6 years. She 
studied bible at the Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She 
was an evangelistic singer and pianist and taught child evangelism for 
21 years. She was a member of the Parks Baptist Church where she was a 
Sunday School teacher.
	The body was cremated with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in 
Fort Smith under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
	Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Prock of Kansas City, 
Missouri, Joyce Avery of Waldron, Martha Go Strealy of New York, New 
York; one sister, Marjorie McClure of Kansas City, Missouri; two 
brothers, Wallace Henthorne of Edwards, Missouri, George Henthorne of 
Warrensburg, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two 
great-great grandchildren.

MISS MAUDIE RHEA DAVIS
	Miss Maudie Rhea Davis, 96, of Arkadelphia died Jan. 8. She was
born June 24, 1902 in Caddo Valley, Arkansas and was the daughter of
John H. and Sallie Ware Davis.
	Miss Davis was a retired School Teacher having taught in the
Waldron School District most of her teaching career and taught at
Ouachita Baptist University for 10 years before she retired. She
received her B.A. and Master's Degree in math from Henderson State
Teacher's College and was a Baptist.
	Survivors include her sister, Iona Sue Davis Pinkerton of El
Dorado, Arkansas; four nephews, John Davis of South Carolina, Douglas
Davis of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Pinkerton and Michael Pinkerton both
of El Dorado, Arkansas, one niece, Sue Elizabeth Costin of Poplar
Bluff, Missouri.
	Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Dubar officiating. Burial was in DeGray
Cemetery.

	Jerry Wayne Jones, 57, died Jan. 31, in his home. He was a
United States Air Force veteran of Viet Nam. Mr. Jones drove a truck
for Parker Henifen Truck Company for seventeen years. Mr. Jones was
also a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
	Funeral services was from 10 a.m. Feb. 2 at the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Finwick, with burial in Masonic Cemetery
in Abilene, under the direction of Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
	Survivors include his wife, Lil Jones of Anson; one son, Curtis
Jones of Midland; three daughters, Chandra Martinez, Sue Wilhoit and
Kathy Young all of Fort Worth; a step-father, Elmer Hestand of Merkel;
four sisters, Joyce Green of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Barbara Bonny of
Berea, Kentucky, Sherry Spencer and Brenda Blanton both of Waldron;
nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Oklahoma. He was a truck driver, an Army Veteran and a Baptist.

	Bobby Lee Cagle, 65, of Bates, Arkansas died Jan. [sic] 1, in 
his home. He was retired from the Ouachita Correctional Facility, a 
veteran of the Korean Conflict, served in the National Guard, Navy, 
and Air Force.
	He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie 
Cagle and a brother, Edgar Cagle.

	James Buford "Jamie" Moudy, Jr., 50, of Havana, died Monday, 
February 22. Mr. Moudy was born September 10, 1948 in Danville to the 
late James Buford "Boots" Moudy, Sr.
	Survivors include his mother, Marie Pledger Moudy, of Waldron; 
two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Clyde Simmons, of Lavaca 
and Carolyn and Bill Needham, of Waldron; nephew and wife, Arlen and 
Melissa Monday, of Greenwood; niece and husband, Lisa and Mark Smith, 
of Waldron; three great-nephews: Mathew Monday, of Greenwood, Stephen 
Smith and Caleb Smith, of Waldron.
	Services were on Thursday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the 
Assembly of God Church in Havana by Rev. E.O. Tackett officiating. 
Interment was in Havana Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.

	Gailen D. Buck, 60, of Castle Rock, Colorado, died Saturday, 
February 27, 1999 at Porter Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
	Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2 
at Kirk Hall in Castle Rock, Colorado.
	Born on January 7, 1939 in Eads, Colorado, he was the son of 
Clyde and Elsie (Kelley) Buck. He married Lola Marie Moore on October 8, 
1977 in Castle Rock. Gailen worked as a road supervisor for Douglas 
County. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, friends, traveling, 
especially to Branson, Missouri, to listen to country music, and 
bowling. Gailen moved to Castle Rock in 1972 then to Waldron from 
1979 to 1984 when he moved back to Castle Rock.
	Mr. Buck is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Buck; one 
son, Chris Buck; his brother, Robert Buck; father-in-law, Wayne "Bill" 
Moore.
	Mr. Buck is survived by his wife, Lola, of Castle Rock; his 
mother, Elsie Buck, of Pueblo West; his son, Kevin Buck, of Cheyene 
Wells; step daughters: Wendy (John) Lear, of Parker; Cindy (Robert) 
Shadd, of Astoria, Oregon and Charity Gilleylen, of Castle Rock; three

General Hospital at the age of 86 years.

JOE S. SPEAKS
	Joe S. Speaks, of Sheridan, was born April 23, 1925 in Waldron 
to the late Jess & Pearl Black Speaks.
	He died March 1, 1999 in Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock 
at the age of 73.
	Joe was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church, a retired sales 
rep. for American Tobacco Co. for 31 years, a 32nd degree Mason in 
Lodge #69, a WWII Army Infantry Veteran, he was P.O.W. two times, was 
wounded two times, received the Purple Heart Medal, the P.O.W. medal, 
the Bronze Star and Battle of the Bulge medals.
	Survivors include his wife, Jean Martin Speaks; one son and 
daughter-in-law, Larry and Paula Speaks, of Sheridan; one daughter, 
Marian Speaks Whitehead, of Pine Bluff; two brothers: Herman Speaks 
and Don Speaks, both of Waldron; one sister, Juanita Aymes, of Waldron; grandchildren: Sharon Speaks and Marian Marie Scallion; two great-
grandchildren.
	Funeral service was on Thursday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. in 
Meadowview Baptist Church near Sheridan with Rev. Steve Clevenger 
officiating. Burial followed at Center Campground Cemetery in Prague 
community. Memorials may be made to Meadowview Baptist Church.

	Gary Wayne Garrett, 43, of Waldron died Tuesday, March 9, 1999 
in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a boilermaker and a member of the 
International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, 
Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers, Local 69.
	Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 12 in Martin 
Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Hawkins Cemetery in Parks.
	Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of the home; two sons, 
Trenton Garrett and Brandon Garrett, of the home; three sisters, Helen 
Wilson, of Hot Springs, Pat Benefield, of Plainview and Rita Metcalf, 
of Waldron; two brothers, George Garrett, of Park Forest, Ill. and 
Jerry Garrett of Nola. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nobie 
Garrett.
	Pallbearers were Earl Wilson, Phillip Wilson, Glen Wilson, Bruce 
Patterson, Tommy Patterson, Jason Garrett, Travis Garrett, Lynn 
Patterson and Larry Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were members of

	Destanie Shyann Jones, 2,of Waldron, died March 10, 1999 in Little 
Rock. She was preceded in death by two great-grandfathers: Pete Page and 
Earl D. Thompson.

Bates Baptist Church with burial at Kirk Cemetery in Cauthron.
	Survivors include her parents, Brian and Catherine Jones, of

Waldron, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 in Evansville, Indiana. She was 
former owner/operator of Changes By Sarie hair salon and a member of 
the Waldron Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by one 
son, Payton.
	Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12 in Waldron 
Church of the Nazarene with burial at Birdsview Cemetery in Waldron.
	Survivors include her husband, Ron; one daughter, Abby Lou 
Edwards, of the home; three step-sons, Nick Stewart, of the home,

	Chester A. Rice, 79, of Lee's Summit, Missouri died on Monday, 
March 8, 1999 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
	Mr. Rice was born on September 23, 1919 in Waldron. He was a 
member of the Baptist Chuch. In 1971 he was the Worshipful Master of 
the Kaw Lodge #272 of Kansas City, Kansas.
	Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Fairy Rice; one son, 
Chet Rice, of Kansas City, Missouri; five daughters: Mary Ann Lococo 
and Nancie Spears, both of Independence, Missouri, Linda Stewart, of 
Rogers, Brenda Cundiff and Renee Juhn, both of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 
one sister, Vesta Taylor, of Shawnee, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 16 
great-grandchildren.

First Baptist Church with burial at Square Rock Cemetery in Waldron.
	Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Paige 
Bethel, of Waldron; two sisters, Mary Perkins and Normal Frizzell, both 
of Abbott; one brother, John Stewart, of Alma; two granddaughters, Tracy
Luttrell and Marisa Bethel-Canada, both of Waldron; one great-grandchild, 
Jessica Paige Luttrell.

	Thomas Andrew Reed, 64, of Waldron, died Friday, March 26, 1999 in 
his home. He was retired Chief Petty Officer for U.S. Navy, a member of 
Waldron Church of Christ, a veteran of Korean Conflict and Vietnam, and 
a former resident of Rockdale, Tex. He was the son of Arthur and Irene 
Reed.
	Funeral service was at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 30 in Waldron 
Church of Christ with burial at 2:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in 
Fort Smith.
	Survivors include two sisters: Ruth Davis, of Baton Rouge, 
Louisiana and Cleo Ashby, of Georgetown, Tex; several nieces and nephews.
	Pallbearers were Tommy Williams, Robert Wagner, Norel Stamps, Brad 
Stamps, Sam James and Rick Metcalf.

	Charles Paul Scantling, 45, of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, March 
24, 1999 in Fort Smith. He was a southern Baptist minister, a maintenance 
engineer for Danny Thomas Management Company, he served as past music 
director at Rock Creek Baptist Church in Mansfield and was a member of 
Spradling Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He was also an Army veteran.
	Funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 27 in Rock 
Creek Baptist Church in Mansfield with burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery 
in Boothe.
	Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Scantling of the home; one 
son, Charles Phillip Scantling, of the home; his parents, Rev. Charles 
and Lila Scantling of Waldron; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. 
Charles and Donna Van Pelt, of Fort Smith; one sister, Patricia Collins, 
of Mount Ida; one brother, Tony Scantling, of Greenwood.
