2001 in his home. He was a retired machinist and foreman for Potlach
Corp., a veteran of WWII, a member and former deacon of the Stuttgart
Southside Baptist Church and former member of the C.C.C.
	Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday, March 31, 2001 at
Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Parks Cemetery in Nola,
Arkansas.
	He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two sons, Walter Paul
Martin of Cabot, Arkansas and Tommy Lee Martin of Truman, Arkansas;
five sisters, Irene Monroe of Harvey, Lorene Mitchell of Clarksville,

	Velma Rhea Wagner, 86, of Waldron died Tuesday, March 27, 
2001 in a Waldron hospital. She was a retired furniture factory worker,
she attended Jubilee Church and she was the widow of Dale Wagner. She
was preceded in death by one daughter, Melba Mourton and one son, D.J.
Wagner.
	Funeral services were held at 10 am Thursday, March 29, 2001
at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Duncan Cemetery in Waldron.
	She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Slaughterbeck of
Waldron; one son, Billy Wayne Wagner of Waldron; one brother, W.J.
Jones of Waldron; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

	Raleigh Pat Frost, 89, of Parks, Arkansas died Monday, April 2,
2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a farmer and a member of Parks
Baptist Church.
	Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 10
am at the Parks Baptist Church with burial at Hawkins Cemetery in Parks
under the direction of Martin Funeral Home.
	He is survived by three sons, Pat Ray Frost of Parks, Joe Frost
of Austin, Texas and Bruce Frost of Como, Texas; 19 grandchildren and
one great-grandson.

JEANE WYKLE
	Jeane Wykle, 87, of Waldron died Saturday, March 31, 2001 in a
Fort Smith nursing home. She was a retired school teacher, having taught
in Hodgen and Poteau, Oklahoma schools and the American School in Japan.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 17
years.
	Funeral services were held at 10 am Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at
First Baptist Church in Waldron with burial at Heavener Memorial Park 
in Heavener, Oklahoma under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. She
is survived by one sister, Madge Whitfield of Waldron; one brother,
Ray Dunn of Benton, Arkansas; one niece, five nephews, several great-
nieces and one great-great nephew.
	Pallbearers were Bobby Bottoms, Wayne Bass, Derial Hullender,
Ralph Butler, Randy Butler and Terry Rice.

ANDREW DAVID "ANDY" CROSSETT
	Andrew David "Andy" Crossett, age 66, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas
died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little
Rock. He was born July 27, 1934 at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Earnest
Lee Crossett and Thelma McGuyer Crossett.
	He was reared and educated at Pine Bluff, and graduated from
Watson Chapel High School. He also attended the University of Arkansas
at Monticello.
	Mr. Crossett was the Jefferson County District Conservationist
for the Soil Conservation Service and retired in 1989 after 33 years of
service. He also owned and operated Andy's Land Leveling Instrument
Service for the past 13 years.
	He was an active member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist 
Church, where he had served as a past chairman of the Administrative
Board and a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. He enjoyed coaching
baseball, and was the former coach of the IP Supervisors team at Pine
Bluff National League, alone with Babe Ruth League teams.
	He was also a past member of the board of Pine Bluff Junior
Babe Ruth League. He was currently serving on the University of Arkansas
Foundation Board as UAM representative, and as a member of the University
of Arkansas at Monticello Alumni Board.
	Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Henry Crossett; two 
sons, David Crossett of Pine Bluff and Jon Crossett of West Helena; one
daughter, Andra Crossett LeNarz of White Hall; two brothers, Harry
Crossett of Monticello, AR and Richard "Buddy" Crossett of Waldron,
AR; one sister, Mamie Carter of Dardanelle, AR and six grandchildren.
	Funeral services were on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at 2:30 pm
at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church with Dr. Randall Reddin
and Rev. Jay Culpepper officiating. Burial was in Providence Cemetery
in Jefferson County by Charles E. Fuller Funeral Company.
	Memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs United Methodist

	Glen French, 78, of Washburn, Arkansas died Tuesday, March 27,
2001 in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was a retired bus driver for Greenwood
School, a disabled Navy veteran of World War II, a member and Deacon
of the Washburn Church of Christ, lifetime member of the Disabled
American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the
widower of Rosa French.
	Funeral service was at 10:00 am Friday, March 30, 2001 at
McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas with burial at
French Prairie Cemetery in Ione, AR under the direction of McConnell
Funeral Home of Greenwood, AR.
	He is survived by two daughters, Glenda Trammell of Washburn,
Arkansas and Nancy Gardner of Van Buren, Arkansas; two sons, Bill French
and John French both of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two sisters, Shirley
Jorene Epperson of Greenwood, Arkansas and Jacquiline Henson of Willows,
California; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

ROBERT EUGENE DAVIS
	Robert Eugene Davis died March 10, 2001 in El Cajon, California.
Born March 31, 1923 in Page, Oklahoma. Robert Eugene Davis grew up in
the communities of Parks, Cedar Creek and Keener. As a young man he
drove a log truck for Roy Nichols while working for the Cato River
Lumber Company in Forrester. After serving in World War II he moved to
California where he worked as a heavy equipment operator building
roads. After retiring from construction, he became a cattle rancher in
Campo, California.
	He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter Jeana Van Aken of
Yuma, Arizona; one step-son Michael Schneewind of El Centro, California;
two brothers, Bobby Joe of Reno, Nevada and Bill of northern California;
and two sisters, Eva Lee Hawkins and Geralding Hooper also of northern
California. He has three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He
is the uncle of Don Frost of Parks.

	John Lanning Woodhull III, 47, of Booneville, Arkansas died
Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a housing
contractor and a Pentecostal.
	Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001 at
Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield, Arkansas with burial at 
Barling Cemetery in Barling, Arkansas under the direction of Martin
Funeral Home of Mansfield.
	He is survived by one daughter, Aimee Gustafson of Alma,
Arkansas; one son, John L. Woodhull, IIII of Alma, Arkansas; his
mother, Bernice Woodhull of Booneville, AR; one brother, Wayne
Woodhull of Booneville, AR; one granddaughter, Maya Gustafson of
Alma, AR; and one niece, Vinita Meeks of Show Low, AZ.

GLADYS PLUMMER PASSES AWAY AT AGE 97

	Gladys Plummer (Doyle) born at Hon passed away March 22, 2001
on her 97th birthday, in Newellton, Louisiana, where she and her husband
Clyde Doyle moved in 1935 to work Will Poe's plantation. Clyde Doyle was
from the Doyle and Poe families of Scott County.
	Gladys was the first child of eleven children from the marriage
of Lester Plummer and Annie Mae Snodgrass. The family was living at her
birth in the house built in 1880 by her grandfather Leonard B. Plummer.
The 121 year old house is still occupied but the Log Cabin behind the
house, used as residence of Mr. Plummer while he was building the home.

	Clyde and Gladys Doyle owned and raised their eight children
and her brother Leon in "Winter Quarters." [Copied as written.] The house
was one of the few spared by General Grant prior to his attack on
Vicksburg. It was used as winter winter quarters by General Grant. The
house is now on the Historical Register of the U.S. Department of Interior.
	The Plummer families of Scott County are descendants of Francis
Plummer, who brought his family from England in 1635 and was one of the
original settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts. The family later moved to
the Colony of North Carolina; to North Georgia; and in 1870, following
the devastation of the Civil War, brothers Samuel and Alfred Berton
Plummer left Georgia with their families and purchased land in Scott
County near Winfield and Hon.
	A copy of the book "Colonial Plummer Families and their Plummer
Descendants, 1991" by Leonard Lowell Plummer is in the Public Library in
Waldron. Lowell, after the death of his parents was raised by his aunt
Estella Plummer and husband John White. They lived on an 80 acre farm
just across the railroad from Gary Plummer's restaurant.
	Paul Plummer of Hon is of the Samuel Plummer family and the
other Plummers of Scott County are of the Alfred Berton Plummer family.
These include Luie, Glen, Terry, Ronnie and Gary Plummer.
	Surviving brothers and sisters of Gladys are George Leon of
Tacoma, Washington; Ruby Mae of Little Rock, and Leonard Lowell of
Overland Park, Kansas.

JOE HUIE
	Joe R. Huie, 80, of Waldron died April 16, 2001 in Waldron. He
was a native of Scott County,  WWII veteran, and a member of the Waldron
United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Ouachita Wood
Carvers Association, Head Wrangler of Rasputin Mule Farm, Scout Leader of
Boy Scouts of America Troop 17, a Democrat and a good man.
	Mr. Huie is survived by his wife, Marjorie Bess; one brother, Jim;
one daughter, Cindy; one son, Dick; thirteen grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda
and a son, Joe Kelley.
	Commital service was held at 10 am Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at
Duncan Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm Wednesday at
the Waldron United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made
to the Duncan Cemetery Association fund, c/o Martin Funeral Home, PO Box

	Theo Clinton Byford, 74, of Waldron died Sunday, April 22, 2001
in a Waldron hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Byford and one sister,
Dean Morrison.
	Funeral services will be held at 10 am April 26, 2001 at Martin
Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Chant Cemetery in Y-City.
	He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons, Ricky W. Byford,

HENRY BROWN
	Henry H. "Bill" Brown, 78, of Mena passed away Sunday, April 22,
2001 in Mena. He was born March 13, 1923 in Ritz, Arkansas to the late
Georgia H. Brown and the late Audrey Gore Brown. He was united in 
marriage to Rheba Johnson. Mr. Brown served as a sergeant in the United
States Army Air Corps serving in the 10th Air Base Comm Det and a member
of the Flying Tigers during WWII. He was awarded three bronze stars for
the China Offensive, India Burma and Central Burman campaigns. He was
also awarded the China War Memorial Ribbon. He was in the 14th Air Force
Association.
	Mr. Brown worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a land surveyor
and park ranger for 30 years at Shady Lake. He was a member of Life Line,
Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery Board, and a member of the First Baptist
Church. He was a Forest Service Volunteer.
	He is survived by one son, Terry and his wife Angie Brown of Mena;
one daughter, Rebecca and her husband Kelly Davis of Hector; two sisters,
Winna Brown Tharp and Winona Brown Blalock both of Waldron; one brother,
Burnis Brown of Camden, Arkansas and 4 grandchildren, Denise, Tina,
Maddie and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife,
Rheba Johnson Brown.
	Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 1 pm at
the First Baptist Church with Brother Jeff Cheatham officiating. Interment
will be in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the 
Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
	Memorials may be made to the World War II Memorial.

TOM HILL
	Thomas J. Hill, Sr., 81, of Fayetteville, AR died Saturday, April
21, 2001 at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born November 2,
1919 at Braggs, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd and Nettie Hayes Hill.
	He retired from the University of Arkansas Housing Department in
1986 nd had worked for Woodruff's Laundry and Cleaners on Dickson Street
for many years. He was a graduate of Prairie Grove High School.
	He coached Babe Ruth, American Legion and semi-pro baseball teams
for thirteen years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Central
United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He was an avid
horseman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Hill.
	He is survived by one son Tommy Hill and his wife, Carolyn, of
Waldron, Arkansas; two daughters, Beverly K. Hill and Madeline Carol
Johnson both of Fayetteville, AR; one sister, Pauline Garrett and her
husband, Hank, of Viney Grove, AR; five grandsons; and two great-
grandchildren.
	Services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Central United
Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Wesley Hilliard officiating. Burial
was in Prairie Grove Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel.

	Lurie Effie Humphreys, 92, of Halley, Arkansas died Wednesday at
Dermott City Nursing Home in Dermott. She was born March 1, 1909 in
Yell County, AR to the late Thomas and Jennie Johnson Irons.
	She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Humphreys. Mrs.
Humphreys was a Baptist and a homemaker.
	She is survived by two sons, Clayton Humphreys of Fayetteville, NC
and Clem Humphreys of Halley, AR; one daughter, Katherine Dalsys of
Collins, AR; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great
grandchildren.
	Funeral service was at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 27th at Halley
Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Burke and Rev. George Waldrup officiating.
There was a graveside service at 3 p.m. Friday at Parks Cemetery in

	Etta V. Frazier, 83, of Waldron died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in her
home. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Scott County. She was
a member of the Waldron United Methodist Church. She was born July 14, 
1917 in Scott County to the late Charles and Mittie Cleaver Scantling.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Frazier.
	Funeral services were held at 10 am Saturday, May 5, 2001 at
the Waldron United Methodist Church with burial at Square Rock Cemetery

	Guthrie Perry Davis, age 90, of Mena passed away Monday, June 4, 2001
in Mena.
	He was born February 10, 1911 in Athens, Arkansas, to the late Henry
Davis and the late Rosie McMellon Davis. On June 10, 1960, he was united in
marriage to Morgan Price in Vandervoort, Arkansas. He served in the U.S.
Army during WWII. Mr. Davis was a farmer by profession. He was of the
Methodist faith.
	He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Sheperd of Mena, Arkansas and
Lorene Burney of Hughes Springs, Texas; two brothers, Lester Davis of Prairie
Grove, Arkansas and Doyne Davis of Vandervoort, Arkansas; two step-daughters,
Sharon Nichols of Waldron, Arkansas and Elizabeth Rye of Austin, Texas; four
step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
	He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Morgan Davis, his
sister Noles Dagenhart and his brothers Booker Davis and Clara Davis.
	Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 2 pm in the
Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Virgil Bell officiating.
Interment will follow in the Witherspoon Cemetery in Vandervoort under the

Before retiring, she raised chickens for Tyson Foods. She loved her organic
gardening.
	Survivors include her sister Natalie Worden of Gig Harbor, WA; brother,
