Powhatan Man Dies Friday
  C.W. Melton, 79 of Powhatan died Friday at 1:15 p.m. at Lawrence 
County Memorial Hospital at Walnut Ridge following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Melton was a native of Myrtle, Mo., but moved to Sedgwick at an 
early age.  He moved to Powhatan nine years ago. He was a retired 
farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.
  Survivors include his wife Mrs. Grace Melton, two sons Charles J. 
Melton of Route 2, Walnut Ridge and Jerry Melton of the Army at Fort 
Benning, Ga., eight daughters, Mrs. Pansy Smith of Tyronza, Mrs. Dovie 
Henson of Route 2, Walnut Ridge, Mrs. Ruth Fry of Bay, Mrs. Edith Parks 
of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Fern King of Canton, Ohio, and Wanda Kay Melton 
of the home,four step daughters, Mrs. Mildred Christopher of Hoxie, Mrs. 
Avo Monroe of Walnut Ridge, Mrs. Laverne Jones of Brookland and Mrs. 
Barbara Sue Oswald of Jonesboro, One brother, Elzie Melton of Route 3, 
Walnut Ridge, 40 Grandchildren and 19 Great-grandchildren.
  Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bryan
Funeral Home at Hoxie by Elder Alva Dunham and Jimmy Dunlap.
  Burial was in Old Military Cemetery at Sedgwick by Bryan.
  Pallbearers were Homer West, Harry Hilburn, Don Hardaway, Cleo Moody,
Clyde Hill, Jim Hill, Robert Bruce and Leo Neece.
