VIVIAN G. MORRISON

      Mrs. Vivian Glenolene (Garner) Morrison, 55 of Newark, died 
Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Batesville. She was born June 20, 1946 in 
Cord, the daughter of Charles and Velma (Hensley) Garner. She married 
Mr. Phillip Gary Morrison on May 12, 1967.
      Mrs. Morrison was a 1964 graduate of Newark High School. She 
retired in Dec. 2000 after working 23 years as a Deputy Assessor in the 
Independence County Tax Assessor's Office. She was a member of the First
Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, where she was nursery keeper for 20
years. Mrs. Morrison was a member of the Tate-Lynch Post #9577 V.F.W. 
Ladies Auxiliary of Newark. She enjoyed fishing, crafts, and bingo.
      She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Phillip Gary
Morrison of Newark and her mother, Velma (Hensley) Garner of Newark.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Missionary 
Baptist Church in Newark with Bro. Bill Goodwin and Dr. Robert B. 
Howerton officiating. Interment was in Hopewell Cemetery in Cord.
      Pallbearers were John Runsick, Jerry Powell, Bill Austin, Jimmy 
Austin, Steve Stout, and Jerry Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were Michael 
Powell and James Langston.

JAMES G. MYERS

      Mr. James G. Myers, 65 of Swifton, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 in 
Newport.
      Mr. Myers was born March 16, 1937 in Swifton, the son of Milton 
and Charlsia (Howard) Myers. He married Miss Glenda Sullivan on Dec. 
12, 1958.
      Mr. Myers was a clerk for Kroger Food Store and retired after 37 
years of service. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in 
Swifton. Mr. Myers enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed 
playing music, especially gospel music, and played the bass guitar at 
church.
      He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Myers and Cliddis 
Myers and three sisters, Mary Birmingham, Emilee Myers, and Ida Myers.
      Mr. Myers is survived by his wife of 43 years, Glenda (Sullivan) 
Myers of Swifton; one son, Kevin Michael Myers and wife Cathy of Elyria, 
Ohio; one daughter, Tonya Doran Gonzales, and husband Gil of 
Castroville, Texas; one brother, Earl Myers of Swifton; three sisters, 
Joline Dunkin of Swifton, Carleen Kidd of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Myerl 
Birmingham of Drasco; six grandchildren, Crystal Myers, Dusten Myers, 
Nathan Myers, Jaime Myers, Jordon Gonzales, and Corina Gonzales; and 
special cousin and friend, Paul Holder. 
      Funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swifton Pentecostal 
Church of God with Bro. Thomas Patterson officiating and Bro. David 
Decker assisting. Interment will be in Arnold Cemetery in Swifton.
      Pallbearers are William Roper, Michael Myers, Dusten Myers, Nathan 
Myers, Jordon Gonzales, and Greg Slagley. Honorary pallbearers are the 
men of the church.
      The Myers family would like to extend a special thank you to the 
CCU nurses and staff of Newport Hospital for the special care they 
provided for Mr. James Myers.

ELIZABETH ANNE REID

      Miss Elizabeth Anne Reid, 21 of Charlotte, N.C. died Saturday, 
June 1, 2002 due to injuries sustained in a boating accident at Lake 
Wylie, S.C.
      Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandparents, Etta Lee 
Madden Reid, Ruby Seay McAllister, and Alton C. McAllister.
      She was born Sept. 3, 1980 in Jonesboro, the daughter of Michael 
and Sheila McAllister Reid. She was a 1999 graduate of Providence High 
School where she was captain of the cheerleading squad. Elizabeth was a 
Charlotte Debutant. She was attending the University of North Carolina-
Charlotte. Elizabeth never met a stranger and was the center and 
organizer for all social events with her friends.
      Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Mike and Sheila Reid of 
Charlotte; one brother, Chris Reid and wife Crystal of Ft. Mill, S.C.; 
grandfather, Henry D. Reid of Newport, and a number of cousins, aunts, 
and uncles.
      A service to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Anne Reid was held at 
1 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 at Matthews United Methodist Church with Rev. 
Dickey McAllister and Pastor Mark Plummer officiating. Interment in 
Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
      Memorials may be made in remembrance of Elizabeth to the Diabetes 
Foundation or Breast Cancer Awareness.

MARY SMITH

      Mrs. Mary Smith, 76 of Beedeville, died Monday, June 3, 2002 in a 
Searcy hospital.

BETTY BROCK HATHCOCK THARP

      Mrs. Betty Tharp, 66 of Tuckerman, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 
St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
      She was born Feb. 27, 1936 in Decatur, Ala. and was a retired 
government employee.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Tharp and her, 
parents, C.G. Brock and Marion L. Dodd Brock.
      Mrs. Tharp was a longtime resident of Cross County. She worked for 
22 years as a grant writer for the Area Agency on Aging and moved to 
Tuckerman upon retirement in 1984. She was a part-time writer for the 
Jackson County newspaper and also worked as a florist. She was active in 
community projects in Cross County and in Tuckerman. She was a former 
member of the Central United Methodist Church in Hamlin and was 
presently a member of the Umsted Methodist Church in Tuckerman.
      Mrs. Tharp is survived by two sons, Rusty B. Hathcock and wife, 
Jackie and Steve and wife Cindy, all of Wynne; four grandchildren, 
Brock, Blake, Jessie and Ken, all of Wynne.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kernodle Funeral Chapel in 
Wynne with Revs. Ron and Jan Williams officiating. Interment was in 
Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne.
      The family requests memorials be sent to Central United Methodist 
Church, c/o Jolene Morris, 1301 E. L'Anguille Ave., Wynne, Ark., 72396.

ETHEL MAE WARD

      Mrs. Ethel Mae Ward, 73 of Amagon, died Friday, May 31, 2002 in 
Newport. She was born Sept. 3, 1928 in Amagon, the daughter of Martin 
and Ada (Reeves) Brumley.
      Mrs. Ward worked at Rose Skillcare Nursing Home until her 
retirement in 1998. She also worked at Harris Hospital and was a 
waitress for several years. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Amagon Church 
of Christ and was a member of the Senior Circle. She often had coffee 
with several friends at the Wal-Mart snack bar and enjoyed visiting the 
elderly, going to nursing homes, and taking people to church.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Ward; three 
brothers, Albert Brumley, Cecil Brumley, and Oscar Brumley; and two 
sisters, Nora Moore and Lelona Self.
      Mrs. Ward is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James 
Kimberling and wife, Minnie of Jonesboro; one brother, Charley Brumley 
of Amagon; one sister, Gladys Mayfield of Weiner and two grandchildren, 
Travis Kimberling and Adam Peek.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Jackson's Newport Funeral 
Home Chapel with Mr. Rufus Bradley officiating. Interment was in Balch-
Johnston Cemetery.

CLARENCE MONROE DILLINGER

      Mr. Clarence Monroe Dillinger, 60 of Harrisburg, died Monday, June 
3 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
      He was born June 4, 1941 in Viola, the son of Clarence Edgar 
Dillinger and Jewell (Taylor) Dillinger. He was a farmer and of the 
Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 
two brothers, Rudolph Dillinger and Tony Dillinger and three sisters, 
Loretta Gann, Rosie Dillinger, and Eula Mae Blake.
      Mr. Dillinger is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret 
Dillinger of the home; two sisters, Barbara Wess of Williford and Sharon 
Smith of Williford; two brothers, Eugene Anston of Poughkeepsie and 
Clayton Dillinger of Cave City; three sons, David Dillinger, Ronnie 
Dillinger, and Paul Dillinger, all of Harrisburg; two daughters, Brenda 
Dillinger and Bobbie Dillinger, both of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, 
Michael Dillinger, Kristin Dillinger, Cody Dillinger, Brandon Dillinger, 
and Brittany Dillinger.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson's harrisburg 
Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Bolivar Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Rickey Dillinger, Randy Gann, Perry Gann, Danny 
Dillinger, Randy Dillinger, and Jimmy Osterman.
      Honorary pallbearers were Larry Gann, Rick Huffman, Jason Doris,

      Mrs. Mary Smith, 76 of Beedeville, died Monday, June 3, 2002 in a

Catherine Jones of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, Noble Dean of 
McCrory, Sherman Dean of Newport, D.C. Dean of Springfield, Mo., and 
Clifton Dean of Kansas City, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
      Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. 
Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. 
Friday at Craft Funeral Home.

INEZ (BENNETT) TAPP

      Mrs. Inez (Bennett) Tapp, 80 of Weiner, died Monday, June 3, 2002 
at her home. Mrs. Tapp was born April 6, 1922 in Poinsett County, the 
daughter of Bryant and Nora Bennett.
      She was a homemaker and a member of the Waldenburg Baptist church. 
Mrs. Tapp enjoyed crafts, sewing, and fishing.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Tapp on Feb. 
26, 1990; one son, G. W. Tapp; five brothers, and seven sisters.
      Mrs. Tapp is survived by three sons, Ernest Tapp of Velvet Ridge, 
Allen Tapp of Dubach, La., and Larry Tapp of Conway; two daughters, 
Betty Worsham of Weiner, and Sue Jones of Tuckerman; 18 grandchildren, 
and 35 great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 1 p.m. Thursday at the Pitts Baptist Church 
with Bro. John Worsham, Jr. and Bro. John Worsham, Sr. officiating. 
Interment will be in Balch-Johnston Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were George Tapp, Clay Worsham, Greg Tapp, Shane Tapp, 
Skipper Jones, and Allen Tapp.

WILLIAM EARL BURTON

      Mr. William Earl Burton, 63 of Bradford, died June 5, 2002. He was 
born Oct. 23, 1938 in Paris, the son of Jesse and Charlotte Brady 
Burton. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one 
sister.
      Mr. Burton is survived by his wife Carolyn Breeden Burton of 
Bradford; one son, William Earl Burton, Jr. of Floral; two daughters, 
Lesa Erin Smith of Bradford and Amy rose Hixson of Maumelle; two 
grandchildren, Joshua William Burton and Raven Nicole Burton of Newport; 
three brothers, John F. Burton of Oregon, Jesse Feb Burton of Oklahoma, 
and Joe Burton of California; four sisters, Joyce Kelly and Vanetta 
Brannum, both of Arkansas, Dorothy Burton of Oklahoma and Mary Meeks of 
Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
      Funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday at Bradford Baptist Church 
with interment in Coffeyville Cemetery.

AZIE MAE ELLIS DURHAM

      Mrs. Azie Mae Ellis Durham, 66 of Newport, died Saturday, June 8, 
2002.
      She was born Dec. 23, 1935 in Macks. She was a housewife and a 
retired LPN. She attended school at Surrounded Hill Elementary and 
Newport Public School. She worked the past 14 years at Crestpark Nursing 
Home in Helena. She moved back to Newport in January 2002. She had been 
fighting cancer since 1995. She was baptized into the Church of Christ 
by Jimmy Allen at age 15 and attended Olyphant Church of Christ for 
several years.
      In 1987, she and her husband were baptized into the Baptist Church 
at Jacksonport by Bro. Billy Ed Morris. 
      She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lee and Ethel 
Adams Ellis, three brothers, Kenneth, Ernest, and Jesse Lee Ellis, Jr., 
one sister, Genevia Nell Ellis, who died at age three months in 1923.
      Mrs. Durham is survived by her husband of 49 years, Eugene Durham; 
two daughters, Bertha Roberson of Tampa. Fla.; Peggy Benish and husband 
Harry Benish, Jr. of Newport; one son, William Eugene Durham and wife 
Johnna of Fort Polk, La.; four granddaughters, Misty Riley of Jonesboro, 
Carolyn Roberson of Tampa, Fla., Sydney Anthony and Jordan Marie Durham 
of Fort Polk, La.; three grandsons, Mark Benish and Matt Benish of 
Newport, Mike Anthony of Fort Polk, La.; one great-great grandson Tommy 
Allen of Tampa, Fla., several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
      Funeral service was 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dillinger Chapel with 
Billy Ed Morris and Charles Ray officiating. Interment in Coffeyville 
Cemetery.

RONALD DENE HOOK

      Mr. Ronald Dene Hook, 52 of Springdale, died Saturday, June 8, 
2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.
      He was born Mar. 25, 1950 in Newport to Dene O. and Mary Carpenter 
Hook. He was a building supply salesman throughout his life. He was a 
member of the Home Builders Association, Sigma Chi, and attended the 
University of Arkansas where he played football for the Razorbacks. He 
was a member of First Baptist Church. He moved to Springdale nine years 
ago from Marion.
      Mr. Hook is survived by his wife, Kathy Hook of the home to whom 
he was married on Dec. 24, 1986; his mother, Mary Wilkerson of 
Springdale; one son, Rob Hook; one daughter, Katie Hook of the home; two 
brothers, John Wilkerson of Kansas City, Kan. and David Wilkerson of 
Tampa, Fla.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel with 
Rev. Charlie Foster officiating. Interment was 1 p.m. Wednesday at 
Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport.

      Mr. Claude D. Marshall of Newark died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 
Batesville.

OZZIE MCDONALD

      Mrs. Ozzie McDonald, 99 of Fisher, formerly of Harrisburg, died 
Friday, June 7, 2002 at the St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in 
Jonesboro.
      She was born July 26, 1902 in Caney County, Mo., the daughter of 
Oscar Richie and Cora Lee (Palmer) Richie. She was a homemaker and a 
member of the Fisher Church of Christ. 
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
husband, Allen McDonald, one infant son, one daughter, Inez Prator, four 
brothers, and four sisters.
      Mrs. McDonald is survived by two sons, Robert McDonald of Fisher, 
and A. R. McDonald of Arizona; one daughter, V.A. Ward of Houston, 
Texas; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five great-great 
grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Monday at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral 
Home Chapel with Mr. David Howard officiating. Interment was in Remmell-
McCall Cemetery in the Remmell Community.

HELEN MERRITT

      Mrs. Helen Merritt, 91 of Newport, died Friday, June 7, 2002 at 
Newport Hospital. 
      She was a member of the Grubbs First Baptist Church. She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Paul Merritt, her parents, John and 
Ilah Moore, three sisters, and two brothers.
      Mrs. Merritt is survived by one brother, Burl Moore of Mattawah, 
Mich.; one sister, Merle Lassiter of Flint, Mich.; a special niece, 
Wilma Thornton of Pennington, who dedicated the last 20 years as her 
caretaker; a special cousin, Billy Ivy of Newport; a special aunt Bonnie 
Williamson of Mt. Home; a special friend, Evelyn Britton, and many 
friends and family.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Monday at Grubbs First Baptist Church 
with interment in Ballews Chapel Cemetery.

MADGE PEARL SMITH

      Mrs. Madge Pearl Smith, 96 of Grubbs, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 
in Grubbs. She was born Sept. 21, 1905 in Tuckerman, the daughter of 
Buck and Sarah (Mitchell) Vandiever.
      Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist 
Church in Grubbs.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Elmo Smith; two 
sons, James Leon Smith, and Elmo Smith; three daughters, Betty Jo Smith, 
Armelda Stover, and Sarah Gentry; two sons-in-law, Oral Gentry and Don 
Stover, three brothers, three sisters, and two grandsons.
      Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Smith) Rogers and 
husband, Jimmy Dean of Grubbs; one daughter-in-law, Agness Smith of Horn 
Lake, Miss., 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and eight great-
great grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church 
in Grubbs with Bro. Larry Miles officiating. Interment was in Ballews 
Chapel Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Danny Gentry, Mike Gentry, Dave Stover, Mark

EDNA MARIE (CAUSEY) ELUMBAUGH [photo]

      Mrs. Edna Marie (Causey) Elumbaugh, 83, of Little Rock, formerly 
of Balch Community, died Monday, June 10, 2002 in Little Rock. She was 
born Sept. 19, 1918 at Amagon, the daughter of Jake and Mary (Balch) 
Causey.
      Mrs. Elumbaugh was a retired Illinois state employee and a dietary 
worker. She was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church and enjoyed 
gardening, reading and being with her family and friends.
      Mrs. Elumbaugh was preceded in death by her husband, Joe 
Elumbaugh; one daughter, Mary Jo McElyea; two brothers, John L. Causey 
and Leo A. Causey; and one sister, Gevena Jolly.
      She is survived by two sons, Bobby Jo Elumbaugh of Clifton, Ill. 
and Larry Keith Elumbaugh of Kankakee, Ill.; three daughters, Phyllis 
Jean Napier of Memphis, Tenn., Patricia Ann Rickett of Scott and Sandra 
Lynette Baker of Sabina, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren 
and one great-great-grandchild.
      Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson's Newport 
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sam Moore officiating. Interment will be 
in Balch-Johnston Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9 p.m.
      Pallbearers will be Roy McElyea, Steve McElyea, Chris Hale, Jody 
Elumbaugh, Chad Elumbaugh and Travis Baker.

LESLEY VERNARD HALL

      Lesley Vernard Hall, age 28 of Newport, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 
in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where 
he worked diligently as a Sunday School Superintendent. He realized his 
dream of becoming a truck driver in 2002, when he received his CDL 
license. He was a 1991 graduate of Newport High School and attended the 
University of Central Arkansas.
      He is survived by his fiance, Jimelle Stoves of Newport; two sons, 
Lesley Hall, Jr. and Raymond Davon Hall, both of Newport; his father, 
Tommy Hall of Newport; six brothers, Keith Andree Worsham and Tommy 
Hall, Jr., both of Little Rock, Eric Hall of Augusta, Richard Shawn 
Harris and Joseph Hall, both of Newport, and Ronnie Hall; five sisters, 
Temeka Barnett of St. Louis, Mo., Stephanie Alcorn of California, 
Yolanda Hall of Augusta, Laney Hall of Newport and Shun Corvette Hall of 
Little Rock; his grandmother, Elizabeth Worsham of Newport.
      Funeral services will be Saturday, June 15 at 1 p.m. at the First 
Baptist Church with Rev. Ira Crite officiating. Visitation will be 
Friday, June 14 from 4-6 p.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery 
in Auvergne. 
      Pallbearers will be Leslie Ratliff, John Hobbs, Tyrone Alcorn,

      Mr. Claud D. Marshall, 90, of Newark died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 
at Batesville. He was born April 16, 1912 at Newark, the son of Adrian 
C. and Minnie (Barber) Marshall.
      Mr. Marshall was a farmer and a cattleman. He was a deacon and a 
member of the First Missionary Baptist Church.
      Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Marshall 
and C.J. Marshall and one sister, Allie Lasater.
      He is survived by his wife, Beulah Marie (Burge) Marshall of 
Newark; two sons, Jerry Marshall of Little Rock and Larry Marshall of 
Newark; one daughter, Ruth Rudisill of Batesville; one brother, Clyde 
Marshall of Kettering, Ohio; two half-sisters, Dorothy McCormick of 
Oxnard, Calif. and Betty Durham of Oxnard, Calif.; five grandchildren, 
Glenn Rudisill, Randy Rudisill, Shane Marshall, Tanya Yeager and Lynn 
Burton and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Wade Yeager and Bradley 
Floyd.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Missionary 
Baptist Church in Newark with Bro. Jurl Mitchell and Bro. Bill Goodwin 
officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were James K. Marshall, Robert Marshall, Bud Brooks, 
Eugene Gardner, Donald Barber, Jim Barber, Lynn Barber, Homer Barber and 
Hale Wheery.

BOBBY G. BRADLEY
      
      Mr. Bobby G. Bradley, 63 of Newport, died Friday, June 14, 2002 in 
Newport. He was born in Grubbs on July 24, 1938 the son of George 
Nathaniel and Estelle (McGough) Bradley.
      He was a retired self-employed farmer and a U.S. Army veteran.
      Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sharon 
Kay Bradley.
      He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Louise Bradley of Newport; 
one son, Ricky Gene Bradley of Newport; one daughter, Karen Lee 
(Bradley) Jones of Texas; one brother, Jerry Wayne Bradley of Tuckerman; 
one sister, Betty Powell of Texas, and three grandsons, Chris, Max, and 
Jason.
      Graveside services was 2 p.m. Saturday at Gracelawn Cemetery in 
Tuckerman wih minister James Jones officiating.

HERBERT FIELDS

      Mr. Herbert Owen "Rabbit" Fields, 87 of Grubbs, died Sunday, June 
16, 2002 in Newport. He was born in Beebe on April 18, 1915, the son of 
John Fields and Irene (Ruby) Fields Graves. He married Miss Beatrice 
Loftin on Oct. 25, 1938.
      Mr. Fields was a self-employed farmer, and a member of the First 
Baptist Church of Grubbs, where he served as a deacon for many years. He 
was a World War II veteran, where he served with the U.S. Army military 
police. He enjoyed fishing and being with people.
      Mr. Fields was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin "Buddy" 
Fields.
      He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beatrice (Loftin) Fields 
of Grubbs; one son, Herbert L. "Sonny" Fields of Dayton, Ohio; one 
sister, Ruby Winebaugh and husband Roy of Flint, Mich, and one grandson, 
Michael D. Fields of Richmond, Ky.
      Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in 
Grubbs with Bro. Larry Miles and Bro. Glen Hurst officiating. Interment 
is in Ballews Chapel Cemetery.
      Pallbearers are Michael Loftin, Melvin Dean Loftin, Elton Loftin, 
Jeremy Stokes, Bob Stokes, and Garvin Dale Stokes. Honorary pallbearers

      Mrs. Bobbie Jean (Newman) Northcutt, 69 of Heber Springs, died 
Wednesday, June 12, 2002 in Little Rock. Mrs. Northcutt was born Aug. 
11, 1932 in Newport, the daughter of Homer and Georgia (Sutton) Newman.
      She was a waitress and cook for Stewart-Warner Automotive and was 
a member of the Roosevelt Missionary Baptist Church in Judsonia. Mrs. 
Northcutt enjoyed her grandchildren and crocheting.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Georgia 
(Sutton) Newman and one sister, Sandra Love.
      Mrs. Northcutt is survived by her husband, Presley Northcutt of 
Heber Springs; five sons, Michael Northcutt of Chicago, Ill., Richard 
Northcutt of Newport, James Northcutt of Chicago, Ill., Marcus Northcutt 
of Indianapolis, Ind., and John Northcutt of Chicago, Ill.; four 
daughters, Gerrie Gonazles of Chicago, Ill., Sherrie Krzeminski of 
Hollywood, Fla., Libby Stein of Chicago, Ill., and Diana Northcutt of 
Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Jimmy Newman of Paragould, William Newman 
of Missouri, Edwin Newman of Newport, and Glenn Newman of Dallas, Texas; 
three sisters, Betty Smith of Newport, Virginia Newman of Newport, and 
Donna Bowen of Newport; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

      Mrs. Euline Pearce, 84 of Wichita, Kan., died Thursday, June 13, 
2002 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan.

Wesley Self and Cora Bell Lindsey, and her husband, Ray Pearce.
      Mrs. Pearce is survived by one son, Robert Pearce, Loyal, Okla.; 
Linda Suiter of Tullahoma, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Swan of Wichita, 
Kan.; three grandchildren, Mary Eslick, Margie Jett, and Jesse Eslick; 
two great-grandchildren, Mia-Shea Eslick and Derek Northcutt.

FRED SWEATT

      Mr. Freddy Sweatt, 55 of Newport, died Friday, June 14, 2002 in 
Jonesboro. He was born April 9. 1947 in Newport, the son of Roy Lee 
Sweatt, Sr. and Berlene Dean (Passmore) Sweat Price.
      He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Sweatt attended Arkansas 
State University in Jonesboro and was a graduate of University of 
Central Arkansas in Conway.
      He was an avid tennis player and the undefeated lightweight boxing 
champion of Arkansas for several years.
      Mr. Sweatt was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Sweatt, 
Sr., and one brother, Jimmy "Jiggs" Sweatt.
      He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Berlene Dean 
(Passmore) Sweatt Price and William W. Price of Newport; one brother, 
Roy Lee Sweatt, Jr. of Tuckerman; one sister, Donna Jean French of 
Newport, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

EVELYNE OPAL OWEN

      Mrs. Evelyne Opal Owen, 78 of Weiner, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 
at Jonesboro. Mrs. Owen was born March 11, 1924 at Johnstown, the 
daughter of Mark and Rosa (Johnson) Kimberling. She was a homemaker and 
a member of the Midway Church of Christ.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Owen on May 
11, 1978; one son, Ralph Owen; three brothers, George Kimberling, Mark 
Kinberling, Jr., and James Monroe Kimberling; one sister, Effie 
Kimberling; one grandson, Jonathon Owen Walker; one great-grandson, 
Tyler James Brown, and one son-in-law, Carl Eugene Treece.
      Mrs. Owen is survived by four daughters, Diane Treece Howard and 
husband, David, of Amagon, Linda Walker and husband, Gary, of Weiner, 
Carol Bingham and husband, Mike, of Searcy, and Sharon Brown and 
husband, Ronald, of Mountain View; one stepdaughter, Glenda Wixson and 
husband, Johnny, of Jonesboro; one foster daughter, Shelia Reid and 
husband, Dennis, of Weiner; one foster son, James Leslie Kimberling and 
wife, Minnie, of Jonesboro; 25 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren, 
who called her the greatest Mamaw in the world; one brother, Aubrey E. 
Kimberling of Wentzville, Mo.; and one sister, Merlene Hockman of 
Warrenton, Mo.
      Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Midway Church of 
Christ with Mr. Larry McFadden, Mr. Llano Robinson, and Mr. David Howard 
officiating. Interment was in Balch-Johnston Cemetery.

      Mr. Ronald Hockaday, 43 of Newport, died Friday, June 21, 2002 in 
a Little Rock hospital. He was a 1977 graduate of Newport High School, 
attended Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center, and later attended ASU-
Newport for two years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 
Shoffner.
      Mr. Hockaday is survived by Mrs. Searcy Denton of Newport; one 
sister, Mirian Hockaday of Newport, and one brother, Bobby Oliver of 
Atlanta, Ga.
      Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 
with Rev. Arthur Kelly and Rev. T. W. Barnes officiating. Interment was

      Mr. Eldon Franklin Holmes, 73 of Thida, died Friday, June 21, 
2002. He was a disabled veteran and was preceded in death by his

one daughter, Sandra Holmes.
      Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Linda Shelley Holmes of 
Newport; five daughters, Melissa Smith of Bradford, Machelle Whitworth 
of Newport, Ashley Holmes of Newport, Brenda Ellis of Pennsylvania, and 
Debbie Holmes of Pennsylvania; one sister, Tidus Mann of Beedeville;

JOHN M. KOLLER

      Mr. John M. Koller, 83 of Tuckerman, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 in 
Newport. He was born Jan. 12, 1919 in Swifton, the son of Ben and Myrtle 
(Cornette) Koller.
      Mr. Koller was a retired mobile home finisher, and a member of the 
Tuckerman Family Worship Center, where he served as deacon. He was a 
World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Dunahay-Doss Post #9326 
V.F.W. of Tuckerman. Mr. Koller enjoyed watching baseball on television, 
participating in church activities, and spending time with his family 
and friends.
      Mr. Koller was preceded in death by two brothers, J. A. "Eugene" 
Koller, and Walter Lewis Koller; and one sister, Norine Huskey.
      He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Berniece (Lee) Koller of 
Tuckerman; one son, Ronald D. Koller and wife Lou of Jonesboro; one 
grandson, Wroten Shawn Koller and wife Robin of Tuckerman, and one 
great-grandchild, Peyton Koller.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Tuckerman Family Worship 
Center with Bro. Marty Russell officiating. Interment was in Gracelawn 
Cemetery in Tuckerman.

      Mrs. Julia Lacy Loftin, 80 of Horseshoe Lake, died Sunday, June 
23, 2002 at Baptist-East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
      She was born Oct. 2, 1921 in Columbus, Miss., the daughter of Gay 
Lacy, Sr., and Julia Cox Lacy. She was a retired bookkeeper, a member of 
the First United Methodist Church in West Memphis, Quota Club, and the 
American Legion Auxiliary.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
husband, J. L. Loftin and one brother, Gay Lacy, Jr.
      Mrs. Lacy is survived by two sons, Davis Loftin and his wife 
Karlene of West Memphis, and Jerry Loftin and his wife, Anita of 
Hernando, Miss.; one daughter, Becky Tucker and her husband Jerry of 
Lakeland, Tenn.; two nieces, Elaine Lacy Wooldridge and her husband 
Terry of Jacksonville, Fla., and Melinda Lacy of Dallas, Texas; one 
nephew, Gay Lacy III and his wife Sandra of Newport, two great-nieces; 
one great-nephew; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
      A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United 
Methodist Church in West Memphis with Gordon Donham and Chris Hemund 
officiating.
      Graveside service was 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walnut Grove Cemetery 
in Newport with Rev. Roger Glover officiating.

IDA ELLEN McGEE

      Mrs. Ida Ellen (Owens) McGee, 82 of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of 
Beedeville, died Thursday, June 20, 2002. She was born in Newport on 
Feb. 6, 1920, the daughter of Desha Owens and Lillie (McFadden) Owens.
      Mrs. McGee was retired from Harrison Hospital in Michigan, where 
she worked as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Kissimmee 
Church of Christ, and enjoyed reading and quilting.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse William "Bud" 
McGee; one sister, Joann Clanton, and three grandsons, Kenny Coleman, 
Benny Coleman, and John Coleman.
      Mrs. McGee is survived by one son, Raymond Coleman of McAllister, 
Okla.; two daughters, Joann Carver of Kissimmee, Fla., and Sandra Hall 
of Horn Lake, Miss.; one sister, Julia Baker of Horn Lake, Miss., six 
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, 
and several nieces and nephews.

Christ with Mr. Jack Carver officiating. Interment was in Eightmile

      Mrs. Patsy (Raines) Page, 59 of Beedeville, died Friday, June 21, 
2002 in Jonesboro.
      She was born in Oak Ridge, Tenn., the daughter of Ernest and Betty 
(Beatty) Raines.
      Mrs. Page was retired from American Greetings. She was a member of 
the Hoxie United Methodist church, and enjoyed spending time with her 
family and friends.
      Mrs. Page was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Betty 
(Beatty) Raines.
      She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Sonny Page of 
Beedeville; one son, Franklin Keith Page and wife Katie of Newport; one 
daughter, Sharon Anschultz and husband Homer Don of Fisher; one sister, 
Linda Hawk of Dardanelle, and four grandchildren, Justin Anschultz, 
Jennifer Anschultz, Jordan Anschultz, and Mason Page.

      She attended Arkansas State University-Newport where she was

Robert Reed, both of Newport; one brother, Eric Dinwiddie of Newport; 
two step-brothers, Cortez Roddy and Willie Roddy, both of Newport, and 
one step-sister, Tyronza Roddy of Newport.

her parents, James Noble Guynes and Mittie Allen; her husband, Elie 
Pippinger; one son, Paul Eugene Pippinger, two brothers, and one sister.
      Mrs. Pippinger is survived by one daughter, Paulette Stewart of 
Ward; two sisters, Altia Kelley of Tuckerman and Pauline Martin of Gepp; 
three grandchildren, Bryan Poe, Anthony Poe, and Lawanda Pippinger, and 
six great-grandchildren.

MARLEN CLARK

      Mr. Marlen Clark, 83 of Newport, died Monday, June 24, 2002.
      He was retired and an Army veteran and a member of the Holden 
Avenue Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, 
Benjamin Clark and Esther Parr; two brothers, James and Harlin Clark, 
and three sisters, Metrice Clark, Ellie Shaver, and Reba Walker.
      Mr. Clark is survived by one brother, Benny Clark of Newport.

MR. ROBERT LEON CORTEZ

      Mr. Robert Leon Cortez, 80 of Manhattan, Kan., died Wednesday, 
June 19, 2002 at his home after a long illness.
      Mr. Cortez was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 8, 1921 to 
George and Lillian Louvier Cortez. He was married to Alice Valiene 
Morrow on Nov. 20, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo.
      Mr. Cortez served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1940 through 
1945. He attended City College and the University of Southern California 
in Los Angeles. He was a claim manager for Allstate Insurance Company 
until he retired in 1974.
      At this time, Mr. Cortez and his wife moved to Cord where he was 
active in the community. He was employed by Lyon College in Batesville 
in various administrative positions. They moved to Batesville in 1984 
and once again became involved in community activities. To be closer to 
their daughter and grandchildren, they moved to Manhattan, Kan. in 1997.
      Mr. Cortez is survived by his wife, Alice (Morrow) Cortez of 
Manhattan, Kan.; one daughter, Diane Row and husband John of Manhattan, 
Kan.; and four grandchildren, Allison Row, Brandon Row, Kristen Row, and 
Michelle Row, all of Manhattan, Kan.
      Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at St. Paul's 
Episcopal Church in Batesville. Interment will be in Center Grove 
Cemetery in Cord-Charlotte.

Felicia Barnes, Brianna Barnes, Tonya Cheeks, Beverly Cheeks, all of 
Little Rock and Starlia Franklin of Sacramento, Calif., and three 
uncles, J. Friar and wife, Claudia of Amarillo, Texas, Pierre Ford and 
wife Debra of Amarillo, Texas, and Gary Cain and wife Rita of Amarillo, 
Texas.
      Graveside service was 11 a.m. Friday at Gum Grove Cemetery in 
Newport with Pastor Gwendolyn Bennett officiating.

JERRY ADISON TAYLOR

      Mr. Jerry Adison Taylor, 89 of the Pumpkin Bend Community near 
McCrory, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the Woodruff County Nursing Home 
where he was a resident for almost four years. He was a retired farmer 
and construction worker.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral 
Chapel in McCrory with interment in the Pumpkin Bend Cemetery.
